Olberman is living proof that this (breathless) bunch of assassini does not exist. If they were a reality Olberman most likely would already have been hooded, handcuffed and transported to a secret place where he would be busy at this moment – scrubbing their latrines.

My instinct causes me to believe that Olberman doesn’t believe a word of this story himself. He’s just having fun. Muckraking. Tweaking the nose of a far better man than he. He feels safe. Secure. Fears no retribution.

Why are my instincts whispering this view into both my ears? Because if Olberman was a true believer in this cute little gasper, the color of the stripe down his back would surely have have zippered, then glued, then taped his mouth shut.

Olberman is only good for a belly laugh. Plus, if this group really did these things in the warpo universe of Olberman, he would be on the top of the list to be “taken out” and be prevented from reporting on this super, secret group. Come on Keith – just put them on double, secret probation and be done with it.

Just because we might not be surprised by what Mr Hersch is alleging – I mean – people who look at Dick Cheney would say, “Well yeah that sounds plausible if it isn’t actually true.” Should that make this revelation any less shocking and, if true, any less egregious and essentially terrifying to the nature of the democracy?

So if it is allegedly plausible but not true, it is still considered a shocking revelation. This is another twist on the “There are those who say that…” line of questioning from the press where rumor is considered fact and fact is considered irrelevant.

And on a different question, Fineman unwittingly describes the double standard for The One in his answer.

Don’t forget that Obama has not ruled out completely the use of some tactics like rendition. But I guarantee you that what he’s going to do is going to be about law and not secrecy – if he can avoid it.

So a reporter can GUARANTEE what Obama is thinking, and it’s therefore right for the press to give Obama a pass for anything he does even if the same action under Bush/Cheney was considered an international war crime.

Or two:
