Senator Barack Obama, I know that you want me to hate you.

Well, not me, specifically.

But you want people like me to hate you. That’s why you produce ads like this:

So that when we read reports like this:

McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan – Ted Williams is his hero – but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.

…via Jonah Goldberg, via Hot Air – you hope that when we read that, then hate will then grow in our hearts; and then we might make mistakes. But hatred is fueled by fear; and you are not worth fear.

Revulsion, yes. But revulsion can be cold.

We can be cold.

this is simply disgusting. they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. if i had to guess, their internal polling is looking nasty (see latest WA & NJ polls) so now it’s throwing everything they can in hopes that something will stick.

one thing’s for certain, obama does not represent a new kind of politics. it’s quite old and it looks a lot like a lib dem presidential candidate who is going to be blown out.

Nice job Moe as I hadn’t made it over to NRO today. One would think the dems would just quit opening the door into their nose so often. But, alas, they just can’t help themselves and they step into it every time. Their research department is not in the game.

Great catch, Moe. To paraphrase Cornelius van Til on Romans 1:18, though men continually suppress the truth in unrighteousness, God always, eventually, causes the truth to re-emerge despite their best efforts.

That Obama is dumb enough to do something like this on purpose. Rather, its likely a matter of organizational incompetence. These people can’t check on the obvious (McCain’s handicaps), but they want to run the country?

How stupid is Obama, really?

Adjoran (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 7:40PM EST (link)

I’ve heard all the claims of how smart the guy is, but never seen any real evidence of it. He gives a great speech, but any good actor can do that.

He won’t release his grades from Columbia, and his senior thesis is “missing.” He won’t release his grades from Harvard, either. Obama was Editor of Law Review there, but published not a single signed article – and only one anonymous one, a boilerplate liberal defense of abortion rights.

For 12 years, he’s been a “Constitution Law Professor,” but has never published a single scholarly article.

Who says he’s so smart?

BTW, I’m sure he did not personally write this add or do the fact checking on it. Yet he has repeatedly claimed we should accept his qualifications for President by “how I’ve run my campaign.” Well, looks like he’s running it aground to me.

Buh-bye, Barry! (He would only have been a one-term [or less] President anyway – he’s never held a full time job for as long as three years).

Obama, you are a loser.

From Forbes:

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.

These idiots are lampooning a man because of injuries suffered serving his country. This needs to be shouted everywhere. What goofballs!

Why I think this won't get mentioned by the McCain team

MikeLaughead Friday, September 12th at 8:08PM EST (link)

I have been following this blog somewhat recently and the election for a while, but I had no idea that John McCain had lasting injuries from his time as a POW. As soon as I read this it made me think of Dole. I think people as a whole generally think of someone that has physical handicaps as being weaker and less capable. I know that we shouldn’t but it just happens. If I were McCain’s team I would never ever mention it so as to avoid him looking weak and/or old to voters. They need to see the strong war hero guy. It does suck but I think that’s the honest truth. I hope this doesn’t come off as mean or something. It’s just what occurred to me when I read this.

Question from a liberal

bigtimeliberal Friday, September 12th at 8:22PM EST (link)

I am a very liberal public school teacher…I’m giving you my m.o. up front…but I have a very serious questions and I’d like a real answer.

McCain’s typing ability is irrelevant. If he is handicapped, there are tablet pcs, there are programs that allow you to give audio input for your e-mail…heck I can compose texts and e-mails on my blackberry just by talking, without any typing at all.

McCain being unable to use a computer or e-mail in this day and age is frightening to me.

Why do you defend EVERYTHING he does? Today on the View, he looked into the camera and lied twice about Palin NEVER accepting earmarks as governor…there’s no defense for this. None. I find it very discouraging that anyone can think McCain is somehow an honorable politician. What makes you defend him?

Unable and unwilling are two different things

Jack_Savage (Diary) Friday, September 12th at 8:27PM EST (link)

And the fact that you actually watch “The View” is far more scary to me than McCain not wanting to use a computer.

But to answer your questions, he defended me. That is why I defend him.

tgharris Friday, September 12th at 8:38PM EST (link)

New here, are you? McCain was hardly the favorite of most Conservatives on the Internet

I would have to hear McCain on follow-up to decide whether he lied or not (I doubt he’s that bad a politician, to make such a statement without wiggle room)….

However, since my tummy-tum-tum can’t handle “The View”, I have no context to go by. Or did his hostesses allow him to give any context?

