Obviously this man won’t apologize unless the network makes him. Which means we have to hit them in the pocketbook. Writing the sponsors and local affiliates is the best way to do this.

Here is the note I am sending to our local CBS affiliate. If you live in a state with strong sex-offender laws and have a local CBS affiliate that has sex offender updates practically every newscast, please feel free to copy and send to your own affiliated station. Just change the name of the state.

Are you aware that your station is actively promoting child sexual abuse?

That’s correct. David Letterman’s not-funny jokes about Governor Sarah Palin’s 15-year-old daughter being raped at Yankee Stadium – yes, that’s right – raped! That is what the state of Florida calls sex with a 15-year-old child.

Please consider the mixed-message that your station is sending to the community. Or do you consider it appropriate to suggest that the rape of some children is humorous?

Your news department routinely alerts the community to sex crimes involving adults and teens, crimes that by law mean the adult will remain of Florida’s sex offender registry for the rest of his/her life. The state of Florida takes this issue very seriously. We do not believe that your station should send mixed messages on this issue by approving of programming that makes light of child sexual abuse.

The letter needs to be short – and very blunt – to get the message across. Perhaps something along these lines might work?

Dear (Advertiser):

I am shocked to learn that your company supports the rape of young girls.

As an advertiser on the David Letterman show, you endorse his point of view; June 8th 2009 he “joked” that a female Governor of the United States is “slutty” and “joked” about her 14 year-old daughter being raped by an adult male baseball player.

I refuse to buy products from a company who supports such a vulgar, reprehensible attitude toward woman. As a result, I am emailing a copy of this letter to as many of my female friends, family, neighbors and co-workers as possible, calling for a national boycott of every single one of your products.

Shame on you.

I sent an e-mail via lyng link and Moe Lane had one on his site via one of his commenters that goes to comments on their shows.

Pointed out that the Letterman show is part of the Brand of CBS… Allowing him to advocate such vileness taints their brand. Also, noted that we were notifying CBS sponsors that they may want to put their advertising dollars elsewhere, because my money was going to go to their competitors.
