Demographics is not Israel’s best friend these days. The arguments over who has the best claim to the land will become a moot point as the Jews are out-populated by those that wish their destruction. With Iran getting closer to a nuke and the Palestinians swelling with population, times are getting more and more dangerous for our Israeli friends. Perhaps the time has come for Israel to abandon ship.
My solution would be to offer a window of unrestricted immigration to the US. This would benefit us as a large amount of wealth and industry are transfered to our shores, and it would benefit the Israelis by helping them get the he|| out of dodge with their assets as intact as possible.
Obviously this would not sit well with those who want to rebuild the temple, and I can’t speak to the Jewish desire to do so. But for those Christians who are encouraging Israel to stay put and help bring about the end times, I say this: Time to go back and re-read Matthew! Your misinterpretation of “End Times” is not only paramount to calling Jesus a false prophet, but it’s extremely dangerous to our friends in Israel.
If you read Matthew carefully, and look at your history books, you’ll see that all the “end times” prophecies that Jesus made have long since been fulfilled. The modern state of Israel has nothing to do with prophecy. The modern state of Israel has to do with Jews being able to protect themselves from harm, and I suggest to you that with the growing threat from their sworn enemies, the protection of the Jewish people might be more effectively accomplished here in the new world.

Makes more sense for us to abandon the U.S. and move to Israel
civil truth (Diary) Thursday, March 5th at 2:06PM EST (link)With the current trend line of American politics, America is in more imminent danger of losing it’s identity as a free republic than is the threat toIsrael from internal demographics.
Sorry, but my support and that of most conservatives for Israel is not based on a certain school of interpretation of Biblical prophecy – but rather because it is in our national interests.
And if what you wrote here is what you really think about American conservatives, then I smell whale blubber.

MNConservative (Diary) Thursday, March 5th at 2:18PM EST (link)I’m not sure where I said what I think about American conservatives… myself being solidly in that camp. I DID mention the beliefs of many of my Christian brothers, who seem to think that Israel is playing a role in End Times.
This diary grew out of something I read at jpost this morning. I don’t know if you’ve ever read the comments there, but they’re typically full of Christians proclaiming that God will protect Israel no matter what. Makes me crazy.
Your transition between paragraphs 2 and 3 was too abrupt
civil truth (Diary) Thursday, March 5th at 2:38PM EST (link)Which made the your post sound like what a dKos denizen would think a conservative believes.
Anyone seriously following Israel recognizes the demographic bomb, and the Israelis themselves have been long aware of this, though they are divided on the way to address it, which has paralyzed taking appropriate action.
That said, I don’t see that depopulating Israel of Jews and turning it over the the Palestinians is a reasonable policity. Of course if, God forbid, the U.S. abandons Israel and Israel falls without genocide, we may need to face a resettlement question.
And yes, I consider it dangerously simplistic to base defense policy on a fatuous exegesis of Revelation. But I think people in Israel are far more likely to go along with Tom Lehrer:

