So the major continues. “See, we’ve gone over the watershed line of this war. We won Midway. We won North Africa. Stalingrad. The Battle of the Atlantic. Everything changes when you go over the watershed line. The rivers all flow a different direction. It’s as if the force of gravity itself has changed and is now working in our favor. We’ve adjusted to that.”

A Good Question For The McCain/Palin Campaign
BigGator5 (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 11:30AM EST (link)I raise a very good question for the McCain/Palin Campaign. Before the two months are up, it needs to be answered.
Educated (About The Issues Facing Us Today), Dedicated (To Making A Difference), And Highly Motivated (To Getting Things Done)

It's the "Expectations Game"
IL_Glock21 (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 11:35AM EST (link)McCain supporters have always considered this election the Dems’ to lose. Obama supporters have always considered it theirs to win as almost a religious prophecy.
Makes for a much better game as the underdogs while McCain being up in the polls generally for the first time since the Spring has them demoralized.
Will it last? Probably not. But we expect the roller coaster heading towards november and hope to be at the top when the deciding day hits. Meanwhile every dip they hit will be crushing since it shows fallibility in the Messiah who could do no loss.
How do they respond? They make fun of old people and issue another ad that has Obama staring sternly, almost angrily, into the camera saying he is the one for real change.
McCain doesn’t haven’t it won by any means yet. But the Dem habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is once again a bad campaign plan as it was for Iraq.

Adjoran (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 12:30PM EST (link)is a very big if, naturally.
However, can you envision Obama suddenly righting his ship? The guy is reeling, off balance, back on his heels and flailing away at phantoms. He got used to the deferential treatment from the media and his Democratic opponents (including Hillary, who was gentle with the virgin campaigner), and clearly doesn’t like being hit.
In the meantime, his base in the media and the nutroots grow ever more shrill and ridiculous as their hackneyed attempts at smearing McCain and Palin come up empty.
Simultaneously, he must raise about $2 million a day to keep up with McCain’s money (big mistake not taking the public financing, too, as he promised – he thought the well would never dry up), and all accounts show it isn’t going all that well. He’s lost the idealists who thought he was “different” (the morons), and the leftists are feeling betrayed by his tacks to the center, even as he fails to make significant inroads with Hillary’s fund-raising machine.
No, it seems rather too much for poor Barry. As the late humorist H. Allen Smith once vulgarly described a man similarly in a hopeless state of confusion, “He didn’t know whether to fart, or wind his watch.”
If just running for President is too tough for him, it’s a good thing he won’t have to find out how really hard the actual job can be. Don’t worry, Barry: there’s always high demand for a good, experienced community organizer.

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 12:35PM EST (link)Theme; Obama’s out of touch
Fade from black to footage of Vietnam War protests with Bill Ayers statements about bombing the Pentagon, et al.
Bring in statements Obama has made about Ayers and photos of Ayers house where Obama commenced his career.
Narrator voiceover: “Obama may have forgotten the terrorist acts of the Vietnam era; or has he?”
Fade in absentees’ footage of Code Pink protests, et al over text of Obama stating there are “57 states”, 10,000 people were killed by tornadoes in Kansas, he was born as the result of the Selma march (4 years after he was born), Afghan translators were all in Iraq, Iran doesn’t pose a threat to us, etc., etc.
Fade in confused picture of Obama with audio of him stammering (which is most of the time without a teleprompter and never seems to make the MSM footage)
Narrator: “Barack Obama does know how to use a computer. But what else does he know? Can we really trust our future to a man that thinks OBL is text shorthand for Obama Big Lothario?”
(ok so perhaps the last bit was over the top. I suspect lothario would get a million Google hits after that.)
“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson
Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd and Politics
captjamestkirk (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 12:49PM EST (link)I was flipping through the channels early this morning and happened to stop on an old Bugs Bunny cartoon. As I was watching, Elmer Fudd was pointing his shotgun at Bug’s head sticking out oh his rabbit hole. Elmer turned his head for a minute and Bugs was gone, only to see him behind Elmer, sticking a load of dynamite in pants. Obama is reminding me alot lately of Elmer Fudd, clueless and being so focused on Sarah Palin he doesn’t see John McCain behind him filling his drawers with dynamite. I think that John McCains campaign has been run brilliantly up to this point and I hope he keeps it up.

civil truth (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 12:54PM EST (link)However, I’m not sure how successful “copycat” ads are. The other problem is that the original ad gets free coverage and exposure to a larger audience, which may not be the best idea.
However, it could be a good idea to stock up several of these copycat ads in case Obama tries to push this “1982″ meme – then a vigorous retaliatory response will be effective.

