The shootings in Arizona were tragic. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the families that are suffering because of that terrible situation. The young shooter is obviously a mentally disturbed individual. However, as we are all aware, the wingnuts on the left were quick to point fingers at conservative pundits and politicians as being the cause of the tragedy. As the truth has leaked out it is becoming clear that if young Mr. Loughner has any political leanings at all, they are to the extreme left. This got me to thinking and helped me to realize that liberalism itself should be deemed a mental illness. The following are examples that illustrate my point.

If you think that animals have rights but innocent unborn babies do not, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you have ever voted for Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Bernie Sanders, Alan Grayson or anyone remotely similar, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you believe that a simple object such as a wooden chair needs a designer/creator to exist but our complicated world and universe do not, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think its wrong for a hunter to legally harvest a game animal by humane methods but it’s okay to starve and dehydrate a helpless woman just because she has grown burdensome to her miscreant husband, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that disarming law abiding citizens is the proper way to prevent crime, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that hardcore, mind altering, highly addictive narcotics should be legal but Big Macs should not, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that Al Sharpton is a good role model for our African-American youth but Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice are not, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that Dick Cheney is evil incarnate but Fidel Castro is just misunderstood, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think it’s okay to punish the achievers of society with high, punitive taxes so that the slackers of society can be rewarded, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you have ever taken anything spoken by Al Gore seriously, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that an island will tip over if it has too many people on it, ya’ gotta be a democrat and ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that Sarah Palin is more dangerous to our country than AL Queda, ya’ gotta be crazy.

If you think that Dick Cheney accidentally shooting a man on a hunting trip is worse than Ted Kennedy drowning a pregnant girl, ya’ gotta be crazy.

I’m not an attorney (thank goodness) but I believe that I have made a compelling argument that liberalism is indeed a mental illness. As Bill Cosby once said, “All children are braindead until the age of 18. Then some grow out of it and some don’t.” Liberals are obviously the ones who do not.

I realize that the Washington elites could care less what a common man thinks but our Tea Party movement is forcing them to listen. So while we have their ear, I wish to express the things I would like to see in a new and improved Contract with America. I truly believe, if followed, these precepts would help in returning our nation to the greatness it once had.

Item #1: Let’s bring God back into the public square. In this regard our Constitution has been badly misinterpreted. It’s true that there is a provision for separation of church and state, but that provision was put into place so that there would not be a government formed church such as the Church of England and so that no one’s freedom to worship would be infringed upon. It did not mean that God was to be taken completely out of mainstream society. If atheists do not believe in God, why are they so offended when someone mentions Him or prays to Him. Would they be as offended if we put up a public display honoring the Tooth Fairy? I doubt that their nonbelief is as strong as they claim. There has to be some belief for them to be so afraid of His mere mention.

Item #2: Let’s reorganize and significantly reduce the size of the federal government. The feds have their hands and noses in areas where they do not belong. Our federal government is bloated, badly mismanaged and too full of overpaid and underqualified bureaucrats. The Department of Education should be done away with. Education concerns should be handled at the state and local level. In a perfect world all schools should be privatized but of course we know that will never happen. Other unnecessary departments such as Health and Human Services and Housing and Urban Development should go bye-bye. They’re not needed, and they waste a lot of taxpayer money. Federally run money-pits such as the U.S. Postal Service and Amtrak should be privatized. If they can’t compete in the open marketplace, they should go away. We need to seriously trim the fat in Washington.

Item #2A (it goes hand in hand with #2) : We’ve got to greatly reduce government waste and spending. Each dollar that is spent by the government should be closely scrutinized. Any spending that isn’t absolutely necessary for the government to carry out its constitutional mandates should be stopped. People in government talk about billions of dollars like they’re talking about pocket change. Now trillions are creeping into the conversation in a similar way. It’s ridiculous. Our government funds the most ludicrous and nonsensical studies that anyone can imagine. Who cares how cocaine affects the sex lives of monkeys? And why do we fund so-called artists that can’t make a living on their own with their art? If you ask me, art can be their hobby, and they can get a day job like the rest of us. We shouldn’t have to send our hardearned money to Washington so deadbeats can pee in a bottle containing a crucifix and call it art. It’s time that we force more people to be contributors to society so that we can reduce the rolls of the drainers of society. The bottom line is we need a Balanced Budget Amendment. It’s time for the government to live within its means like the rest of us.

