Breaking: Daschle has withdrawn for HHS. More as we get it.
UPDATE (Dan McLaughlin): To elaborate on the subtitle: Senatorial courtesy would never have allowed this to happen if the Obama folks hadn’t already burned political capital dragging Geithner across the finish line (and if there hadn’t been so many others, from Charlie Rangel to Nancy Killefer). Pop quiz: who do we know in the rest of Obama’s Cabinet who is interested in health care reform?

Too bad Obama didn’t give some sort of McGovern-esque statement about how he supports Eagleton 110% Err… Daschle.

Now, if only Judd Gregg
Flagstaff (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 1:01PM EST (link)would withdraw HIS bid to be commerce Secretary and stay on as a Republican Senator.
Yet, Gregg puts me in mind of Groucho Marx’s old statement, paraphrased as “I wouldn’t want a Republican Senator who would abandon his post to become a semipartisan Commerce Secretary.”
“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.”– Malcolm X, Audubon Ballroom, December 13, 1964
The good news on Gregg is,
Dan McLaughlin (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 1:05PM EST (link)the Commerce Secretary supervises the Census Bureau. Having a lifelong conservative Republican in that job will make it less likely that the 2010 census can be manipulated for purposes of partisan entrenchment.

Only If You Trust Gregg
IJB Tuesday, February 3rd at 1:19PM EST (link)Based on this latest move, I don’t trust him any more than Daschle.
We’ve got no guarantee that he won’t roll over to ACORN, et al. on Census issues.
After all, he’s effectively already caved on the quality of his replacement (if you believe that she’ll actually even be named, which I don’t…).
One down. Now to stop the Debt bill.

Why has nobody in the SCUM
Flagstaff (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 1:03PM EST (link)mentioned that BO has shown poor judgment in picking these questionable characters for his cabinet?

People didn't care about Obama's lack of judgment during the campaign.

Rod and NT,
Flagstaff (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 5:36PM EST (link)it was sort of a rhetorical question.
They don’t mention it because they are the publicity arm of the

bk (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 7:41PM EST (link)In Obama’s case it was to show he cares about kids and isn’t bolted down to the White House.
If it had been Bush it would be a matter of him trying to hide from the withering questions of the relentless press corps.
According to AP
Wayne (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 8:37PM EST (link)Obama, he “bolted the gated compound of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue”. Because “we were just tired of being in the White House”. Didn’t he just spend 2 years and 600 Million dollars to get there? Maybe the thought of having to explain something got to him? Or dealing with the lack of love from Iran, NK, or maybe Kyrgyzstan closing Manas AFB, at Vlad’s urging? Sounds like the wonder Pres has already been boxed in, and he needs to escape the pressure.

jonreagan (Diary) Tuesday, February 3rd at 1:05PM EST (link)We can’t have double standards for ethics in government, if we are to ever achieve the politics of hope.
Given the lack of ethical standards in Chicago–now more evident than ever–there is little doubt that Obama’s reliance on a lobbyist to help him buy property was never fully investigated (or I should say, never investigated at all….)
Clearly, we need a Special Prosecutor to delve into this sordid mess. And given Eric Holder’s fealty to President Clinton in the 90′s—on matters such as the Marc Rich pardon—I’m sure he wants to avoid charges that once again, he’s failing to act independently as AG.
