I just did some back-of-the-spreadsheet numbers using the 2000 and 2008 Census Bureau estimates, and that is the projected difference between South Carolina picking up a House seat/Electoral College vote and Oregon picking up a House seat/Electoral College vote. Shockingly (at least in the Louis Renault sense), South Carolina, and thus the Republicans, were in the drivers’ seat prior to the change, and now Oregon and the Democrats are.

Maybe he can convince courts to use census data for redistricting, but it will be clear to all that the emperor has no clothes to people who actually use this data for things in the real world. Too many people do to much math and research with census data. Too many projections of population loss would be amiss. It would be clear to all that something was totally wrong. Maybe he can get a left leaning court appointee to sign off on say Michigan not having population loss but to everyone else it would be obvious that the books had been cooked. This still scares the hell out of me that he would try something like this. This is a bald faced attempt to hold onto house seats that would be moving to the south from places like CA, NY, MI, PA.

Let’s be clear about the incentives to “cook” the Census. Why is it worth BHO’s time to interfere?

First, by overstating minorities, homeless, (illegal) immigrants, etc. BHO ensures that disproportionate federal grant funds continue to flow to Dem strongholds on the coasts, in the northeast and the upper midwest. Many of the most important federal dollars are allocated by population, or by targeted subgroups within the overall population.

Second, by overstating the population in the northeast and upper midwest — mostly blue states, as we know — BHO might forestall the loss of Congressional seats in the redistricting that follows each decennial Census. Without BHO’s probable fraud, seats would almost certainly be lost in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York…and gained in Texas, Arizona or other red states.

The census is about representatives but also TAX $$$!!!

This is exactly why acorn is and will continue to be an issue.. The constitution states the census bureau will be overseen by the commerce dept.

They will use ACORN members wherever possible to conduct the census. I’d doubt that they can mess this up, statistically it would be far too easy to spot. Scary as hell that the Obama administration wants to control this.

The census is an institution enshrined in the constitution. On the plus side, if they mess this up it will be easy to spot the differences and will be a HUGE embarrassment.