Item #3: We need to revamp our income tax system. The current system is complicated and completely unfair. It punishes the achievers and rewards the underachievers. We need to adopt a flat tax or go with the fair tax. I prefer a flat tax system but the fair tax seems to be gaining momentum at this time. Either would be much better than what we currently have. It would allow us to do away with at least 90% of the monstrosity that is the IRS. It would be more fair for all citizens, and it would generate more tax revenue. Also, the capital gains tax rates should be greatly reduced. People would be astonished at the economic stimulus and jobs which would be created if this occurred. Our government would have more than enough tax money to meet their needs.

Item #4: Our borders must be secured. Every day our nation is being invaded, and our government cannot or will not do anything about it. How can we feel safe when our borders are so wide open? If we can’t keep out poor Mexican peasants then how can we keep out sophisticated terrorists and drug cartels? And the answer is, we can’t. A nation that cannot control its borders certainly cannot adequately defend and protect its citizens. We should do whatever is necessary. Build walls, build fences, build barriers, beef up the Border Patrol and use the National Guard if necessary. This is one area where tax money can be wisely spent. Immigration reform shouldn’t even be discussed until our borders are secure.

Item #5: We must pursue energy independence. Dependence on foreign oil cripples our national security and economy. We should significantly increase our drilling for domestic oil. We should better utilize natural gas which we have in abundance. We should pursue building efficient and safe nuclear power plants. We should take advantage of the new clean coal technologies. We have vast supplies of coal. We should utilize wind and solar technology as clean energy supplements. We need to build more oil refineries. And we need to conserve energy whenever and whereever possible. With a little resolve, energy independence is an easily obtainable goal.

Item #6: America needs trade agreements which are fair to American companies and American workers. I know many of my conservative brethren will disagree with me on this but all free trade agreements are not the same. Free trade agreements with nations that have a similar standard of living such as with Canada or Western Europe are fine. But free trade agreements with third world countries is ridiculous. Why would a factory owner pay $10.00 an hour in the U.S. when he can pay less than a dollar an hour in Mexico? And the answer is, he wouldn’t. NAFTA completely destroyed the textile industry in the south and took a lot of people’s livelihoods away. They weren’t great jobs but many people depended on them, and some have had difficulty in retooling and recovering. I know some of them. Plus, NAFTA has allowed illegal narcotics to cross our borders unchecked by the ton. I’m for free trade but it also has to be fair trade with common everday horsesense mixed in.

Item #7: We need common sense tort reform in this country. Trial lawyers have way too much power and influence in our society. Tort reform would be one of the easier problems to fix. We don’t need caps on awards. We don’t need complicated negotiated settlements. All we need is a loser pays system. Under this system you can still sue anyone for anything and for any amount. But if you lose, you would be liable for all costs which would include your lawyer fees, the defendant’s lawyer fees and all court costs. This system would immediately do away with all frivolous lawsuits and would unclog our court system better than liquid plumber.

Item #8: We need term limits for all elected offices at all levels of government. This is another area in which many of my fellow conservatives will disagree, but I don’t care. I’m right, they’re wrong. Too often elected officials forget that their office or seat belongs to the people and not them. That is the very reason why we have an elitist ruling class in Washington that is appalled at our grassroots tea party movement. And the elitist have R behind their names almost as often as they have a D. Semipermanent government officials often ignore the will of the people and pursue their own personal agendas. Once they have been in office for a certain time, they have enough money, power and influence to hold it indefinitely. It’s time our elected officials are made to realize that they serve the people at the people’s convenience. It’s time that we truly make it once more a government of the people by the people and for the people. Hopefully, November 2nd will be a big first step in that direction.

