If you’re waiting for a resolution on the debt bill…

…get some sleep; it’s not happening tonight. Right now, as best as we can figure, they’ve got Collins and Specter – they keep saying Snowe, but they don’t actually have her locked down – which is why they’re bringing up Kennedy from what is essentially his deathbed.

Let me be honest with you: I don’t like Senator Kennedy. He let that girl die, and never made amends for it. But unless he walks into that Senate chamber clear-eyed and under his own power, there’s some people from his party who are going to go to Hell for making him be there.

Like me or loathe me, all of you know that I don’t say things like that lightly.

Hell has a special place for Reid.....

texas214 (Diary) Friday, February 6th at 11:51PM EST (link)

God make strike me dead for this one, but what if Kennedy dies on/during/because of his trip to Washington to place a vote for Reid and Obama that saddles America with a debt that last through the next generation.

Will they be seen as heros for getting him there or peices of $#@* for killing him.

the latter, of course

Where is the SCOTUS? They are branch of the government whose job is to interpret the Constitution. Clearly the stimulus bill is unconstitutional so why aren’t they reading it and perhaps warning Congress and Obama of its unconstitutionality and threatening to declare it so should it pass? Why does the SCOTUS only act when a case is brought to it?
I recall that once upon a time the SCOTUS did act to prevent constitutional violations. Back when FDR was trying to pass New Deal legislation he threatened to pack the court because they said much of the New Deal was unconstitutional. Ever since they just sit back and don’t seem to address much beyond 1st and 2nd Amendment cases.

The only unconstitutionality I can readily see...

scottbomb (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 12:40AM EST (link)

…is the fact that it’s in violation of the 10th amendment. Sadly, that amendment was all but formally nullified by our government.years ago and seems to carry no weight today.

For other ignored amendments, see the 4th the 2nd. The first isn’t far behind either.

Don’t forget that our president, who studied and TAUGHT the Constitution, isn’t very fond of it. We may be in for more “change” than the voters bargained for.

Poor saps. Some of ‘em were suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome. Others just wanted a black guy to make history, nevermind his policy positions. And the majority seem to think the president has total control over the economy. That last theory is what may ultimately do Obama in come 2012. A recent link on Drudge shows that CBO believes this “porkulous” bill will slow GDP by up to .3% by 2019: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/04/cbo-obama-stimulus-harmful-over-long-haul/

unconstitutional for the Supreme Court to prememptively declare something unconstiutional. The Constitution requires that there before a live case or controversy before deciding the merits of the matter. So, the bill has to be signed into law, someone has to have standing (no general taxpayer standing) to bring a suit, then it needs to wind its way through the courts to get to SCOTUS. That could take YEARS. This is not something that waiting for the courts to decide is a good idea.

This is a matter for the legislative and executive branches. Keep up the pressure.

Not the SCOTUS, but the states..

Jim Saturday, February 7th at 2:02AM EST (link)

The SCOTUS does not really have a good track record of faithfully interpreting the constitution. They have been part of the problem along with the other two branches of the federal government. Though I guess it is naive to expect that any of the three branches of government could be trusted to interpret the extent of their constitutional authority.

This is where the states really need to stand up. The states should reassert the power of nullification, by which they can refuse to enforce any law that they find unconstitutional. This has precedent in history going back to Jefferson (The Kentucky & Virgina Resolutions).

The other day I read with great interest (and hope) a resolution being introduced in the state of New Hampshire reasserting their rights as a state. If only more state governments were of this line of thinking, the federal government would find its hands tied very tightly and not able to propose wasteful spending bills like what we see now.

I don’t wish him dead b/c I don’t have any ill will toward him but I do wish him out of the Senate asap. Kennedy has been one of the single most destructive men in Senatorial history. No, legislative history.

