Release the Scottish Lockerbie Letters!

Come, I will conceal nothing from you: when I first read Gateway Pundit’s post that the Obama administration was in contact in June with the Scottish government over the Lockerbie bomber, I ended up shrugging.  The Boston Globe’s article suggested that AG Eric Holder was arguing against letting Abdel Baset al-Megrahi go, after all – which was what you’d want the American government to do.  And unless we wanted to start a war with Great Britain, or wreck relations with them utterly, there was a sharp upper limit to what the American government could do to stop the release.  Absent actual evidence that we helped facilitate the release, it’s not something to club the administration over.

On the other hand: if we didn’t help facilitate the release, then why are we putting a freeze on releasing our correspondence with the Scottish government?

The Scottish government told FOX News Tuesday that the U.S. government refuses to allow them to release details of any communication between Scotland and the U.S. over al-Megrahi’s release.

A source with the Scottish government, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the demand was made in a letter sent Tuesday from U.S. Embassy Chief of Mission Richard LeBaron.

This is a serious question: we already have at least one Senator countering (via AmSpec) with a threat of sanctions against Great Britain on this matter.  It’d be kind of helpful to be able to prove that the British & Scottish weren’t doing it because we told them privately that it was all right if they did.

I wonder how long it’s going to be before Websters has to amend it’s definition of the word Transparency.

November 2nd 2010. What are you doing today to improve your tomorrow?

I think

They’re collecting a bunch of words that need new definitions and going to do them all at once. We still have 3.4-ish years left, and I don’t think Webster’s wants to republish their work that often.

Right now I think transparency, corruption, racist and nazi are on the list for the next rewrite. Any I missed?

Here are some more

Hope, change, clear (as in “let me be clear”), always (as in “as I’ve always said”), astroturf, grassroots, terrorist, and bipartisanship.

Great ones!

Great additions to the list; Webster’s will have their hands full. I just happened to think of one more — torture. I mean, how can I forget how the left is redefining *that*….?

after having to hear how we were in Iraq because of oil for 8 years if the current administration gets caught in a scandal that involves a deal for oil would the irony be lost on anyone

I posted about this on another thread a couple of days ago.

I mean really folks, do you actually think that Gordon Brown would have let that guy go if Obama had said no? Why do you think we heard not a peep from Obama until the guy was already home?

This was an oil deal and Obama was right in the middle of it when he was over in Cairo. Follow the money on this one. It is crooked as it can be

Agreed: Since When Is NOBama In Favor Of Keeping Terrorists In Jail?

Ausonius (Diary) Wednesday, September 2nd at 12:33PM EST (link)

Should Megrahi not be freed, especially given the “controversial” nature of his conviction and the humanitarian consideration of his cancerous health?

Since when does the NObama administration protest mercy to a terrorist? After extending friendly hands to the terrorist supporting states of Iran, Syria, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, etc., we simply have to be skeptical!

I smell a capybara here!

Ausonius, Obama IS in favor of keeping terrorists in jail.

janis (Diary) Wednesday, September 2nd at 12:47PM EST (link)

You just forgot which group Obama actually considers to be terrorists. That would be us. And if any of us go to jail for exercising our first amendment rights, I’d bet my last near-worthless dollar that Obama wouldn’t lift a finger to spring us. So there, he’s all in favor of terrorists remaining in lock-up–as long as it’s the right kind of terrorist.

Amen! It Might Therefore Be Time

Blood For Oil

JLenardDetroit (Diary) Wednesday, September 2nd at 3:49PM EST (link)

But we’ll hear absolutely nothing like that usual chant from the Left in regard to this because, after all, a Terrorists with that Blood on his hands was let free (Dem’s weak on crime. Always! / Surrender Doctrine (Democrats ALWAYS cut/weaken U.S.Defense)), in part for an Oil deal…. I guess that will be fine by them!

I ended up shrugging?

gahazzah (Diary) Wednesday, September 2nd at 3:49PM EST (link)

That’s a sort of sad commentary unto itself. When people don’t care about a terrorist being released from prison it sort of takes the wind out of the 9/11 sails.

Or is there a quota on lives lost where we’re allowed to not care any longer?

** I’m not speaking of Moe here, I’m speaking of the news and reactions in general. I agree with Moe’s point, I just find it odd that with the 9/12 celebrations coming up this al-Megrahi issue will turn out to be another non-transparent footnote in the Obama administration.
