I see those that are making determining what is approved are “Energy Star” “Home Energy Rating System” and others like the IESNA. Basically if it is not approved you can’t use it. Sort of like seat belts for your car, they must be DOT approved. (According to Mass laws your state may vary) If you want to make an improvement and use the same seat belts as race car drivers use you can’t. This is despite the fact these seat belts used in race cars are approved by NASCAR to NHRA for crashes above 200MPH with most everyone walking away. Therefore if I salvage a thousand dollar inverter from work and make my dishwasher 60% more efficient I can’t because it is not approved and I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars to get it approved. I am stuck with a 5% or so, this is totally wrong! Why aren’t more people talking about this?