So with this thesis as your base, I guess we all have to leave the USA as well...... Not just the Jews, but all Americans.
Kenny Solomon (Diary) Thursday, March 5th at 2:36PM EST (link)I’ll start off with a question: If somebody was threatening your home, you’d up and leave with your family, surrendering all you’ve worked to build (and I don’t mean just materially either) ?
For well over 5,000 years, lunatics have been trying to eliminate my people. Unless I missed something along the way and I am literally the last Jew on the planet, none of the attempts have succeeded.
A mere pittance of that time – a bit over the last 200 years – has The United States steadfastly as a protector and defender of Israel without directly becoming involved in any military action.
Now, comes the suggestion that a people as a whole should vacate the land described as theirs in some little-known seldom-read book called “The Bible”.
As far as The USA is concerned, we’re under direct assault from two fronts and a constant declared threat from a third.
The two active frontal assaults are first and foremost from our own government in the form of the current administration – literally usurping and declaring null and void chunks of The Constitution and Bill Of Rights.
A second front is actually military in nature, but will not be addressed as such – The Southern Border with Mexico. We are physically being invaded and American citizens are being kidnapped and killed, with almost a zero amount of addressing by anyone.
The declared threat, of course, is from the peace-loving religion of Islam, who wants us all dead or completely subjugated (without question, dead is more of their liking though).
To close the circle then, your inevitable conclusion should be for every American to vacate The United States.
Am I correct in this simple reasoned deduction ?
Here’s a hint for you, my friend in Minnesota: To my last breath, I will defend my freedom, my rights, my life, my home, my people and my homeland. I am an American born and raised. I am Jewish by heritage.
The Muslims can try and they may eventually take me, as they will not stop until the last of my faith are exterminated. But when the time comes and at my hand, many of these animals will meet their so-called God Of Peace – who will not accept them.
As for our own government: They know well that continually poking the lion has dire consequences for everyone involved, especially the power-mad lion tamers. But I believe this is their goal and a means to completely seize the reigns….. incite the dissenters to action and I fear that it is no longer a matter of if, but when….When the merde encounters the ventillateur here in The USA.
Thing is, the Fascists know not what they will unleash upon themselves in the form of freedom’s arrow.
I am not alone. There are tens of millions more of me who will not cower in the dark and accept what is being forced upon our nation and people.

If we turn our backs on Israel, I expect them to go rogue. There’s very little standing in the way, holding them back at this point when the U.N. constantly harps on what Israel does and almost nothing about what has been done to it.

They believe that they are more economically secured and feel more protected and safer in Israel than in Arab countries. How will we put that into the overall equation?

navychick1993 Thursday, March 5th at 5:00PM EST (link)That you would call for the Jews of Israel to flee their homeland. As for your comment “God has kept Israel”, what do you mean by that? I know many Christians who have bought into the Tim LaHaye version of End Times. They seem to think that modern Israel under the special protection of God and will pull through no matter what. ASSETS?????? Do you really think his is about ASSETS??????
That attitude is thoroughly mercenary and reprehensible – and it’s exactly that type of attitude that brings about the destruction of any civilization – not just the current situation.
When did what is least expensive become what is right?
When did human rights, history, and heritage become an expendable asset?
Should we dis-assemble the Wailing Wall and have it re-assembled somewhere in the heart of Kansas? Then, since people would want to see it… sell tickets to it? After all..that becomes TAXABLE INCOME. Wow!! another asset!!

How could anyone call that “assets in tact?”

MNConservative (Diary) Friday, March 6th at 8:30AM EST (link)since my “reply to this” buttons aren’t working…
First to Mr. Solomon: I completely understand your sentiment. However, the circumstances here in the States are different from the circumstances in Israel. Israel is literally surrounded by a people who hate Jews, who are out-populating them, and who are rushing headlong into nuke power status. While every effort should be made to ensure the security of the Jewish State, we also have to come to terms with demographic realities. Emmigration only helps for so long.
To weenejunk: Matthew 24:34. Jesus clearly states that the generation he was talking to would not pass away until “all these things have happened.” Matthew 24 is thought by many to describe future events, but it really describes what happened leading up to the destruction of the Temple in AD70. All of Jesus’s prophecies were fulfilled. The current state of Israel has nothing to do with prophecy, and everything to do with the ability of the Jewish people to defend themselves. Unfortunately I know many who “support” Israel because they think Israel is ordained by God to play a role in End Times, when we really should be supporting Israel because they’re a good ally.
To Janiel: Wow. All I am suggesting is that it might be better for them to evacuate ahead of time instead of being forced out or killed. I would not be opposed to carving out an independent homeland here, but figured that might be over the top for some of you. This isn’t about getting ahold of their assets, it’s about helping them preserve as much of what they’ve created as possible. I take offense that you twist my words and infer evil intent. Shame on you! I know this is a difficult and emotional topic, but there is no need to descend into ad-hominem attacks. Sometimes we need to step back and look at the situation pragmatically.

