And it’s an open question who’s happier about this: us, or them. Via Dan Riehl:
Toomey to challenge Specter again
Former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) will challenge Sen. Arlen Specter in a primary for the second straight cycle, according to Pennsylvania GOP sources.
The Allentown Morning Call reported Thursday that two friends of Toomey’s have said the Club for Growth chief has decided to enter the race.
Democrats would be happy, of course, because this means another primary fight – and if Toomey wins, he’ll not have an incumbent advantage in the general. Given the way that Menendez ran off his mouth about how he’s going to run the tables again in 2010, their own supporters would probably disown them if the Democrats didn’t dump money into the PA race. Meanwhile, Republican activists are happy because Specter’s independence from his own caucus just took a big hit. This poll suggests that PA Republicans aren’t happy with Specter’s vote on the recent debt bill, and he barely survived Toomey last time. If Toomey gets the nomination, then we get to run a complete slate of candidates in 2010 who didn’t vote for the Democrats’ debt bill.
So, who’s right to be happy?
Let’s just say that it’s not a political question at this point.

YAAAAAAAAAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that Toomey decided, I can spill the beans
Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Friday, March 6th at 10:24AM EST (link)In November I asked Pat about his political future, specifically if he would take on Specter again. He told me he was seriously considering running for the open spot of Govenor of PA. It is a huge sign of Specter’s current weakness that Pat has changed his mind.
I also asked him if a conservative can win in PA after what happened to Santorum. He believes that Santorum’s loss was self inflicted, and that a conservative can win there.
He also has no bitterness about Bush’s support for Specter. Rove explained the situation to him personally, and he understood the situation. He was less accepting of Santorum’s support for Specter, however.

Also, Pat's running for Senate will boost the Republicans' chances of regaining the governorship
civil truth (Diary) Friday, March 6th at 10:43AM EST (link)Pat’s running for the governor would have presaged a destructive primary between well qualified candidates while offering no credible conservative opponent to Arlen who could win both he primary and the general election. And required an expensive primary which the part could ill-afford against the money juggermaut the Democrats will throw at Pennsylvanis in 2010. And the Repblicans could easily have failed both offices.
I think we alll need to admire Pat’s willingness to do what is best for the cause of conservatism in Pennsylvania and putting the interests of the movement and the Republican party above his own ambitions, as the governorship is probably a substantially more desirable position in the 2010 cycle.
The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

Voters are dumb. we vote the same people in over and over again (both parties) when they’re all part of the same careerism/special interest pandering machine.
I like toomey, i hope he wins BUT WE NEED TERM LIMITS IF WASHINGTON WILL EVER CHANGE.
