Background here, with commentary here and here – the short version is that the administration is in the process of rebranding 9/11 as a National Day of Service. Like one of Hot Air’s commenters, I note that 9/12 makes a good deal more thematic sense, but then everything that you really need to know about the actual intent can be seen, as usual, by some of the players involved:
A coalition including the unsavory left-wing pressure group Color of Change and about 60 far-left, environmentalist, labor, and corporate shakedown groups participated in the call. Groups on the call included: ACORN, AFL-CIO, Apollo Alliance, Community Action Partnership, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, 80 Million Strong for Young American Jobs, Friends of the Earth, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Mobilize.org, National Black Police Association, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, National Council of Negro Women, National Wildlife Federation, RainbowPUSH Coalition, Urban League, and Young Democrats of America.
Like Allahpundit over at HA, I have a somewhat less immediate reaction to this than either Michelle Malkin or Matthew Vadum, and it’s for this reason:
If the White House wants to try to institute at 52% the policy it hashed out at 53.3% and probably conceived of somewhere around 60%, it is welcome to do so: the five points or so of support that it will immediately lose from doing so will be very useful when it comes to fighting health care rationing and the cap-and-trade bill.

PS: Just because I didn’t go into much detail about what schemes like these reveal about the fundamental lack of self-confidence that the head groups of the Activist Left have about their own motivations and quote-unquote ‘ideals’ doesn’t mean that said lack isn’t blatantly obvious.

Having said that, 9/11 will always be a day of mourning and a day of reflection, regardless of what these extortionists try to make it. It is alarming that they feel they can rewrite history so soon, especially when we all remember it so well. If Bill Clinton is a rock star, then I guess to some reality will never mean anything.

We’ve shut down every single measure put in place in order to ensure it never happens again…and now we’re turning the Justice Department loose on the people we rely on to help us fight the war.
Finally, we’ve returned to the failed policy as pointed out by the 911 commission of making terrorism a legal issue rather than an act of war. I haven’t heard anyone point this out, but Scotland just proved top every one of us what happens when you turn matters of national security over to the judiciary!
We’re right back to where we started on 9/10. The only thing that’s left to do to set us up for the next one is for us to lose in Afganistan…and leave the terrorist to reconstitute and propagate, and regenerate their operations…and we’ll be sitting around wondering how we could have possibly ever allowed it to happen again!
Oh…and once Obama finishes his purge of the Justice and Intelligence communities by prosecuting those who were on the front lines after 9/11…good luck fining anyone willing to put a Democrat Noose around their necks in order to protect us after the next nightmare!
I meant to add we're already on our way to leaving Afganistan because Obama won't give commanders what they need

Then, year by year they tone down the recognition of the pain and horror and then they gradually substitute some alternative universe and say “this is what it is all about.”

I cried and screamed a few times watching all of it unfold. My Husband came running home from work a block away to see if I was OK. My phone rang off the hook,after a while I left it off the hook.I watched for 48 hours straight until I passed out and then tried not to watch but couldn’t stay out from in front of the set. Fast food was dinner and the laundry was sent out after 5 days.The whole family was glued to the set when they were home. All conversation,all phone calls,and every person I knew was hungry for updates they had missed during the day. We watched and we watched and we watched,no I will most certainly will never forget those images and those feelings for the rest of my life.
If the left thinks that memory will ever fade from my mind watching the towers literally collapse from floor to floor knowing that every single person left alive inside those buildings were definitely dead with little likelihood of finding any intact bodies on TV,do they think that those who lived it live will ever forget? After reading this yesterday, I immediately ordered an Honor and Remember flag; something I had been putting off due to cost. So, instead of buying next year’s swimsuit on clearance, I bought this flag. If it gets here in time, I will carry it at the 9/12 March in DC.
After 9/11, what other day of patriot appreciation, and American celebration will be rebranded in order to further erode our American culture? Wonder when Virginia will be required, as a condition of some government funding, to recall the 9/11 license plate on my car?

for a candidate who ran on “uniting what divides us”, the only way to explain this growing gap, this anger, this feeling of being betrayal by our leaders, is that it is orchestrated and deliberate.
