ACORN & Obama

"I’ve been fighting alongside Acorn on issues you care about my entire career…"

First, watch this CNN expose of Democratic Party ally ACORN’s registration fraud in Indiana:

Checked it out? Good. Now go here, to the GOP’s new website Barack Obama’s ACORN Tree. Feel free to peruse: you will find it quite interesting, and hopefully so will some of your friends and loved ones.

Quite interesting.

PS: There was a conference call today on this topic: I need to eat and you’re all mostly familiar with the systematic voter registration fraud by ACORN that it documented. Many of the bits about Senator Obama’s specific ties to ACORN can be found at the website.

ACORN = flawed registration method

Indeed, ACORN’s model for registering voters is flawed. First, they don’t use volunteers (who by and large would be registering voters as a noble effort to encourage participation in democracy) but rather they use paid workers. Often, these paid workers are very low-income types and are rewarded with incentives for registering more voters. This leads to a system where these paid workers bend the rules, cut corners and cheat to bring in higher numbers.

As to why anyone thinks this is a good way to register voters is beyond me. In my state, when we receive or renew our drivers’ licenses we are asked if we would like to register to vote. This is how I was registered. No one gets a bonus when I register and all of my information is verified right then and there. No cheating, no problems.

While I don’t believe for a second that ACORN is a “non-partisan” outfit, their stated goal of getting more people involved and registered is positive. Their means for doing so, however, breeds this low-level corruption that we are currently seeing across the nation.

Whether the fraud will cause any actual election day irregularities is not so clear, but the last thing we need after the past couple of elections is even the perception of fraud.

Until we move to a centralized, nationalized method of identifying voters at the polling places that is accountable, we will continue to see these types of fraud committed.

It is a shame that we cannot get such a system implemented.