Item #9: I have listed this last but it certainly is not least. We need to do whatever is necessary to make certain that we have the best paid, the best equiped, the best trained and most technologically advanced military anywhere in the world. And we should always give our military men and women our undying love and support.

racism

The first thing I wish to mention is how we’re told that we’re suppose to be tolerant of the great religion of Islam. The progressive mainstream media abhors all religions except Islam which is their darling. It’s ironic because the progressives are all for gay marriage but Islamic nations support the death penalty for homosexuality. Supposedly, the progressives are for women’s rights (liberal women only) but in Islamic societies women are less than second-class citizens and can be stoned/murdered at the whim of their husbands or fathers for any real or imagined act that supposedly brings dishonor on the family. Muslims routinely kill and terrorize believers of other faiths. Islam is the most intolerant religion in the world, and we’re suppose to walk on eggshells to be tolerant and nonoffensive to them. Yeah, right.

The next thing I wish to bring up is the race card. Without a doubt, racism exists in the world and always will from all ethnicities but great strides have been made in our country to improve race relations. Many still claim that the U.S. is a racist nation but let’s look at the facts. Who is the most beloved TV celebrity? By all accounts it’s Oprah Winfrey, a black lady. Who was the most popular sitcom actor of all time? Everything you read or hear indicates that it is Bill Cosby, a black man. Which two athletes make more endorsement money than all the rest combined? Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods, both black men. And who is our president? Of course we all know that it’s Barack Obama, another black man. Those facts are pretty good for a racist country, wouldn’t you say? But these days you can’t oppose anyone from certain minorities on anything without being labled a racist. You can’t disagree with them on principle or criticize them with or without merit without being labeled a racist. I’m sick of it. At one time the goal was to have a colorblind society but that is the last thing the progressives want because they love having that race card to play.

Next on my agenda is political correctness. In our modern world many people walk around with their feelings on their sleeves just waiting for the smallest of things to be said or done so that they can claim to be offended. Give me a break. My advice to these people is get a life. Political correctness is so out of hand that it’s ridiculous. These days your not suppose to call a terrorist a terrorist. (See the Fort Hood shooting.) Political correctness is putting innocent lives in danger. When you go through airport security you see senior citizens with walkers and eight year olds getting stripped searched but recently a known terrorist who was on the cannot fly list with a one-way ticket was allowed to go straight to the airplane where he was finally apprehended just before takeoff. Political correctness has taken away one of the most useful security tools we have which is profiling. This cancer needs to be removed from our society before more innocent lives are lost unnecessarily. I have always been told that actions speak louder than words. With that being said, my advice is to observe how people live their lives and quit worrying so much about the words they use. They will demonstrate their true character or lack thereof.

The last thing I wish to mention in this posting (but it’s not the last thing that chaps my a**) is free speech. Progressives are all for free speech when it applies to bashing Christians or burning Old Glory or when some assinine idiot comes up with a blasphemous or pornographic “art” exhibit. But when someone has the audacity to disagree with them or to criticize one of their darlings or to expose them for the fraudulent fools they are, they’re not so much for free speech. They always try to shut that dissent down. I’m not for burning the Koran or any religious book for that matter but where would the outcry be if some nutjob was planning a burning of the Holy Bible. We all know that there wouldn’t be any in the mainstream press. That would be perfectly okay to them. Freedom of speech means freedom of speech. Many brave men and women have fought and many have died to protect that precious freedom. We must not let the progressives bastardize it to fit their warped agenda.

Our current president and his administration are either the most inept governing group that we have ever had or they are extreme idealogues that are willing to severely damage our great nation in order to reshape the world as they see fit. I personally believe it’s mostly the latter with a little of the former in the mix. Let’s take a look at some recent examples which demonstrate my point.

