BETAMAX WOULD HAVE BEEN COOL.

Charmingly retro.

It was even popular in England: it was only because VHS won out in the US that it died out over there. In other words, a Betamax gift would have rocked, Iowahawk.

Sorry: it turns out that the stupid jokes that we all made about how the DVDs that Obama gave Brown were the wrong region were…

Yeah. Yeah, they were. How do we know? Because the Prime Minister actually sat down to watch ‘em, that’s how we know.

I never want to hear another single bloody word about how intellectually incurious George W Bush was.

EVER.

And the Brits think he is stupid

Our press is in so deep they have closed their eyes, covered their ears, and are yelling “la la la la la la”

I wonder if folks in the UK.........

………would consider this enough of an insult to re-establish The Crown over here…….. for about 30 seconds……… just so The Queen could give us back our country to Constitutional rule as opposed to what it’s become since 20 January.

One can dream, can’t one ? ;)

Cheers !

I would love to know if the staffer who put this gift together

is still employed.

this error would have merited the staffer a trip to the dungeons where he’d be suspended in chains – if her were lucky – or perhaps he’d have been fed to the alligators guarding the moat.

This guy, however, will probably be reassigned to oppo research against the Republicans rather than against the British.

if he/they were added to opposition research. I would donate directly to Obama if he were to do that.

Are multi-region players that rare across the pond?

Reaper0Bot0 (formerly Han_Pritcher) (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 6:28PM EST (link)

I mean, yeah it was a dumb move. Doesn’t mean this was some obscure cuneiform that our British cousins couldn’t read…

huh?

Doc Holliday (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 6:32PM EST (link)

yeah it is is a different country, they even use different money. You can’t even use your hair dryer without an adapter, zut alors!

ps, the Doc does not use a hair dryer.

Come on,

Wayne (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 6:39PM EST (link)

Han, I thought you could and would do better than that. It’s the point that this was a moronic, sophomoric gift, on par with, oh say, $14.95 toy helicopters from the White House gift shop or an Easy button with the wrong words translated on it or something. I would certainly hope the staffer who came up with the DVD’s would be gone, and the protocol officer too. And if it was the Obamunist, he should resign too, in disgrace.

Okay, Doc, I should NOT have to explain this...

Reaper0Bot0 (formerly Han_Pritcher) (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 7:49PM EST (link)

What part of “multi-region player” needs explanation? I guess I’m more of a geek than you are. No biggie. There are several (many, really) DVD players that can play more than one region, or all regions.

This was meant to be cheeky. I also admitted that this was “dumb.” Cheers!

Then apply for a State Department job, Han.

Moe Lane (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 7:55PM EST (link)

That’s only two-thirds’ snark, none of which is directed towards you personally.

I'm actually in the process of doing exactly that, Moe

Reaper0Bot0 (formerly Han_Pritcher) (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 8:02PM EST (link)

I’d forgotten how much fun it was the last time I bucked for FSO. They ask for a LOT of information, and this won’t be nearly the end of it if I make it. On a purely personal note, the fact that State is on a hiring kick may do me some good.

I’ve said it before (and I assume your post was in reference to that). I think I could do some good at State. Anywho, this begs a tech tangent.

I backed HD-DVD over Blu-ray because HD-DVD lacked region coding. I’ve imported a bunch of HD-DVD’s and never had a problem playing them. The region coding scheme is pure annoyance.

I am sure you are more of a geek Han

Doc Holliday (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 7:56PM EST (link)

:) and I did get your point, I can read. I think it is cool they have multi-region players now. I shop Amazon.co.UK once in a while and have always shied away from buying a DVD there, my cheapo player is not likely multi-region.

My response was cheeky, I typed one thing but was thinking another. What I was thinking was that it was rude to give dvd’s that REQUIRED a multi-region player. Why give someone a gift that might force them to buy a new dvd player? Why assume the PM has a multi-region player. Hell, why assume he has a dvd player….ok, I think this argument has been played out lol.

cheers mate :)

Molon Labe!

What's better than multi-region is selectable region

Finrod (Diary) Thursday, March 19th at 9:45PM EST (link)

Apparently there are some persnickety dvds that will ask about a wrong region on purpose and will refuse to play if the dvd player says that it’ll play that region. Selectable region dvd players can defeat even that.

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

this seems like NWO crap to me

Not only region, but FORMAT as well.

Paul_In_Houston Friday, March 20th at 4:39PM EST (link)

In addition to the different region, British TV uses a different format (PAL instead of our NTSC) using a different frequency and number of scan lines.

Some multi-region players incorporate a built-in converter, but many require a separate converter as well.

Whoever picked this idea of a gift probably didn’t have clue that other countries do NOT do everything the way we do.

If Obama and his staff weren’t liberal democrats, suggestions of “arrogance” would be raised.

Appointing tax cheats like it is going out of style.

These things add up and eventually it is no longer just a singular dumb move but rather a pattern of not paying attention to the details.

Being from Chicago, Obama actually gave Brown what he thought was an appropriate gift, and had one of his staffers throw it over the transom of Brown’s hotel room.

I bet no one’s looked in Brown’s freezer lately.

Obama was The One in 2008.
He’ll be a BIGGER one in 2012.

Next time I hear from my liberal friends...

Seriously, how do you screw that up, unless it’s intentional?

You have Liberal friends?