Specter and Snowe/Collins....

texas214 (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 12:01AM EST (link)

Which ever ones vote for this need to be kicked out of the Republican Party; cloture or no cloture in the future. If the unpopularity of this spending bill isn’t enough to give them cover then they have no business being in the Republican Party…. the party of Lincoln, Teddy R., and Reagan. They all would be rolling over in their grave.

Lincoln, TR, and Reagan - not exactly the same

icbm (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 12:09AM EST (link)

and who knows what they would say today about fiscal policy (apart from Reagan – we know what Reagan would say).

TR especially I’m not sure about. He led the Progressive wing of the party for heaven’s sake. And his view of federal power was not exactly in keeping with limited govt.

Each had their issues...

texas214 (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 12:19AM EST (link)

Lincoln with states rights (and this coming froma southerner), TR with expansionism of government to deal with expansion west of the Miss. and even Reagan with amnesty. But each believed in the rights bestowed to individuals from the Constitution (God) and that America was and is the greatest experiment in the history of mankind. I’m not sure about O and his merry band of theives, they only care about themselves and how they can CHANGE American.

No, I’m not literally advocating to kick them out. But they’re worthless if they cave on the principles that are uniting and reviving conservatism and Republicans.

I expect that Dems will be able to pick off these three and perhaps a few more in the 111th session of congress. Republicans lost this vote in the 109th and 110th. However, if we continue to see Republicans return to be guided by principles over deal-making, then I believe that in the 112th, Dems will need to pick off more than just those three.

…can make amends. But rarely do they make enough. I agree with Kennedy a lot. I admire his service and his commitment. But killing someone because you were drunk is one of the more preventable ways to leave a black mark on your life. I wasn’t alive during that whole thing, but I am often at a loss about Ted Kennedy’s place in the unquestioned pantheon of Liberal greats. Policy is important, but there’s a place for character judgments as well.

I can't believe I'm saying this...

texas214 (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 12:41AM EST (link)

but here goes. You sound young and liberal. The only reason we know who Teddy Kennedy is he had a rich father who got his favorite son (second favorite son according to reports), Teddy’s brother, elected President. Who was tragically assasinated and then then had another brother assasinated while running for Pres.

With all of that said that; that is the extent of his qualifications to be a senator and the only reason you know who he is.

Well...

Addison (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 12:49AM EST (link)

I’m just saying that drunk driving is not high on my list of things I like people doing, killing people while drunk driving less so, and I don’t understand the lionization. Kennedy has done some things I agree with while in the Senate. Still, I always wonder at the extent of the hero worship, considering.

he arrives and has another set of seizures (like he did at Obama day)? I am just saying – not that many of Congress have all of their mental faculties but Kennedy does have a tumor on his brain, he did have recent episodes of seizures, and I am a nurse and of course I did not see him up close or examine him but he had that blank look, that “my mind” is no longer here look. I have taken care of a patient with the exact type of tumor he has and actually was operated on by the same surgeons for this same condition – trust me – he needs to be evaluated for competency – is there anyway this can be called on? I am still learning all of the political procedures but I think it is a possibility he may not be competent to make anymore votes (here in GA a court has to declare a person incompetent) but is there a way for someone to question his competency?

I promise I am not being mean here – just thinking about the fact that these liberals wanted to pull the plug and eventually did on Terri Schiavo by removing her feeding tube because she was in a “Persistent Vegitative State” – should we have a Senator who MAY be getting close to that state voting??? If you can find links back to the last day he was out – Obama day – go back and watch – look at his eyes – he has that blank barely in there stare.

Please let me know what you think. Again, I swear I am not trying to be cold or mean or wish any harm to this man (even though I don’t like him) I do not wish him any harm.

http://cancer-types.suite101.com/article.cfm/signs_and_symptoms_of_gliomas

Senator Edward Kennedy’s recent diagnosis–glioblastoma multiforme–has raised awareness of intracranial malignancies.

Signs and Symptoms of Gliomas

Many signs and symptoms from brain tumors result from increased pressure within the rigid skull, which does not allow the brain to expand significantly as a tumor grows. Other symptoms are secondary to effects upon nearby structures and inflammation associated with malignant invasion.

