Polls close pretty soon; the results should come in pretty quickly (turnout was light). Still looking for a tracker.
Well, with 20% of the vote in it’s probably going to be Quigley, 73/20. But geez, that turnout’s awful: they’ll be lucky to break 10% of registered voters.
80% in, 73/19, that’s probably it, and they’ll barely break 10% (original primary turnout was 17%). Good luck, Representative Quigley: because I suspect that you’re going to get absolutely no help for the next eight months and hammered in next year’s primary.

One of the tipping point of the decline of nations
robmikpet (Diary) Tuesday, April 7th at 8:21PM EST (link)is not just political corruption but when the electorate ACCEPTS that corruption and inevitable and unchangeable.
Right now big city politics is almost all democrat and all corrupt.
Uh, when did people *stop* accepting big city corruption? (nt)

I think we are saying the same thing. I was not inferring that it ever stopped.
robmikpet (Diary) Tuesday, April 7th at 9:21PM EST (link)Although one could argue that the election and re-election of Guliani was an attampt to stop New York City corruption or at least governmental incompetence.
Not really
Neil Stevens (Diary) Tuesday, April 7th at 10:22PM EST (link)You’re pointing to this as a sign of a decline. I’m saying we’ve risen pretty dang far despite big city corruption.
I just push back at people trying to talk down America.

Which is of course your perogative, however
robmikpet (Diary) Wednesday, April 8th at 12:43AM EST (link)recognizing and confronting the weaknesses is also important. I am sure at one time two Romans were talking and one said “you know the barbarians are at the gates” to which the other replied “Rome has always had barbarian trouble no need to talk down the Roman Empire”
I would not equate my post as talking down America, nor would you think that reading my other posts and diary.
Besides you acknowledge in your post that there is big city corruption. By pointing this out are you talking down America? No you aren’t, then why am I for pointing out the same thing.
I'm not the one juxtaposing America with decline, sir
Neil Stevens (Diary) Wednesday, April 8th at 12:51AM EST (link)And there you go again comparing us with Rome at the decline.

robmikpet (Diary) Wednesday, April 8th at 1:36AM EST (link)My post is to point out the rot and STOP the decline.
OK I’ll use an American example. Two Americans were standing around and one says “I don’t like this whole slavery thing” to which the other responds “we have always had slavery don’t talk down America”
I’m trying to sound a clarion call to keep America great!
Here is a question for you, Is America at this moment the best the country has ever been in its entire history? Do you believe Obama’s policies are wrong for America and are putting America on the worng track? With bills passed recently by Congress and including future bills of cap and trade or socialized medicine will those NEGATIVELY impact America. Will the recently announced defense cuts weaken the military? Is there currently a recession (i.e. economic decline) How about the culture, movies, music, art?
If you answer yes to any of these questions then America AT THIS MOMENT is in decline. BUT DECLINE IS REVERSIBLE IF WE RECOGNIZE IT AND FIGHT BACK.
Fair enough
Neil Stevens (Diary) Wednesday, April 8th at 1:48AM EST (link)I’m glad you aren’t saying that decline is inevitable. People saying we can do better I can work with.

Neil thought you might find this interesting
robmikpet (Diary) Wednesday, April 8th at 2:09PM EST (link)From a Thomas Sowell’s NRO column about important books in his life:
The book that permanently made me a sadder — and, hopefully, wiser — man was Edward Gibbon’s The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. To follow one of the greatest civilizations of all time as it degenerated and fractured, even before being torn apart by its enemies, was especially painful in view of the parallels to what is happening in America in our own times.
The fall of the Roman Empire was not just a matter of changing rulers or political systems. It was the collapse of a whole civilization — the destruction of an economy, the breakdown of law and order, the disappearance of many educational institutions.
It has been estimated that a thousand years passed before the standard of living in Western Europe rose again to the level it had once had back in Roman times. How long would it take to recover from the collapse of Western civilization today — if we ever recovered?