Uhh..like where? Idaho? Nevada? hey.. there’s desert there! Maybe we can buy one of the pyramids and plant it somewhere in the desert, get the Hollywood set designers to recreate some old city sets and turn it into a Biblical Disney World. I can surely see Las Vegas as the holy equivalent of the six thousand year history of Jerusalem.
Just picture the school field trips:
“And here, children, is where Moses, stood on Casino Sinai (built by Donal Trump and brought to you by Coca-Cola), and received the Ten Commandments (not in stone – but in poker chips!!). And while he was before the Burning Bush (seen in HDTV by Dish Network on a state-of the -art SONY 105 inch screen with surround sound) receiving the divine law, the Children of G-d were misbehaving, betting on craps, roulette, and blackjack, and building an idol by melting down the riches they received from slot machines. They watched lascivious showgirls in stage shows. They fed themselves on unclean meats (called all-you-can-eat Mongolian Barbeque),and engaged in all kinds of lewd physical activities.(driving quickly past the topless bars and hotels with “hourly rates”)
As their punishment, the Lord forced them to wander in the desert (and adjacent trailer parks) for 40 years (because there was no cell phone tower or GPS service). They survived on manna from heaven (food-stamps) supplied by the ONE who’s name is not spoken ( but his initials are B.O.).
Perhaps…just perhaps, the world could take a lesson from the civilizations that have lasted THOUSANDS of years.
It’s not about saving your ASSets – it’s about preserving our humanity, and our beliefs. Jewish people pay homage to the past in all that we do. Every wedding when the groom steps on a glass, it’s to remember the destruction of the Holy Temple. Every Passover at seder, we read the story and the journey of the Exodus from Egypt and the bondage there, and we give thanks for being liberated. Every Chanukkah we celebrate the freedom fighting Macabees who fought Greek assimilation. You would ask us to give up the last remnants of the most holy symbols of a nearly SIX THOUSAND year old civilization? You would as us to walk away from the Wailing Wall, from the tomb of Sarah? You would ask us to abandon Mount Sinai, where Divine Law was bestowed upon mankind?
Why? Because it’s not convenient?
Take a good look at the oldest civilizations on this planet… and you will find that they have tangible connections to their history and that go back thousands of years.
Monetary assets come and go, but the most important assets a Jewish person has, is his/her belief in ONE G-d, his/her heritage, and his/her education. Perhaps the reason that the Jewish religion and culture have lasted so long, is that we VALUE these spiritually historical sites and symbols. They keep us connected to those who came before us and all they have done to preserve our beliefs. They are a tangible tether we hold onto – when the rest of the world tries to deny us and rewrite history. It’s the connections to the past and to each other that have kept us alive through history.
The moment you try to just pick us up and transplant us and destroy all we hold as sacred, you have fundamentally destroyed who we are. We have all seen those who try to deny the holocaust even in the face of film taken by liberating soldiers, and films by Nazis themselves who were proud of what they were doing.
Now those who seek to take the land you want us vacate, will destroy our history, and then re-write it to serve their own purposes, and by your very suggestion that we “get the he|| out of dodge,” you are asking us to let it happen.
Tell ya what?? why don’t we “carve out an independent homeland here” for the Palestinians????
We could build a few cities, and for their privacy, put some big walls around it….have some guards to keep every one safe….
Isarel and Israelis aren't going anywhere thank you very much. And your demographics lesson is also feeble.
red_oakster (Diary) Friday, March 6th at 10:27AM EST (link)Israel and Israelis are ready to do what it takes to defend their country and themselves. They are not going to run away. What a pathetic suggestion.
Second, the demographics are not nearly as dire as you suggest. Israeli population growth is accelerating, while both Palestinian and Israeli Arab population growth are slowing down. And one of the little secrets of the intifada since 2000 is that there has been a major Palestinian EMIGRATION. It’s not acknowledged because the myth of inevitable demographic advantage and population-tabulated foreign aid are too painful to surrender. But it does not make it any less true.
Second, Israel has never attempted to annex the major Arab population centers in the disputed territories Israel captured in 1967. And it never will. To talk as if all population between the Jordan and the Mediterranean is some sort of definitive statistic is just nonsense.
Israel always has been surrounded by enemies and has a relatively small population (although much bigger and growing more than ever before). So yes it has to stop Iran from going nuclear and weaken Iran’s proxies in Gaza and southern Lebanon. But let’s not forget that Israel also has long-term advantages. It can defend itself and its economy and military wil grow in strength and not weaken over the long term. Syria’s regime is a basket case and can’t last forever. Iraq is now a barrier rather than a participant in the subversion of the Hashemite monarchy. Jordan and Egypt left to their own devices prefer peace (albeit a cold one) to their war footing of 1948-1977. Iran is the key, and it’s another regime whose hold on power is far from assured. It’s not the worst situation fora nation willing and able to defend itself. And as the last election made clear, Israel is willing.
Israel and the Jewish people have faced long odds for several millenia. Please understand if they choose to pass on your obituary.
Israel belongs to the people and your STUPID suggestion...