Headache (often worse upon awakening from deep sleep) is the most common symptom. Vomiting may accompany headache

Deterioration in mental status (lethargy, personality changes, combative or aggressive behavior, impaired cognition, etc.)

Memory loss

Generalized or focal seizures (new onset)
Impairment of motion or sensation in a body region; often unilateral

Difficulty walking

Hearing loss

Visual field defects or loss of vision

Vertigo

Acquired inability to smell

Tremor

Nystagmus

Urinary urgency or incontinence

Difficulty speaking or understanding what others are saying

Excessive thirst or appetite

Inappropriate denial of illness, injury or bodily defects

Visual hallucinations

Many signs and symptoms of gliomas mimic other medical or psychiatric entities. Neurological symptoms that cannot be readily explained (e.g., ataxia from alcohol use or hallucinations secondary to substance abuse) must be promptly investigated.

Again, I promise I am not trying to be mean – but if the vote comes down to Kennedy and I am thinking possibly he possibly might not need to vote???

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

America does not equal the state

The federal government, the fraudulent fractional-reserve banking system, the fiat dollar are all driving off a cliff at 95 mph; but that does not mean America is doomed. Our country is not equivalent to it’s government. We are more than our government, and what binds us together (faith, family, community) will only grow stronger as our oppressive government flounders and fails.

I would more accurately say:

Yes, there’s not going to be a resolution to the debt crisis anytime soon. You may hate Ted Kennedy but we still have this crisis on hand. There’s really nothing else they can do but pass this stimulus plan or run the risk of going into depression. I don’t think they need Kennedy to do this.

NO, NO, NO - I completely disagree, I think this porkulus bill could put us in a depression, it sure will not keep us from going into one

As far as needing Kennedy – if one of the three RINO’s backs out (which would remove them for that moment from being a RINO) then they would need his vote. It is just cruel to drag that sick man out just because they are so greedy and stubborn.

Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

What? Is it now boiling down to a "message of FEAR and THREAT" of Depression?

so that the public will cling to it like there’s no tomorrow.

Where is now the HOPE and CHANGE that killed FEAR and MORE OF THE SAME?

Obama’s Stimulus Package is now beginning to look like a Blackmail Bill.

Blackmail or not

izoneguy (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 5:37PM EST (link)

Obama will put us in a depression regardless.

You could pass a $10 Trillion stimulus – it would not matter.

Obama is a marxist. And does not believe in a capitalist system period. More government, big government has been proven not to be a path to prosperity. When producers stop producing the tax well will go dry. The rest of the world will be broke as well and then it will be every person for themselves. Obama is a divider but not a conquerer.
Obama will never extinguish the true spirit of America. This is a dark time for all the freedom loving, real producers in America. We will come back with a harder resolve to not let this happen again. America will be a tougher, meaner place all thanks to Obama.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

I hate to say it, izone

but I think that my wife is going crazy (hope she won’t read it; she’s also a frequent reader of RS.) She’s stocking some stuff (I checked them out – mostly canned food) in the den. I got angry with it coz I find it “too much”.

She’s arguing that she has a hunch that inflation will rise to unprecedented level once the money from this Stimulus package starts to flow.

I really don’t know what to say.

This still-to-be-seen depression is getting into my nerves. Its psychological impact is now affecting my household.

This going to hell business

peg_c (Diary) Saturday, February 7th at 9:34AM EST (link)

Now that is a blog that all but creates itself. I could actually get into that and I’m not even Catholic. A whole slew of folks are going to hell, many of them Democrats absolutely. All the Dems in Congress and some Repubicans (Levin influence here, please respect it, I didn’t make it up) for sure. Pretty sure everyone in the commie’s WH is going. BTW I’m keeping my Kennedy comments to myself. Just imagine obscenities here.

Can someone start a Going to Hell thread? We really need it.

Government cannot be the solution when government is the problem.
