Unions fighting for 10 Billion dollar payoff in health care rationing bill.

Because Heaven forbid that they *pay* for what they did, of course.

Which, even by modern (read: “Democratic party”) standards, is a fairly big number:

$10B aimed at union retirees

WASHINGTON — Antilabor forces say it’s welfare for the UAW and Democrats’ union allies. Labor supporters say it falls short of what’s needed as tens of thousands of union members are pushed into early retirement as employers cut back health care coverage.

They’re both talking about a $10-billion provision tucked deep inside thousands of pages of health care overhaul bills that could help the UAW’s retiree health-care plan and other union-backed plans.

It would see the government — at least temporarily — pay 80 cents on the dollar to corporate and union insurance plans for claims between $15,000 and $90,000 for retirees age 55 to 64.

These would be the (generous) health care plans that the UAW essentially extorted out of the auto industry. Also note that this is in addition to the percentage of the auto industries already traded to labor unions in exchange for assumption of obligations stemming from those health care plans. And now the expectation is that the unions will be able to pass along the costs of early retirees to the government – which is to say, you.  Put another way: fully one percent of the health care rationing bill’s minimum final cost will go towards rewarding the UAW’s original health-care looting.

As Ed Morrissey notes: at least now you know why the unions have sent out their bully-boys.

I’d expound on my comment, but the ‘No Profanity’ requirement leaves me with my tongue tied.
I believe I can get away with saying the unions just irritate the living !$&%# out of me, though.

Are they actually "fighting" for it?

I kind of figured that when the SEIU/UAW/ACORN/etc. head honchos get together and write the bills for the Democrats to pass, they just write in whatever little goodies they want. Then the Dems have to do a little fighting with the GOP perhaps, but it seems pretty easy for the unions.

Buying Union Made

cosmicgnome (Diary) Monday, August 24th at 8:46PM EST (link)

Buying union made just puts money right into Democrats coffers. To state the obvious.
It is just government for the special interest groups. The unions ran the airline, steel, auto, and many more industries into the ground and now they are destroying liberal strongholds like Ca. and M I. that has given them strength to try to destroy the whole country.
A small percentage of the population has such an enormous influence. How can this be tolerated. Independently employed are subsidizing union goons in many ways not just in this instance it goes on and on how many miles of “stimulus” highway could be laid with the same funds if unions didn’t receive their “tribute”
I would like to here more comment from conservative candidates on the atrocious situation with the unions and White House. Maybe they are all in the same THUG local?

I knew it was in there, I just didn't know where

Well, I’m glad someone found it. You knew it had to be in there. Speaking of unions, not precisely on topic, but I managed to connect a couple of dots in my personal life yesterday. I have a brother-in-law, union thug (nah, just kidding, nice guy actually) who lives in IL and like a lot of these people, works only sporadically. If you were wondering why the roads were so crummy and the budget so busted, wonder no more. The guy stands by the side of the road with a SLOW sign. I was reliably informed yesterday that he gets paid — when he works– $27 a hour. Most of the time though, he’s supping at the unemployment trough. Great deal if you can get it I suppose. I guess the sad thing is, he doesn’t know he’s basically a parasite.

Cheers, derhoosier

It a sad time in this country when the voters are so easiely bought with a few promises.Obama lied to this whole country,if they didnt vote for him because they believed his lies then they voted for him because of the color of his skin.Well you got what you wanted when you voted, you got your president, you made history,do you like what you got.Folks this liberal President and this liberal Congress are allowing the Unions and other groups such as Acorn to write legislation and these liberals are insisting that our congressmen and women vote for it without even reading it.This is a fact ,its not something that i dreamed up.Every one of these congressmen and women that voted for this health care and this cap and trade bill without reading it commited treason. That also includes the President,How did they know that they were not voteing to take our right to vote or to hand our Country over to the United Nations.Folks i honestly believe that these liberals are trying to take our rights away, and they will take a lot of them if this health care bill is passed. Please call you congressman or wpman and tell them no to health care and cap and trade. Also ,he is starting to talk about overhauling social security. We cannot let this man do any more damage. Thank you

Kudos
