Blago hit up Burris for cash
EXCLUSIVE | In his third sworn version of events, senator confirms pitch for donationsFormer Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s brother solicited U.S. Sen. Roland Burris for up to $10,000 in campaign cash before Blagojevich named Burris to the coveted post — something Burris initially failed to disclose under oath before an Illinois House impeachment panel, records and interviews show.
Burris (D-Ill.) acknowledges being hit up for the money in a new affidavit he has sent to the head of the House committee that recommended Blagojevich be removed from office.
As Ed Morrissey notes, it’s impossible to believe that Burris “forgot” that the brother of the Governor hit him up twice for money. It is possible to believe that Burris suddenly found out that he might be on an FBI tape or two – something suggested by the Sun-Times article – which would explain why we’re on v.3.0 of the official How I Got My Senate Seat narrative by the junior Senator from Illinois. I can’t wait for v.4.0, particularly if it’s part of the larger narrative of How Every Politician In Illinois Went To Jail.
By the way: Harry Reid? Yeah, this is why people do that entire “stick to your guns” thing. Because right now the only thing you’ve done by seating this guy is do our 2010 campaign ads for us. Whether or not Burris lasts that long.

(They actually broke the story). The tradition of corruption here is long and mighty. Unfortunately, the statewide GOP is more than was deep in this mess too, what with Big Bob Kjellander, Bill Cellini (Sr.), etc.. The best we could do was put up a Pro-Choice, anti-family candidate for governor. Our newly elected State Senate minority leader is pro-choice. The fact that Burris is mostly likely a liar (strong term, I know), does not mean the Gop in Illinois can capitalize. The party here is in shambles.

Brian Hibbert (Diary) Sunday, February 15th at 8:31AM EST (link)But this event is what we’re going to use to pick up the pieces and put a strong conservative oriented party back together (at least downstate). I am working on it. I hope you will too. If you haven’t already, contact your local county Republican party and volunteer. If there are any empty precinct committeeman slots, ask to be appointed to one. Then get out and knock doors. Go meet the people in your precinct and talk to them. If they’re conservatives, put them to work. If they’re moderates or independents find out what they believe in and ease them towards conservative ideology (don’t push, ease), if they’re Democrats find out why. I’ve often found that Democrats vote that way due to family tradition, but that their values are often VERY conservative. It’s hard to get these people to actually vote Republican, but just keep letting them know that their party has left them and that the Republicans share their values.
We have to put the party back together so we can take back this Senate seat and take back the governorship and take back our country. And it all starts in your precinct.

When you consider Reid’s record, and the Democrat history with perjury. Burris isn’t really doing anything extraordinary for them.
Oh yeah, the AP report on this refuses to mention Burris’ party affiliation. Surprise, Surprise.

Roland Burris (D-Ill.) omitting under oath that he was solicited for Blagojevich campaign cash before his appointment. He also did not disclose under oath to the Illinois House impeachment committee last month names of Blagojevich associates who he talked to about getting the appointment.
Burris also failed to provide me with a straight answer when I asked him at a Jan. 7 press conference in Washington about how he was trying to get then Gov. Blagojevich to appoint him to the seat vacated by President Obama. “How were you putting yourself in play? Who were you talking to specifically?”

“The disclosure reflects a major omission from Burris’ testimony in January when an Illinois House impeachment committee specifically asked if he had ever spoken to Robert Blagojevich or other aides to the now-deposed governor about the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama.’
Robert Blagojevich’s attorney said his client believes one of the conversations was recorded by the FBI.
“Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada also said he was reviewing the disclosure, the latest twist for Senate Democrats in Washington who only consented to seat Burris on the condition that there were no “pay to play” promises exchanged in the appointment.”

They also reported a comment from him that he had “done nothing wrong and that Fitzgerald hadn’t mentioned him.” Sort of like O.J. was innocent and that was why he led the police on that slow motion chase while threatening to commit suicide.
And now I suppose Robert Blago will be taking his free time to look for the real “pay to play” suspects.

Not only has he come clean about having 3 conversations with the former gov’s brother, he admitted last night to reporters that he actually made calls to attempt to secure $10-15K in donations for the former gov.. Those attempts were apparently unsuccessful. Senator Reid: do your duty and convene hearings on Senator Burris. Do not wait for Illinois to try and “reverse the Chicago river” and kill one of their own. Two miracles in Illinois is just NOT in the offing.
