Tell you truthful, I was kind of joking when I wrote the bit about LARPing. But…
But…
But…

Words fail me.

PS: Well, not quite. We’ve heard the pushback on Barackopolis 1.0, to the general gist that Bush’s speech was in an area that more or less had columns. To which I note two things:
1). President Bush did not attempt to recreate either the Parthenon – or, now, apparently, the White House.
2). Even if he had… George W. Bush is the President of the United States of America. Barack Obama is a first-term Senator who got the job because Jack Ryan couldn’t help but show off to a bunch of sex-club enthusiasts that he had Seven of Nine warming his bed. Put another way: the hypothetical Bush would have merely been arrogant. The actual Obama is being hubristic.

OccamsRazor (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 9:14AM EST (link)Yep. Man, that’s clever in a manipulation sorta way.
?? Looks like a nice stage
rguyshipe Thursday, August 28th at 9:18AM EST (link)I don’t understand the point of attacking this stage. I guess I’m missing the point.
It's a matter of assumption
Raven (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 9:28AM EST (link)Like his “Presidential” Seal.
He is assuming he’s already been elected. This is what got Hillary in trouble in the Primary and now Barack seems to think he can get away with it in the General.
“If you do not have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.”
Luke 22:36
Honestly it looks fine now
mcg Thursday, August 28th at 9:30AM EST (link)This is the best shot of the stage I’ve seen yet, and with the “window” treatments in place it really does NOT look like a Greek temple as reported by ABC News and Reuters. When I saw the first picture on Drudge I thought it looked like the Lincoln Memorial (which is a Greek temple design, actually) but this looks classier. Anyway, if this had been the first shot I had seen, or anyone had reported on, I don’t think we would have had all of this fun

It's all stagecraft
woodsman (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 9:35AM EST (link)intended to get people thinking of him [BHO] in terms of being President. To me it’s presumptive and arrogant, but then we already knew that.
It should be Bigger!
Maggie_in_Indiana (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 9:49AM EST (link)More pillars! Flowing curtains, loud booming music,a rising podium, flashing lights, with fireworks at the end, this is great! It’s RockObama!
The tickets are going for $1000. That ought to let the folks know he is not in touch and is all flash and fancy speeches. This is getting a lot of press. The liberals are so funny. Laughable in every sense. He hates to be laughed at and criticized,so go for it.
Fox just made the point that the green convention is using a lot of energy for this show. Energy Hogs!

Darin_H (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 10:55AM EST (link)desecrating Mile High like this. Thank God that the old Mile High is no longer, that would have been sacrilegious.

I would like to reinforce the American Idol theme here
Brian Simpson (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 11:03AM EST (link)The stage was designed by the Britney Spears team.
That’ll kill the celebrity theme.

This is shameful
fedupppp Thursday, August 28th at 11:22AM EST (link)The Dems say they are for the middle to lower class, yet they build this grand stage for the American people (a type of visual brain wash) to picture Obama in the White House. What I see is a Greek or Roman aristocratic empire. The American people are fed up with our government for this reason. The change America is looking for is a government that remembers they are public servents. As history has depicted in the past, all aristocratic empires eventually fall.
Dionysus would be honored, Obama
Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 11:23AM EST (link)I suspect the event will start with the traditional dithyramb and move to having the main hypokrite to present his satyr. We have already had the three preceding trilogies; Michelle, Bill and Hill that rival the Oresteia. This will of course all be brought to conclusion with a final epode, where the attendees (by the way, how did they fill a 60,000 seat stadium, who got tickets and where did they come from?) where the participants become delusional on the generous drink of derision elicited from so called oratorical perfection.
By the way, should it be the White House, I am fairly certain that Pierre Charles L’Enfant just rolled over in his grave and George Washington hurled on his shoes.
“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson
Toga! Toga! Toga!
redneck_hippie (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 11:43AM EST (link)The temple is part of the image campaign to appeal to the Pagan base.
Team O has tried to distance themselves from the Farakhan-Wright-Fleger base–this base became too nuclear. The masses do not connect with half-baked Marxist quasi-religious leaders, period.
Going for the Pagan vote was a stroke. I viewed a video today of some talking head saying that Barack being accused of elitism proves that there is racial equity now (paraphrasing). The talking head specifically used the term “Patrician” which dovetails perfectly with that ancient pagans appeal.
Pagans tend to have more than one god at a time, though, so Team O may need to retool to retain their “One” image.

jeffmacguy (Diary) Thursday, August 28th at 5:50PM EST (link)I know this can’t be possible, but I heard that someone saw a sheet with these lyrics being printed to be passed out for the assembled masses. Surely they wouldn’t go THIS far:
Nope!