(Israel National News.com) The Obama administration has made plans to strengthen the emerging Palestinian Authority army that is currently being trained at an American-built base in Jordan.

American and Fatah officials are hoping the “special force” will fight terror and keep the rival Hamas faction at bay. The Hamas terrorist militia completely overwhelmed the rival Fatah loyalists in Gaza in June, 2007, surprising American military personnel who already had begun training the Fatah forces.

Clinton Wants To Include Iran In Afghanistan Talks
Kenny Solomon (Diary) Friday, March 6th at 10:26PM EST (link)NY Times…….. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/06/world/06diplo.html
Setting up the prospect of its first face-to-face encounter with Iran, the Obama administration has proposed a major conference on Afghanistan this month that would include Iran among the invited countries, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday.
“We presented the idea of what is being called a big-tent meeting, with all the parties who have a stake and an interest in Afghanistan,” she said at a news conference here after a meeting of NATO foreign ministers. “If we move forward with such a meeting, it is expected that Iran would be invited, as a neighbor of Afghanistan.”

Mrs. Clinton said this week that Iran could play a useful role in stabilizing Afghanistan, noting that its officials consulted regularly with the United States in the early days of the war to oust the Taliban in 2001.

What’s next? Israel empties out for the convenience of radical Islam. Is Rome next? Amsterdam? Copenhagen? London?
Will the Atlantic keep Islam away? Or will you be facing Mecca 5 times a day?
If we want to talk practicality, here’s something practical: Israel should nuke Mecca. No more pilgrimages for Muslims without glowing in the dark as an aftereffect. Problem solved.
Would that be right, in your world view?
Like it or not, the fact is that there is a line drawn in the sand between radical Islam and the rest of us. And unfortunately for Israel and her citizens, they are that line.
If we (meaning western civilization) don’t hold that line, we are doomed. Read the Koran.
Israel is the best ally the USA has — the ONLY unconditional one we have. We’d be utterly faithless to desert Israel to the hordes seeking her destruction. If we do so, any Biblical prophecies aside, we will deserve what we get.

They keep telling us that it isn’t about “stolen land,” and that land concessions and even the creation of a Palestinian state will not end the conflict. And we keep refusing to believe it.
“Egyptian Cleric Muhammad Hussein Ya’qoub: The Jews Are the Enemies of Muslims Regardless of the Occupation of Palestine,” from MEMRI TV (a paid-subscription website tracking Al-Jazeera and other major Muslim media outlets).
Following are excerpts from a speech delivered by Egyptian cleric Muhammad Hussein Ya’qoub, which aired on Al-Rahma TV on January 17, 2009.
Muhammad Hussein Ya’qoub: If the Jews left Palestine to us, would we start loving them? Of course not. We will never love them. Absolutely not. The Jews are infidels – not because I say so, and not because they are killing Muslims, but because Allah said: “The Jews say that Uzair is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that Christ is the son of Allah. These are the words from their mouths. They imitate the sayings of the disbelievers before. May Allah fight them. How deluded they are.” It is Allah who said that they are infidels.
That’s Qur’an 9:30.
Your belief regarding the Jews should be, first, that they are infidels, and second, that they are enemies. They are enemies not because they occupied Palestine. They would have been enemies even if they did not occupy a thing. Allah said: “You shall find the strongest men in enmity to the disbelievers [sic] to be the Jews and the polytheists.”