Next93 (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 1:02PM EST (link)I’ve seen this phenomenon a lot in the corporate world. People at the director level or higher start to think that they’re God’s gift to the world because they can “manage” when all the factors are in thier favor. They don’t realize that what they’re doing isn’t actually leadership, it’s administration with a little bit of inter-office intrigue thrown in to spice things up. As soon as things start getting rough, the Golden Boys start to fold like cheap lawn chairs.
Obama’s never faced any real adversity, either in politics of in his personal life. I simply don’t think he’s got the stones needed to make it through in rough seas. As his lead narrows, his lack of leadership is going to become very, VERY apparent.
Obama was The One in 2008.
He’ll be a BIGGER one in 2012.
One Day At A Time
jcincy Friday, September 12th at 1:03PM EST (link)I believe we should look at the race one day at a time with confidence tempered by humility.
The Obama campaign has been fragile for the last 6 months. He may have won the nomination, but he never really closed the deal. The fact that Senator Clinton started winning primary after primary, after the press had declared him victor has shaken the democratic party. They are divided and on edge. The slightest aggitation seems to bring a seizure in response.
The McCain camp must remain focused and poised. Despite the efforts of the media to paint Palin as inexperienced and McCain as out of touch watching them interact with the press and with the people I see a different portrait.
Yesterday was a good day for the McCain campaign at ground zero. McCain connected with the ‘man on the street’ and I witnessed the thoughtful statesman lay down his rose in reverence.
Obama appeared distant and aloof. When he tossed his rose, I felt his statement was, “Do I have to do this, grandma? Can’t we just go?”.
Watch the first 45 seconds or so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67a8BYSx2DU&eurl=http://michellemalkin.com/2008/09/11/ground-zero-etiquette-a-tale-of-two-roses/
Watching the Palin interview with Gibson I saw an assured Palin confounding the veteran newsman.
The left’s post interview rhetoric attempts to build a case on policy wonk rhetoric.”Palin didn’t even know what ‘the Bush Doctrine’ was!” Gotcha! I follow current events pretty closely and I had to look up ‘the Bush Doctrine’ on the internet for a definition. I sense that the heartland responded with a yawn.
Using the philosophy of one day at a time, yesterday was a good day.
“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.” — John Jay
Now is when McCain needs to show how he will handle himself in war...
CV_Gas (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 1:06PM EST (link)I firmly believe one of Bush’s major errors in judgment was to try to fight a politically correct war (in Iraq). Maybe he felt it would soften the blow to the media and the left, I don’t know. The thing is, there is nothing politically correct or pretty about war. Wars are ugly, nasty businesses and the way to win them is overwhelmingly. Show the enemy who is boss from day one and don’t even think about letting them think they can sneak in an advantage. The whole issue about the limiting rules of engagement (schools, mosques, etc.) left us to fight the war with one arm tied behind our back. McCain, I believe, needs to learn from this and not let up, not get over confident. There is certainly reason for hope. It also appears the enemy is sensing change is afoot, (though I’m sure not the hopechangehope they were anticipating). Let’s keep at it and keep grinding them into the ground!!!

Same in government; worse in some respects.
Achance (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 1:33PM EST (link)In business, IF you do have some skills and hit a bad patch, you usually have enough authority to actually change course and adapt. That’s not always true with very large organizations, but it is generally true.
In government, and a political campaign works like a government because of the personalities and activities, changing direction is quite literally like pushing a rope. If you don’t have a successful plan going in that anticipates your opponent(s)’s moves or if you misunderstand your adversary’s strategies, it is extremely difficult to adapt.

Why Don't We Hear More About "Left Wing Extremists"?
Spartan4Life (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 2:42PM EST (link)I have grown so tired over the years of the media misusing the term “Right Wing” to describe hard working, church attending, gun owning middle America.
Over the last eight years the Democrat party has made an unprecedented veer to the farthest reaches of their base. I think we need to start letting the American people know who the real extremists are.

She also needs to punch up her answers
Flagstaff (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 11:37PM EST (link)to the earmarks accusations. Point out that the job of a mayor or governor include acquiring some federal funds for local projects. If true, point out that she didn’t ask for “earmarks,” but instead asked for funds to be granted through the existing application process, through her Senators and Congressmen. She almost said that, but wasn’t quite that specific, and she should be.
She would have not been properly representing her constituents if she had instead played the part of Federal watchdog at that time.

mbecker908 (Diary) Saturday, September 13th at 1:23AM EST (link)driving a car into a flooded wash in Phoenix is real close to a felony traffic offense (seriously folks).
