NBC rates ‘You’ve Got Talent’ over pleas for healthcare rationing.

I was more or less letting the White House’s efforts to send the left-Sphere out to shill its medical rationing program*slide – after all, having the President personally lie to you is a step up; usually you get that through intermediaries – but in the process of reading up on this Don Surber linked to this funny article on the network well running dry for the administration.  The White House wanted to schedule a last-minute press conference on health care:

CBS, which airs only repeats that evening, agreed early Monday to cover the conference.

But for NBC, Fox and ABC, the decision was tougher. During a summer that’s otherwise strewn with repeats, Wednesday includes all of their top-rated reality programs.

Fox declined outright to air the news conference. NBC and ABC fell into line late Monday after the White House shifted the event’s time from the previously announced 9 p.m. to the lesser-watched hour of 8 p.m.

The stakes were particularly high for NBC, which airs the most-watched show of the summer, “America’s Got Talent,” at 9 p.m. This week, the reality hit includes a heavily promoted interview with “Britain’s Got Talent” singing sensation Susan Boyle.

Let’s make this into a teachable moment.

You see, Mr. President: this is what people are talking about when they speak about ‘market solutions’ to problems.  There are three products that you can provide:

  • Your speech.
  • The inherent dignity and luster of your office.
  • Your forbearance in not making the networks’ lives miserable.

And you wished to use the networks’ valuable air time in order to provide this service.  The networks, looking over what is being offered, and contemplating their own product (the programming that would have used that air time) have made the following determinations:

  • CBS rated your products as being more valuable than theirs, in the specific case.  They freely accepted your offer.
  • Fox rated your products as being less valuable than theirs, in this specific case.  They freely rejected your offer.
  • NBC & ABC rated your products as being less valuable as some of theirs, and more valuable than other of theirs.  They therefore made a counter-offer, which you accepted.

So, now we know how much your products are actually worth: not as much as a first-run episode of a hit television show, but more than its reruns.  This is valuable feedback, and it will help you learn to improve your product in the future, so that you can provide more value.  So everybody wins, and nobody had to micromanage the results.  Isn’t that amazing? – And the best part is: allowing the market to come up with its own solution to problems works on just about everything.

You should try it, sometime.

*Don Surber called it ‘Obama releases his flying monkeys;’ only, it’s been a while since I watched The Wizard of Oz, but I’m pretty sure that the aforementioned winged avians simians [D'Oh! - ML] were just as happy to see the Wicked Witch of the West get watered down as everybody else was.

of that article: “This is the second time Fox has ruled against covering an Obama press conference, a move the network has made in the past when the event’s purpose seemed less than urgent.” Darn right. The only urgent thing about Obamacare is putting a stop to it.

I won’t be able to watch the thing tomorrow night. It’s the whistle that Barack makes with every single “s” in his speech. It slices through me just like some sort of samurai sword.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.”

Not silly at all, Sundayjack. Obama's voice

has been found to be responsible for a variety of physical maladies. In my case, the hair on the back of my neck stands at attention and won’t relax for at least 24 hours. For others, they break out in hives or find themselves howling at the moon–and sometimes the moon isn’t up yet.

The worst case of “Obama’s Curse” that I’ve heard of is that it invariably causes otherwise sensible dictators and thugs the world over to giggle like schoolgirls.

Nielsen’s turn out. I believe his viewership is decreasing. If he keeps this up, maybe the Networks will continue to balk.

About his voice, it grates on me so bad, that if I have the radio on and the half hour news comes on, I turn off the radio. There is almost always an Obama clip (Fox or CNN news). I just can’t stand his voice, his demeanor, his arrogance toward the rest of us.

Janis, I look forward to the day, we’ll be able to giggle about him. Keep me posted for when the time is right!

penguin, are you suggesting that we may be

in line to be sensible dictators and thugs? :-)

As to the day when we can giggle about Obama, that day will only be when we know that we have driven a stake through the plans he has for this country and that he cannot be taken seriously as a two-term candidate. I have a feeling that we won’t have to be notified. The howls and lamentations of the left will be all we need.

Janis, hadn't thought about that way...

I’m probably not much on the thuggery, but my family would tell you that I can be a “sensible dictator.” I tell you this political activism brings out all sorts of things about ourselves we may not have known!

Seriously, do you think we are going to defeat the left?

Yes, penguin, I do.

I don’t know how long it will take, nor do I know what it will look like. But to consider the alternative is unbearable. Watching the way the Zero’s numbers have steadily sunk since January and seeing what disarray his programs are in should give all of us hope that we can beat back these two terrible programs. If we can just delay the votes on these while more data on numbers comes out, then we have a good chance that enough people will be educated enough to be very alarmed.

But, penguin, the wild card here is that this bunch is not acting like normal politicians. They continue to push forward on bills that even their own supporters are starting to seriously question. In the past, this level of concern would have made them back off–way off. But Obama is the ultimate arrogant bully and he won’t let them walk away until they’ve worked his will. What I’m looking for is when there is a real and obvious breach that opens up between Obama and his henchmen in Congress. If he and Nance face off and throw down, it will be quite the spectacle for the rest of us. Obama may still think that his charm and dusky complexion are all he needs to win again, but Nance is not charming and she’s as white as they come–she needs voters to put her in her seat again. As do the rest of them.

We will know by the 2010 elections whether or not we have a chance again. Until then, we cannot stop, we cannot rest, we cannot take our eyes off the prize. And that prize is freedom.

Thanks janis, I'm going to get out the book on...

“How to deal with Bullies” maybe we’ll be able to write a chapter on “political bullies.”

BTW, I have Rush on right now and he is all over Obama today. From what he is saying, one could be optimistic, but the painful thrashing the left has been able to us and our country is frightening. I am not cowed, just scared. but as you said, the alternative is just too painful to contemplate.

We understand the difference between “hope” and reality, and We are not fooled.

I agree that 2010 is utmost

conteach (Diary) Tuesday, July 21st at 1:44PM EST (link)

If we cannot get the House or Senate turned n 2010 to some sort of more conservative base, we are lost.

The only way an impeachment can happen is by a majority of Senators making the request to the Supreme Court for Articles of Impeachment to be drawn up.

I believe this man should be impeached for being a domestic enemy for his efforts to undermine America in every corner of the world, particularly with our foreign enemies.

If they won’t move for impeachment, at least they will stand stronger against his initiatives if there is a more conservative core, especially in the Senate.

Perhaps you meant something less redundant, like “winged apes.” Though that could be exploited by Olbertard…

I almost didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to be snarky. I won’t be watching the One because doing so goes against every fiber of my being. I’ve never watched one of his ballyhooed “press conferences,” and I’m not about to start now.
