I forgot that the 6th only goes slightly into Montgomery County.

Frankly the Democrats didn't expect Bartlett to be alone. The redistricting in 2000 was designed to take MD from being a 4-4 state by part to a 6-2 state. They crammed as many Republicans as they could into Districts 6 & 1.

For the 1st district, I think the Dems expected Gilcrist to be there for many years, and while Kratovil got some support before the primary, they didn't expect much more from him than they got from Corvin from 2006.

(liberal poster)

Everyone on both sides is getting whacked. I didn't vote for Perdue, but she inherited a big miss and we're getting killed by the economy as a whole.

There have been major cuts and that still isn't nearly enough, so they have to find a way to increase revenues as well. Dept is not an option (per the state constitution), so her hands are tied.

This story explains how state Dems are trying to make the numbers work via large (and painful) cuts, but ultimately they also have to raise taxes.

I live there and we have Roscoe Bartlett as our Representative. Must be odd for him to be the lone voice of reason.

Amazon caused an initial stink when NY started requiring that they collect sales taxes, but in the end Amazon caved in.
Guess Amazon wasn't willing to lose all the NY affiliates but they're willing to shut out NC.

Depends on where you are in the state as to just how dominated. Living in Western Maryland with Republicans representing you in both houses of the Legislature and in Congress feels slightly different than living in the People's Republic of Takoma Park or elsewhere in Montgomery County (For non marylanders, that's the county just north of DC. As best as I can tell, for most if not all of Montgomery County, there are *no* elected Republicans representing them at *any* level above the city.
