Scott Murphy (D-NY) thinks the military is racist and sexist because (a) they follow a law passed by Congress stating that women cannot serve in combat, and (b) because a Racist group of pigment-based-discriminating Congressmen says so?

There’s a reason I think so poorly of idiot, head-stuffed-with-fluff, self-important students (and adult Liberals, which are just an older version of the same).

I think that Jim Tedisco should win this race by 12 or so percentage points.

There’s still some military in the area (active and reserve) although the numbers have gone down over the years. Plenty of retired military though. The Dems only got the seat because the Republican incumbent screwed up. Me thinks Tedisco has a good shot.

There is a serious and growing disconnect between the military and the rest of the citizenry/civilian public.

Laughing_wolf was asking for user input on this topic and one post to me stood out as very true; the basic premise of disdain for the military resides in the fact that (most) people do not know what the military does.

One way to bridge divides between people is to build empathy. To do that you could take any civilian who is concerned about the divide between themselves and the military and put him or her in a military environment — a base, a troop transport, the E-ring, or my kitchen.

Then, you could hand him a backpack full of rocks, loaded so the load is unbalanced. Make him walk in endless circles in a hot room. Start shooting at him. Even if wounded, make him rescue twenty children off a burning loft, one by one, while also carrying the backpack. Then, make him give each kid first aid and a beanie baby. Force him to then stand silently while the parents berate him for bruising their kid during the rescue. At the end, make him face the flag, smile and salute.

The civilian military divide is further propagated by the “we support our troops but not the war”…It’s a psychological denial mechanism that helps people feel better about things they have no control over. And the closest and most tangible representation of this imperfect world which was NOT promised on reality TV is the American GI.

I can only hope that that somewhere Morgan Freemans’ words have hit a chord with people:

They make men who lay at home abed question their own manhood. Whether the soldier, the ultimate warrior, or the man or woman who has their name on the door and take responsibility for it, the looters and moochers really, really don’t like to be around warriors, don’t like even to acknowledge their existence.
