Quote of the Day Weekend Memorial Open Thread.

Chutzpah So Strong It's Crystallizing at the Bottom Edition.

If you needed any confirmation that this race was bizarre in ways that would make a neo-anti-anti-Dadaist performance artist on acid scratch his partially-shaved, partially-covered-in-dyed-weasels head, here you go:

“If I’m not mistaken, when Al Gore and his brilliant running mate, about this time in the campaign in 2000, were about six or seven points behind,” Lieberman stated. “And, of course, we won. Or we got more votes, anyway.”

I think that we all need a moment to just sit there and contemplate that one.

How many surrealists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

I have no idea if my previous comment will appear, but I’m getting sick of this site breaking.

How about some Redstate fundraising…

since the one I wrote after it got posted.

My question was why didn’t Michelle and the girls go with Barack to see his gravely ill grandmother? Both my wife and I would go if either one of our grandma’s was that sick. I’m not saying it’s germane to the election, but it’s just odd.

Aw, you missed the traditional punchline

Let’s get down to brass tacks here. How much for the ape?

I still wonder what would have happened...

liberalrepublican (Diary) Friday, October 24th at 4:53PM EST (link)

If McCain made Joe his VP.

Ideal outcome – the MSM falls in love and starts actively rooting for them.

While the base doesn’t show the love financially, they come along reluctantly because what else are they going to do?

When the fincial crisis hits, they play the experience card hard.

Imagine if John and Joe had gone to congress together to work on the bailout bill?

That was the turning point. It was about even until then.

Independents flock to the team that can actually get things done and John McCain wins.

I’m just playing “what if”

“Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. … including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy”

Nice thought, but...

azaeroprof (Diary) Friday, October 24th at 5:08PM EST (link)

a choice of an old, white guy by McCain = boring. The media spends all weekend prior to the RNC re-hashing O’s Greek column extravaganza and we start the RNC probably 10 points down. Nobody watches the RNC, we get little if no bounce, and the race goes out of reach when the financial meltdown occurs (or at least doesn’t get any better for us).

McCain’s choice of Palin and the incredible bump we got during and after the RNC was the only reason it was close before the meltdown. And Palin’s 2 bad interviews coincided with, but were not the cause of, McCain’s poll drop after the meltdown.

That’s my opinion anyway. I still think that to whatever extent we have any prayer left at this point, it’s due to Palin. I know her poll numbers appear down according to some (ABC/WaPo, CBS/NYT??), but the only reason there is any excitement to the GOP ticket is due to her. Even today, 80% of the buttons sold at our GOP HQ are Palin-only buttons, not McC/Pa ones.

Sorry. I couldn't get on this morning.

RedState 3.0 was…well….being RedState 3.0, or, as I like to call it RedState 404.

“Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal, and took Iwo Jima, Baghdad ain’t s–t”. Maj. Gen. John F. Kelly, USMC, Deputy CG, First MEF

But that answer isn't surreal.

29Victor (Diary) Friday, October 24th at 6:28PM EST (link)

It’s about surrealist being surreal, but it is not in and of itself, surreal.

My answer, being entirely non-sequitur, exposes a philisophical reality and questions our assumptions about the normative understanding of the light-bulb joke and elevates it to a higher reality …and a bunch of other moder-art crapola…

You got it.

If McCain loses, the reason can be summed up in two words: Barack Obama.

If McCain wins, the reason can be summed up in two words: Sarah Palin.

IJB Friday, October 24th at 9:26PM EST (link)

If McCain loses, it will entirely be due to the financial meltdown. McCain was ahead until the market tanked. As far as I am concerned, it’s the only reason he’s behind now.

Question for you lawyer types...

Elizabeth (Diary) Friday, October 24th at 10:00PM EST (link)

I’m a legal immigrant but not yet an American citizen. Obviously, I’m not allowed to vote and I can’t make financial contributions to political campaigns. What am I legally permitted to do to support McCain (if anything)? I assume it’s okay for me to advocate for him online, right? Am I allowed to volunteer for the campaign? For example, can I make calls, knock on doors, or drive people to polling stations?

You can volunteer your time

itrytobenice (Diary) Friday, October 24th at 10:59PM EST (link)

I believe you can make phone calls and volunteer your time. You just can’t give money or vote.

And that’s too bad, ’cause you’re a lot smarter than a lot of the yahoos who are voting.

Maybe one of you could do a nice little story about this. Apparently Joe the Plumber’s records may have been illegally accessed after he was mentioned in the debate. Reading the story, this could end up a criminal investigation. Joe may bring down the corrupt partisans before he ever runs for Congress!!

Is “media infatuation”. McCain was in the best position to pin the financial meltdown on the Dems. But with Mac being who he is and the media paying no attention anyway, well, that’s where we are.

Thanks!
