Running against the wrong guy
rleander Monday, October 6th at 5:41PM EST (link)I think JMac has it wrong – Look at the polls. The public wants someone other than Bush. They have already figured out that Obama is not Bush. Bashing Obama may be great sport, but JMac’s anger is better directed at making sure that a significant portion of the 75% who don’t like the job Bush is doing understand why JMac is not Bush. It appears to me not only has he not done that yet (to the satisfaction of a majority of the population) but he’s not really trying to send that message.

MSM has been most successful in shoving the idea down the throats of the American people that everybody on Wall Street and in corporate America must be REPUBLICAN. WRONG. Let’s have names & faces of every democrat involved in this financial meltdown. failed schooling:

He needs to turn to Obama, multiple times, and say ‘Why did you oppose regulation when I supported it? Was it anything to do with the fact that you got the most from Fannie of anyone in Congress? Why do you keep lying, saying I opposed regulation, when I proposed it multiple times and you and the Democrats in Congress consistently rejected it?’ What can Obama say? McCain must stress energy independendence. Should also refer to: “There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy,” Obama said. “Making sure your tires are properly inflated – simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling – if everybody was just inflating their tires? And getting regular tune-ups? You’d actually save just as much!”
Obama is out of touch on energy.

Desperate
onespouseonehouse Monday, October 6th at 7:22PM EST (link)Desperation is running rampant in the McCain/Palin campaign.
The GOP held their nose with the nomination of John McCain because even though they didn’t like his GOP credentials, they thought his moderate/maverick status would allow his high favorability ratings with the American people to garner support of the moderates. Unfortunately for the GOP, his favorability ratings have declined just as sharp as the stock market in the last 3 months. His negative campaigning is also driving down his favorability ratings. Governor Palin’s favorability ratings are plummeting as well. Every poll released since the debate has said she has lost, even though the hard core conservatives gleefully welcome here. She doesn’t connect with moderates and undecideds. She scares the blank out of older Jewish ladies in southern Florida and Bush supporters like Ed Koch.
The McCain argument of standing up to his party has fallen deaf when he picked Palin. He could have been the true maverick and picked someone like Ridge or Lieberman, which would have also fit into his mantra of “Country first”. It would have been a game-changer. Instead he went to the “Pander to my party first” and picked Palin. Someone who went to 5 colleges in 6 years, hasn’t had a passport until 6 months ago and couldn’t name one supreme court case she didn’t agree with is not VP material. Lieberman and Ridge would named named 12 off the top of their heads, Jindal probably could have done 20.
As Kramer said in the Seinfeld episode, “Poise counts”. His behavior, decisions have shown how shaky and erratic he is. In the debate, he couldn’t even look at Obama. Aesthetically (through no fault of his own b/c of his imprisonment) he has to make a connection to the people. He doesn’t do this on screen and didn’t in the debate with Obama. In a crisis, America doesn’t want a maverick or erratic leader.
Palin was a base pick…and in an election to win the middle, he is struggling. Obama’s support among independents is going up and up. Obama is also winning disaffected Hillary supporters.
I am an admitted Obama supporter, I won’t deny that. Looking objectively at this though, McCain is just running a bad campaign. As much as I don’t like Rove, I can say honestly that he would have done a much better job than Schmidt. Obama has been brilliant from the start. He did something no other republican could do, he beat the Clintons.
As a Democrat though, I will say this. The GOP would be smart to nominate Bobby Jindall in 2012. He is one Republican the Democrats should be worried about.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.
Finally
theredman (Diary) Monday, October 6th at 8:17PM EST (link)John finally gets how to attack! I’m so proud of him!
McCain knows what he is doing, in my opinion.
Mord (Diary) Monday, October 6th at 8:18PM EST (link)During the entire, drawn out, democratic primary this website was filled with people moaning about how McCain wasn’t bashing Obama on all of the dirt that the Clinton campaign was digging up. McCain seemed feeble and unwilling to fight…that seemed to be the general opinion. The Dem’s convention was a big flop…it seemed they thought McCain was feeble and unwilling to fight as well, the clinton’s didn’t help much. Obama did not perform his best.
Obama is now 10 points ahead in all the polls. There is much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Palin is selected as VP and….
The GOP has it’s best ever month in fundraising…McCain is ahead in the polls for a while…everyone is finally enthusiastic and we see site traffic that shuts down the servers and makes reading RedState almost impossible for a short while.
Now, suddenly, the economy basically stops working (detailed extensivly here by several authors) We all know that it’s the Democrats’ fault, yet McCain seems to be reluctant to call out anyone by name…He seems to be wasting his time trying to get a bailout bill passed instead. Obama’s poll numbers magically climb even though he didn’t actually do anything to help make the sausage….there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Now, after a bill that represents the best our current government can do to adress our current economic crisis has been signed into law…almost the day after….McCain goes on a two-front attack. Palin is questioning Obama’s judgement abut what kind of friends he surrounds himself with, and McCain calls Obama an outright LIAR ( about time) and rhetorically kicks sand in his face.
I think McCain knows what he is doing. He knows when to save his ammo and when to blow it all at once.
Attacking Obama during the democratic primary might have resulted in running against Hillary, a much tougher fight.
He waited until october (and after the bailout passed) to start nailing democrats on the economic meltdown and from what I see, it is working.
Democrats are actually complaining about unfair attacks now, because it’s so close to voting day. That is like complaining abut your opponent’s marksmanship during a duel.

Barack Obama: Kenyan Jihadi
After Odinga failed to capture the Kenyan presidency and Odinga’s followers began hacking and burning their way across Kenya, Barack Obama — according to Odinga’s January 8, 2008 BBC radio interview — called Odinga twice, on January 7, 2008, apparently to express his support for Odinga.
Melanie Phillips of Spectator UK was mystified, in January, at the American media’s braindead treatment of Obama’s Kenyan connections and their connection to global jihad:
While I was away, reading about the appalling atrocities in Kenya in which churches were torched and dozens of Christians burned to death, I wondered whether any mainstream media would get the point. They didn’t. As far as I could see, the violence was universally ascribed to ‘tribal conflict’.

Do you feel more like a man when you can talk in a tone like that. Do you do it somehow to compensate for something you’re lacking?
McCain’s right jabs are not sticking. Looking at every poll, not just one, but every poll taken after the post convention bounces, Obama is leaving McCain in the dust. The verdict is out on the Palin pick, it bombed. It was a gamble and he lost.
If Obama limped into the general election, and McCain came in with it wrapped up months in advance, but yet is losing by a lot right now, what does that say about the product that the GOP is offering America?
It’s because of the issues….and the American people support Obama in the 10 biggest issues…see Rassumussen poll today. Your party doesn’t want to make it about issues, even McCain’s advisors say that. They will smear Obama as much as they can, because they can’t win on the issues. The problem for McCain, and the GOP, is that America is tired of the BS.
But please, keep up your gameplan. It’s certainly helping the dems. Dems have a great shot at the presidency, 6 more senate seats and increasing their numbers in the house. Why….because they are talking about the issues.
Stacking the deck?
Flagstaff (Diary) Monday, October 6th at 11:52PM EST (link)I think we can rest assured that the deck will be stacked against McCain, as was the last one. After all, somebody has to select the people to ask the questions, right?
Last time, he had to spend 1/3 of the debate that was supposed to be dedicated to Foreign Affairs talking about a financial melt-down that the experts didn’t even understand well enough to explain to us. By the time they got around to his preferred topic, a lot of the audience had tuned out.
He’ll just have to work his answers into the presentation somehow.
“The press is so powerful in its image-making role that it can make a criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal.
