In Iran, the Mob stirs in its sleep.

This is not the Mob in Iran, awakened.

You can tell by the fact that the policemen are still alive at the end of the video.

But the Mob could be starting to wake up. The murder of Neda is, as Time notes, a potential triggering event to an increasing cycle of death, mourning, repression, and more death; and that will wake the Mob. And when it does, neither the police nor the swaggering brownshirts supporting the Iranian regime will survive their next encounter. At which point the Iranian military – which can survive the Mob – will have to decide whether or not they want to shoot down a lot of people.

It is my sincere, honest, and earnest suggestion to the current rulers of Iran that they spare their country a lot of grief and anguish and simply quit power now. I expect that they won’t, but I could be wrong.

this revolution will begin and end with the iranan oil workers.

If the protesters can force a general strike amongst oil workers it will be officially over for the leadership in Iran just like in 79.

If Iran cannot fill its oil contracts they will be forced to buy oil elsewhere to fill them. Once they run out of money they are done.

Not sure about that

Saddam stayed in power for years without selling more than a few barrels of oil. The real question is the Honecker question. When someone says “shoot”, will the army shoot?

big difference between iran and iraq

The last time this happened in Iran it reduced production by 6 million barrels per day.

In today’s world that would translate to ~$405,120,000 a day! If Iran is unable to fill an oil contract in house they have to buy the barrel from someone else to fill the contract. 405 million a day would bankrupt them quickly.

police/troops refusing to shoot

But it may take the pain from oil drying up to bring more crowds into the streets

(you can take that in more ways than one)

And having reached this point, if they lose out, they likely would be tried as Enemies of the Revolution. Hence they will hang on as long as they can unless they decide that a) they can’t prevail; and b) they can cut a deal to sav their skins in return for avoiding bloodshed. The window for such a deal is fast closing.

The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis
