LA Secretary of State results here: while the GOP candidate is ahead in both, LA-02 only has 22 of 492 Parishes reporting.  LA-04 has it at48.5/47.9 Fleming/Carmouche with 304 of 640 reporting.

Could Jefferson Really Lose?!

But 139 of 492 precints in, Jefferson is now down about 40/60!

Meanwhile, Fleming is now behind by > 1% with 465 of 640 precints reporting. That is not looking good. Looks like that diary about the LA-04 district (can’t find it right now) was prophetic.

It would be shocking of Jefferson loses, and Fleming doesn’t win.

The Green Papers lists him as Unaffiliated, but has a little subtitle in parentheses saying he’s a Republican. Bowen is also subtitled a Republican.

So once again, we’ve decided to shoot ourselves in the foot by splitting Republican votes when we were up against a guy trying to picth himself as a conservative Democrat.

Hope Fleming will try again in 2 years when Carmouche will have to run on a record that will no doubt contain a bunch of liberal votes forced on him by Pelosi and Co.

…I think Catfish is getting votes from people who would otherwise not be voting. I mean, check out his website: http://bothpartiesarescrewingyou.com

He’s a Perot. He’s getting a portion of the vote (anti-globalization and anti-government) that seems to regularly transcend parties. Especially in the South.

I think it is a mistake to conclude that Kelley is a drain on one or the other candidate. If people are coming out to vote for him, I don’t think they’d be there if not for him.

Most everyone at Dailykos appears to be rooting against Jefferson.

Doesn’t look good – the big parish there is Caddo, and Carmouche has a 7k margin there with 27 precincts to count. Bossier has about 37 precincts to count – it’s going for Fleming, but it’s only amounted to a 1,800 vote margin because it isn’t as populous.

Fleming might be able to close the current gap of about 1,800 votes, but that doesn’t factor in the lead Carmouche is likely to run in the remaining Caddo precincts.

I checked out his website and he’s a nutter – his second bullet point on what he will do (right after ensuring that the military gets properly funded) is to stop all efforts at a North American Union (which he claims has been shown to be fact).

In other words he’s a Ronulan – which probably means he’s pulling from our side, though with the crackpots it’s hard to tell how many of his voters would have stayed home if he weren’t on the ballot.

I was just looking at the numbers from precincts and some have Fleming not getting 1 vote while the Dem is getting 200 votes

Looking at the results in the individual precincts, they are mostly breaking heavily one way or the other. I’ve gotta think that it’s breaking by race, and that the white precincts are the ones reporting early.

That being said, this may be the best shot we’ve had at unseating Jefferson. Short of a successful prosecution, that is.

It would definitely be a squeaker.

Bossier has 38 of 75 precincts in and Fleming has accumulated about 1,800 vote lead in the parish. If we assume that the votes left uncounted are equal in number to those already counted and that Fleming wins them at the same margin – he will make up just about 1,800 votes in the remaining precincts. Which would basically put the race dead even.

I cannot find any provisions in LA election law that provide for an automatic recount. I presume that there is a provision that allows a candidate to request one. Not sure how it works though.

Geeze, it took me a second. I so expected Carmouche to be ahead, that I looked at the numbers and just assumed he was ahead.

Anyhow, should this victory stick, it is almost as good of news as the fact that William Jefferson seems to be losing.

I wanted Jefferson to lose more because he’s bad for America, but it would have been bad for Republicans to lose this seat because Caramouche was a good candidate and if he was smart, once in, he’d be very difficult to dislodge.

The district, which was drawn to give African Americans an electoral advantage, covers most of New Orleans, most of Jefferson Parish’s West Bank and parts of south Kenner. About two-thirds of the district’s voters are registered as Democrats.

If you know the area, you know that’s some serious gerrymandering.

He can’t cry racism, since the district was carved to make it as black and as Democratic as possible. So he dreamed up a good one, from the same article quoted above…

Jefferson, who is seeking a 10th term as he awaits trial on federal charges of bribery and public corruption, had expressed concerns that his base of African-American supporters might assume that he had won re-election last month and stay home from the polls today, potentially dooming his re-election effort.

So he’s losing because his voters were too stupid to vote for him. Well we figured people would have to be idiots to vote for Jefferson and he’s confirmed it.

350 votes is a small margin. But it’s not 150 or 50. I think it’s too high a hill to climb for the Dems to pull that one out…

Meanwhile, LA-02 is all in, and JEFFERSON LOST BY 3%