As for defending McCain, he hardly needs any of us to “defend” him. Some do it out of admiration for his service and self sacrifice. Some out of fear of an Obama presidency. And some (like me) for both these reasons, and more.

Much like his 20 years of cluelessness in the pews of a racist church based on Marxist tenets, just because Barry was “present” when this commercial was made doesn’t mean that he actually “approved” its content. That was someone else’s job.

Barry’s entire political life has been spent being “present” and avoiding responsibility for anything and everything – from his community of corrupt pols to his reflexive adherence to his party’s dictates.

He is a devotee of email. He reads his email with his wife and he dictates his responses to her because she is fast on the keyboard. Instead of audio input, his wife helps him. Why do you lie by saying he is unable to use email or a computer. He can, but it is difficult for him physically, so he gets assistance. Nothing wrong with that.

As you can see in the quote above, he is regarded the Senate’s savviest technologist.

POTUS doesn't have to be Computer Savvy

that’s why he has a cabinet. I get 60 to 100 e-mails a day. Imagine how many he must get now,in just one account let alone the many other accounts he must have.

Give me a break, not everyone is computer savvy. I can pound the keys but that’s about it. Honestly if I wanted to know more I would learn and do learn new stuff if I want to do different things. My keyboard skills are lame(as my kid says) but I manage. This just shows how desparate they are . If, as you say, “McCain being unable to use a computer or e-mail in this day and age is frightening to me,” then how frightening is it that someone who wants to be our president knows how to send an e-mail…but not how to do a Google search?

After putting Team Obama’s best and brightest minds to the task of figuring out how they can position Barry as better qualified than McCain, they came up with the fact that Obama can type. Excellent!

The Presidency of the United States is not a data-entry position.

What’s more remarkable about this ad than its possible slight against McCain’s handicap, actually, is what totally idiotic politics it is.

Millions of Americans don’t email, surf the web, or consider using computers central to their existence.

Does the Obama campaign really feel like they need to shore up their support among tech-nerds who sip lattes over their laptops while keeping up with the latest Kos diaries?

What the hell are they thinking? Aren’t they supposed to be targeting Florida’s elderly and Michigan and Ohio’s blue-collar independents at this stage of the game?

This ad is nothing but hipster snobbery against the elderly and those who don’t make computers the center of their lives. It’s just incredibly stupid politics.

JaGuAr3529 Saturday, September 13th at 5:14AM EST (link)

This ad intends to paint McCain as out of touch, and while I agree with that, it’s horribly ineffective in getting its message across.

Most of you are harping on the first half of the ad in which it is said that McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer. While it’s obvious that computer savvy has nothing to do with being able to lead our country, it’s baseless to suggest that the Obama campaign is mocking McCain’s war injuries.

The second half of the ad shows more promise by sticking to the issues. I question McCain’s knowledge of the economy, and I question the decision to continue the same economic policies that have put our economy in such a rut.

Ultimately though, this ad sucks. It’s not hard-hitting, and it comes off as amateurish.

But please, cool it with the POW card.

I found this about why John McCain does not use a computer. Obama is losing it and his campaign keeps screwing up.

McCain’s lack of computer skills to the fact that he’s disabled. The Obama camp is banking on that. I don’t see this ad backfiring on Obama, but I also predict that it will have little effect on McCain.

I thought the ad was implying...

pointguard Saturday, September 13th at 11:39AM EST (link)

…that McCain was out of touch with Americans by being unwilling to use a computer, not stupid. An ad about McCain’s intelligence would probably be completely different, except for being silly and irrelevant.

Jack_Savage (Diary) Saturday, September 13th at 4:41PM EST (link)

My use of the term “unable” was a response to the foul spirit of the ad, which implies that McCain is either too dumb or too out of touch to use a computer. He is indeed physically unable to use a computer because of his wartime injuries.

My use of the term “unwilling” is a response to the troll suggesting that McCain avail himself of certain pain in the ass technologies that would allow him to use a computer himself. He probably said, as I would, “screw that”.

I don’t know why he’s not playing up the combat aviator thing, because I am impressed. You can’t beat flying a fighter jet for total supreme outer limits of coolness.

Beyond that, I think the Obama ad is anti-family. Obama is teaching young people to feel superior to their parents and their grandparents. I think Bush has been divisive (e.g., ‘he’s a Massachusetts liberal’). But not even Bush tried to sow divisions within families. In short, Obama stinks!
