Looking up Moe’s reference led me to the blog at vexedbermoothes.com which contains an interesting look at the incident from the island’s point of view.

Opinion seems divided as to whether this was a cagey power play on Brown’s part to crack open the rift between Bermuda and the UK and get the Bermudan independence he apparently wants very badly, or if he just got suckered. Or possibly both.
