There are two types of people who will watch this (simulated) video.
(Via Hot Air) There are the people who will blink as they realize that, yes, they just watched the reproduction of a Vice Presidential candidate being violently blindsided, tackled, and screamed at incoherently by a man in a football uniform.
And then there are the people who will find this funny. They’ll probably be thrilled to hear that he’s done it twice, in fact. Especially the part where she whimpers about being hurt, mostly because there’s no chance that they’ll ever see her do it in real life.

edburns Monday, October 20th at 8:27AM EST (link)This is the kind of nonsense that panders to extremists. Were I not a patriot and thankful for the sacrifices of our men in women in uniform, I would say something like, “such videos should never be produced”. However you feel about this video, you can take pride in supporting a country that tolerates the production of such nonsense. You can also feel ashamed for the people that produce and happily consume it.
Yep.

Palin has stood by and encouraged people to yell, “kill him,” and “terrorist” at her rallies. She and her husband support the Alaska Independence Party, which is devoted to secession from the United States and to the violent destruction of the US government.

“Universal,” “guaranteed” health care
“Free” college tuition.
“Universal national service” (a la Havana).
“Universal 401(k)s” (in which the government would match contributions made by “low- and moderate-income families”).
“Free” job training (even for criminals).
“Wage insurance” (to supplement dislocated union workers’ old income levels).
“Free” child care and “universal” preschool.
More subsidized public housing.
A fatter earned income tax credit for “working poor.”
His collectivist tendencies, his statements about empowerment of “the workers,” and his wealth redistribution plans all point directly to socialism.

That is the left M.O. Ridicule, degrade, attack, lie if necessary. So I am not surprised that there are videos out there like this. So they attack. This video is not very funny, but – frankly – that’s all I can say about it. I like Terry Tate. He used to be funny. This made me half-chuckle for about 1 second and that was it.
This skit is “not very funny” that’s all there is to it. To read much more into it, frankly, is much ado about nothing. I’m pretty sure the governor is a big girl who can take care of herself without any manufactured outrage.
It’s obviously not real. If it were real, Terry Tate would drop – about 99.5 yds short of the Gov. – with a .223 sized hole in his knee. She seems to know her way around an M-4 carbine, after all.
I would recommend leaving the “outrage” for the liberals. They are better at it than we are. It’s not particularly funny, but it will be gone and forgotten tomorrow.

Either way, the Terry Tate character is well-established; he tackles unsuspecting people. This is just what he does. Whether or not you think she really is, Sarah Palin appeared a bit unsuspecting in that clip, so here comes Terry Tate to do his thing. If you were to watch the original commercial featuring the character, you would see that several women are tackled there as well. Where was the outrage when that aired? There wasn’t any, because those women weren’t running for Vice President and thus didn’t need nonsense side issues to cover up their unfitness for the job.

Not true
shooflyguy68 Monday, October 20th at 10:44AM EST (link)I am not a pure ideological Libertarian. The government should protect citizens from criminals, defend the country from foreign attack, etc. The government should enforce contract law. I don’t want to privatize the roads, fire or police services or eliminate public education. I do think the government should enforce some worker and consumer safety standards though it needs to tread lightly so as not to strangle businesses with regulation. I am also not opposed to some “moral” standards that protect children especially (e.g. no sale of alcohol, tobacco or porn to children).
However, using the power of government to enforce one particular religion’s version of morality is not something I can support. I cannot support it anymore than I could support the government telling members of a particular faith how they should practice their faith.
Funny, I thought the government was made up of activity among free consenting adults.

Given my strong national defense mindset, I suppose I can claim to be a tripod Conservative.
I noticed during the bailout debate last month that, in many cases, the positions of our resident SoCons were philosophically to the right of the FisCons. It seems that we have the ability to apply our dogmatic nature across a wide range of issues.
Shooflyguy, please give us a little credit. I think that if you more positively promote fiscal conservatism, and stop dwelling on our social issue differences, you will find unwavering allies on economic issues, which are usually more important in winning elections anyway.
so much wrong with this
gadawg225 Monday, October 20th at 11:07AM EST (link)The first of those ads was a superbowl commercial. I agree that only the first “office linebacker” commercial was remotely funny.
I think Tate tackling a woman, though, is not only “not funny;” it inherently crosses the line. I think it’s an endorsement of violence against women. I thought the same thing about the online anti-Hillary Big Brother ad last year, but this Tate ad is much much worse for two reasons: 1)in the Big Brother ad, a woman was the attacker of Hillary and 2)Tate is purporting to attack Palin directly.
I also think this ad is racist, in that it encourages the idea of black men as scary violent thugs.
So we'll enforce YOUR moral standards.

I'm not describing your view as anarchy (exactly)
E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 11:50AM EST (link)But more as a short trip from anarchy.
What I am saying is that your viewpoint, which strips away any boundaries on personal behavior, gets us 80% of the way to anarchy.
You POV advocates, essentially, that people are entitled to engage in every behavior that is not specifically criminal.
A society that has no standards of decency and curbs on behavior is doomed. After all, what is specifically wrong with a man, in a public park on Saturday afternoon where families are having picnics, with just dropping his pants and fondling himself in front of all the children?
Is there anything wrong about that? Should it be illegal? If so, why? Doesn’t that imply some kind of moral context?
And once you allow this sort of thing, and society and the law place no bounds on behavior that is grossly disrespectful to morality, soon you have no bounds at all. None. Anarchy.