Our national southern border is a complete cluster-you-know-what. It’s common knowledge. Scores of undocumented illegal aliens pour across the border each day. Violent drug gangs and cartels are killing and mutilating people. They terrorize citizens on both sides of the border. Several American law enforcement officers along with innocent good-samaritan citizens have been gunned down by these thugs. Phoenix is second only to Mexico City for kidnappings in the world. Several reports have recently surfaced which state that the Middle-Eastern terrorist group Hezbollah have established bases in Mexico near our border. Apparently, they are getting their piece of the pie in narcotic sales. The sale of heroin is a major fundraiser for them. Our border is wide open for terror cells to enter at their convenience. The border states have been begging for help with the problem for quite some time but their requests have fell on deaf ears. Finally, the state of Arizona decided to take the bull by the horns themselves to help stem the flow. Instead of offering their support, the Obama administration, led by Attorney General Eric Holder, set out to demonize the state, and now they have filed a frivolous lawsuit against Arizona. Most constitutional scholars that I have heard opine on the subject agree that the federal government’s case is extremely weak. Adding insult to injury, President Obama recently told Arizona Senator John Kyl that he would not work to close the border until the Republicans agreed to support him in immigration reform and amnesty for illegal aliens already in the country. Any sane person with one iota of common sense knows that if you offer amnesty prior to closing the border, it will look like the Oklahoma land rush coming north over the border. Apparently, our president is more than willing to play politics with our national security in order to create another large automatic voting bloc for the Democratic Party. In my opinion, we should suspend all immigration until we get our national financial health restored.

Eighty plus days ago a deep-water oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico near Louisiana. Eleven people tragically lost their lives as they worked hard to earn an honest living. A portal of gushing crude was unleashed. Millions of gallons of oil has severely damaged the gulf and its surrounding ecosystems. The federal government threw out the anchor and drug its feet in a delayed response to the disaster. Officials of the state of Louisiana became frustrated with the delay and started seeking their own solutions to the problem at hand. Not only did the federal government not take action, they then blocked Louisiana from implementing their plans. The federal bureaucracy with its red tape swooped in to spoil the day as usual. But that is not the entire story. Then several oil producing nations offered their equipment and expertise to help with the situation. And until just recently, our government inexplicably refused the help. Also, much needed oil skimmers sit idle in other coastal areas where they are not currently needed but the government refuses to send them to the gulf coast because there possibly could be a future oil spill where they’re located. That would be like a citizen phoning the police because his home is currently be burglarized. The police tell him they can’t send officers because there might be break-ins in the areas where the officers are currently located. It makes no sense at all. But very little about the federal government does make sense. And that’s why we need to shrink it, not grow it. The gulf coast is devastated. The fishing/seafood industry and tourism are reeling from the major body blow. Many lives and livelihoods have been destroyed or are on the verge of destruction, and our government is proving to be more the problem than the solution. Conspiracy theorists have surmised that the president is punishing the gulf coast area for not supporting him in the election. I don’t necessarily subscribe to this theory but I do believe that he and his administration are attempting to use this tragedy to get their radical energy and environmental policies in place. Remember, never let a tragedy go to waste. That is their motto. And once again, politics trumps the nation’s best interests. It’s the Obama way.

During the 2008 presidential election, two members of the New Black Panther Party stood outside a Philadelphia polling place. They were both dressed in menacing black fatigues, boots and berets. One wielded a nightstick. They made threatening and intimidating statements to the white voters as they approached the polling place. The incident was captured on video. Initially, the Justice Department pursued charges against the men. They decided to not show up for court probably because they were confident the fix was in. The government won a default conviction. But by this time Eric Holder had become the Attorney General. He ordered that the charges be dismissed, and they promptly were. Now a whisteblower has come forward to report that the Holder led Justice Department has internally stated that there will not be investigations or prosecutions in any future matters such as this one when the perpetrators are black and the victims are white. Liberals adore whisteblowers except for when they tell on them. When I ponder this situation, I wonder if this would be pleasing to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others of his ilk. He claimed that he was seeking a fair, color-blind society, and this is institutional racism. As a sidenote, the mainstream media have been conspicuous in their absence on this story. We all know that it would be the top story throughout the land if the racial roles were reversed.

The President has spent until our government is on the verge of bankruptcy, and he wants to spend much more. Socialist leaders at the G-20 Summit even cautioned him on his reckless ways. And now he has told the head of NASA that his top priority is outreach to Muslim nations so they will feel better about themselves, and their supposed contributions to the world. It’s absurd. Like I initially wrote, he is either inept or he is purposely trying to damage our nation and its standing in the world.

The other day I asked an Obama supporter what she expected from this president. She told me that she didn’t expect much from any president but she wanted to make certain that the Supreme Court had enough liberal representation so that Roe v. Wade would not be threatened. Unfortunately, there are too many single issue people in our society. They’re willing to let everything else go to hell in a handbasket as long as they get their way on their pet issue. I’ve got news for these folks, their single issue will be moot if our nation keeps heading down the path that our current president has us on.

