Palau (Who?) to Take in 17 Uighurs
The obscure Pacific nation of Palau, one of the world’s youngest and tiniest countries, has agreed to take in the 17 Uighurs — Muslim Chinese — currently being held at Guantanamo.
President Johnson Toribiong announced in a statement to the Associated Press that Palau “agreed to accommodate the United States of America’s request to temporarily resettle in Palau up to 17 ethnic Uighur detainees.” He said their resettlement in Palau would be “subject to periodic review.”

The US government has pledged $200 million in aid to Palau, but a White House official denied that money, for development assistance, had anything to do with the Uighurs going to Palau.

So… the Palauans (?) get 200 million, the White House gets rid of the most awkward problematic cases standing in its way from keeping Gitmo open, and the Uighurs get sent to a tropical island getaway best known for a Survivor
And all it took was 200 million of your tax money. Isn’t that swell?

I have also read that China has promised not to torture the Uighurs should they return to China.If we are to believe that the Uighurs who received terrorist training from AQ are not dangerous. So its not exactly like this is a free sovereign nation making this choice, but rather another example of our mobster administration making Palau an offer they can’t refuse – especially with some hush money thrown in.
And what a wonderful way to remove these people from public sight and media attention (what’s the last story you saw aboutPalau), where before long they can emigrate to a more favorable locale for their anti-China campaign.
If I were China, I’d either immediately establish diplomatic relations and build an embassy or else I’d expand my staff if I have an embassy there already so that I could monitor all 17 of these guys. Certainly the U.S. has no interest in doing so.