shooflyguy68 Monday, October 20th at 12:09PM EST (link)mouth or strokes on my keyboard if you wish. I never accused SoCons of any of the things you mentioned.
Specifically, I don’t think that religious arguments against same sex marriage, abortion, euthanasia among other issues should have any weight when it comes to the law of the land.
To be clear, I oppose abortion based on what I believe is the right of the child not to have their life taken without due process of law. However, I also see the right of women to have control over their bodies and reproductive processes. My preference would be to limit abortion rights to the first trimester and prohibit it thereafter unless the life and health of the mother were in peril. It’s not an ideal proposal but one on which we can find wide spread consensus accross the country and accross the political spectrum.
I don’t think I’ve ever written about the Texas Lawrence desicion before, but yes, I believe that the government had no compelling legal reason to prevent the private sexual activity of adults in their own homes.
I am also adamantly opposed to teaching Creationism or it’s disguised cousing Intelligent Design in school science classes. If we want to have the Bible as literature or Creationism as philosophy in class, I would not oppose it. I oppose school prayer that is organized and mandated by the administration but strongly support the right of students to pray in school on their own or with like minded friends.
I happen to think that anyone that believes in the Bible or the Quaran, Torah or other Holy Book literally is not someone that I could trust to make rational decisions. If you think that the earth is less than 10,000 years old or that Noah really got two of each animal onto an ark that survived a global flood, I don’t want you as a government official any more than I would want someone who believed the world was flat, that there were little green men on the moon or that fairies inhabited the world’s forests. Luckily for them, my belief is as irrelevant to the Constitution and to the law as are their religious beliefs. There is no religious test for holding office in this country and I thank the Founders for their wise actions.

Hello once again shooflyguy68
Matthew Morris (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 12:20PM EST (link)I like to ask this of those who see things the way you do-
Could you please explain how one should go about drawing the line between beliefs that the government should embrace and/or enforce and those that it should not?
Secondly, what is the difference between the source of your beliefs and values you want the government to uphold, and the source for those whose values are rooted in traditional religion?

Not true.
NightTwister (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 12:21PM EST (link)You specifically said,
How is criminal activity defined? It is someone’s or some group’s moral determination that things like theft, assault, and murder are criminal.
You simply have a smaller subset of criminal activity than others do. And what you want is to only enforce that which you think is criminal.

We should do meetings
E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 12:27PM EST (link)Actually there’s no such event going, but I think we should. Streetwise have talked about doing such a thing (or maybe it was just doing lunch).
But I think we all should. I’m in Mansfield, working in Carrollton (yes, it’s a lovely commute, thank you). Street is in HEB somewhere. Where do you hail from?
And I know there are several other DFW folks about. Anybody?

Matthew Morris (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 12:37PM EST (link)As for the second question- I will tell you where I am going with that.
Everyone pulls their beliefs and values out of something. For some, that means the Bible. And there are other traditional sources. As for all the anti-religion intellectuals and secularists, well… you tell me what they pull theirs out of.
Science and its empirical data by intrinsic nature remain silent on such matters. So I always argue: Traditionalists are usually not alone in their ignorance.

But apparently "merely" thinking that God incarnated Himself...
Moe Lane (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 12:42PM EST (link)…in the form of a human being, allowed Himself to be killed for mankind’s sins, then came back from the dead as part of a sacrifice for all time – we can have people who believe that in office.
Or people who “merely” believe that there is no God but God, and Mohammad is the Prophet of God.
Or people who “merely” think that they are descended from a single man uniquely favored by YHWH to bring forth a Chosen People.
Or people who “merely” believe that God is simultaneously One, Three, and Three Million, all of Whom is/are bound up in an eternal cycle of creation and destruction.
I can go on, but I completely fail to see why you stopped where you did, absent some sort of aesthetics. It certainly isn’t due to any sort of self-consistent logic.

PS: I did not borrow this thought from David Thompson and Carnal Reason. To quote Twain, immature writers borrow. Mature writers steal.

I'm guessing

From Denton (any other DFWers?)
Matthew Morris (Diary) Monday, October 20th at 12:50PM EST (link)Living in the Denton area currently
Lived in north Dallas, Carrollton, and Lewisville most of my adult life. And I’ve worked in Carrollton quite a bit too! I remembered you were in TX, don’t think I knew you were DFW though. Pretty nifty. Ditto Streetwise.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

Should’ve known that someone of your insight and erudition was a Texan.

Nitpicking
ojintoad Monday, October 20th at 2:00PM EST (link)I’m late and this is along comment thread so adding my 2 cents isn’t much, but…
I listened closely to the other video of Palin being tackled. I don’t think I would construe it as her whimpering at the end. She says “oooh!” mostly as if she’s surprised. She’s saying “Didn’t hurt!”, which would only speak to how tough she is. In the video you’ve featured, she simply says “Dog gonit” and says “oooh!” again as if it didn’t hurt.
Tate isn’t shouting incoherently, but the audio is lousy. What he’s saying in the feature ad above is: “How’s that for Drill Baby Drill! You just subscribed to Terry’s Journal of Pain!! And the first issue is free, baby! Whoo!! … Hey Katie!”
The Tate ads are not about actually tackling people – the tackle is used as a metaphor for knocking sense into them. Understanding that is important to understanding the context of any of the ads.
I don’t agree with your outrage, and that’s only becuase honestly this ad campaign hasn’t been all that relevant 300,000 views is pretty low on the internet ladder. Who knows how many you may have generated by simply posting it here.
All that being said, I don’t think this ad is malicious, but it’s pretty ignorant to create an ad of an elected official getting tackled. Tate needs to tackle himself.
That's a good point