We live in a world where a wimpy president that couldn’t bust a grape or crack an egg threatens to kick someone’s behind just to impress Spike Lee. Contrived “bad assness” is sad to watch.

We live in a world where hard work and achievement are punished by excessive taxation.
We live in a world where self esteem in children is all that parents worry about. Good citizenship and respect for others has been tossed out the window.
We live in a world where Dan Quayle was made “dunce for life” because he left the “e” out of potatoes. Now we have a president who stated that he had been to 57 states and still had three more to visit. And we’re told that he is the smartest man to ever inhabit the Oval Office.
The bottom line is that we live in a world where our country is going to hell in the proverbial handbasket. We need to ask ourselves, what are we going to do about it?

Imagine, if you will, you are a hardworking family man. Every scheduled day, you are on the job. You work very hard. When overtime is available, you take it every time. You do everything possible to give your family a good life. One day there is a knock at your door. You answer it. There is an unkempt, disheveled, seemingly healthy young man on your porch. He asks to talk ; You agree to listen. He explains that he doesn’t much care to work. He would much rather get high. And since he has an anemic work ethic, he has difficulty in keeping a job. Thus, he cannot provide for himself and his family. This also leaves him without health insurance. He goes on to tell you that he is seeking donations for him to use to purchase healthcare coverage. If you’re anything like me, you would put a boot up his ass and tell him to never bring his lazy carcass on your property again. But there are many of you who vote for politicians who do not even have the decency to ask for the donation. They just reach into your pocket and take it. And they expect you to grin and like it. This is part of the liberal twilight zone.

Imagine, if you will, you are a hardworking wife and mother. You try hard to be fiscally responsible. You desperately want your household to live within its means. But you have an irresponsible husband. He spends money hand over fist. Finally, you get him to sit still and listen. Patiently, you explain that there is more money going out than is coming into the family budget. You point out that the family is quickly heading towards bankruptcy. He smiles and tells you that he understands. Then he states that he knows just what to do. You ask him to explain. He proceeds to tell you that he has decided to buy a new truck and a new boat. He adds that he might even purchase some new golf clubs. You’re tempted to brain him with a cast iron frying pan. But be reminded that many of you voted for a president (he didn’t get elected by just the 20% of professing liberals in our populace) and a congress that govern our nation just like this irresponsible husband. Welcome to the liberal twilight zone.

Imagine, if you will, you are a passenger in a car. The driver is recklessly speeding down a winding country road. You are pleading with him to slow down and drive more safely. He ignores you and presses the pedal harder. Around a bend in the road stands a stranger on the shoulder. He is violently waving his arms. The driver skids the car to a stop. The stranger explains that there is a bridge out up ahead. He also relays that several vehicles have already driven off the cliff. You start to get out of the car but before you can make your exit, the insane driver stomps the accelerator, and the car speeds forward towards certain destruction and your demise. Frantically, you scream for the driver to stop the car but he continues to ignore you. This story is an apt analogy for what is happening in our country today. The European socialist states are in disarray. Several are on the brink of complete collapse. And yet our president is steadily ignoring the will of the people and is taking our nation down the pathway of destruction which Europe has already blazed and has also demonstrated the folly of it all. This, my friends, is the liberal twilight zone.

America is by far the greatest nation that has ever been. It is the crown jewel of human and world history. But unfortunately, we have allowed it to be hijacked by socialists and communists who refer to themselves as progressives. If we do not take it back, it will be destroyed. The damage will soon be irreparable, and it will be worse than any horror story that I or even Rod Serling could write.

A man was walking down a beach. He noticed a small boy carrying a bucket of water away from the surf where he had just dipped it. The man watched as the boy poured the water into a shallow hole which he had recently dug. Then he started back towards the ocean. The man called to the boy and asked, “Son, what are you doing?” Pausing briefly, the boy answered, “I’m going to take all the water from the ocean, and I’m going to put it in that hole.”

Of course, the boy’s undertaking was impossible. But it was no more impossible than it is for a finite humankind to completely understand everything about an all-knowing, all-powerful God. The two unattainable goals are very much alike.

As I have written on prior occasions, I am a born-again Christian. Jesus Christ, the risen Son of God, is my glorious savior. I fully believe that the Holy Bible is the perfect divine word of God. I am not a Bible thumper ; I am a Bible reader and Bible believer. Nothing is more important to me than my faith and my spiritual well-being. My relationship with God stands front and center in my life.

I certainly do not understand everything about God and His Holy Word. No one does. But the Bible clearly tells us that the Jewish race is God’s chosen people. I do not know why God chose to bless these people through Father Abraham but He did, and He doesn’t owe me or anyone else an explanation. As the modern vernacular goes, it is what it is. The Old Testament gives us several examples of God bringing judgment on the nation of Israel for their disobedience but He has never forsaken them, and He never will. It is important to note that God made a way for Gentiles to be grafted or adopted into the family of God’s chosen people through faith in Christ Jesus. So, all people have access to a personal relationship with God. As Christians, we must recognize that the Jewish people are our spiritual brothers and sisters just like our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We are all part of God’s family.

Our nation has prospered because God has immensely blessed us. He has blessed us because our’s is a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles by God-fearing men. Our great nation has been a shining example to the world of what can be when a country is basically operating within the will of God. Our wise founders gave us a government which provided liberty and individual freedom for which most people yearn. And God has demonstrated His pleasure with their endeavor by pouring out His blessings.

However, in many ways, our country has turned its back on God, and His blessings do not flow as readily as they once did. We have allowed the atheists and secularists in our society to almost completely remove God from the public square. For supposed security and government entitlements and handouts, we have allowed our freedoms and liberty to be taken away. Many Christians wrongly believe that you must be a meek wallflower to be a proper Christian. This type of thinking has led to our current malaise. Sometimes we must follow the example of our Savior. He took a whip and cleared the Temple of the blasphemers and moneychangers. Today, Washington D.C. could use just such a cleansing.

Our alliance with and our protection of the nation of Israel is the main reason, in my humble opinion, that God still blesses us at all. When we part ways with Israel, God’s blessings will part from us. I truly believe that.

God has always been and will always be with Israel. The Bible has given us several stories of miraculous military victories which were won by Israel when the odds were dauntingly against them. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, just dust off the nearest Bible and read about Joshua at Jericho, Gideon’s army, Samson against the Phillistines or David slaying the giant, Goliath. These victories were not won by the Israelites alone. They were won by the all-powerful God on their behalf. Many today probably don’t believe these stories, and most certainly do not believe that anything comparable happens in our modern world. To these people I say study about the Six Day War of 1967. It too was a miraculous victory and could not have been accomplished without the divine intervention of God.

Israel is a tiny nation which is completely surrounded by bitter enemies. The land was given to them by God through Father Abraham thousands of years ago. He created it, and it was His to give. It is hallowed ground, and it most certainly belongs to them. And with that being the case, Israel on several occasions has made generous offers of land for a Palestinian state. Each time the Palestinians and the entire Arab world rejected the offers. They refused because a Palestinian state is not their ultimate goal. The total destruction of Israel is. Israel has to be aggressive in the defense of their land because their survival depends on it. The God of today is the same God of the Old Testament. He hasn’t changed, and He wouldn’t have it any other way.

Now we have a Muslim wolf in Christian sheep’s clothing occupying the White House. This too I truly believe. He and his band of merry stooges are driving a huge wedge between us and Israel. God’s judgment on America will soon follow. Israel will stand by God’s providence no matter what may come. But unlike some of our financial and industrial giants, America is not too big to fail.

Early in his administration, President Obama started our nation down the road which leads to America becoming a European-style socialist country. He started by having the government take over a significant portion of the banking industry. Then the government took over two-thirds of the American auto industry. Now he has the pedal fully to the metal with Obamacare. And make no mistake about it, Cap and Trade and amnesty for illegal aliens are soon to follow. I will now answer the question posed in my title. Obviously, President Obama, House Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid are the major culprits in this debacle. But, how did they come into power?

Recently, I wrote a post in which I declared that Reid and Pelosi are the poster couple for term limits. Two other writers on this site disagreed with me. Their position is that the semi-permanent political class in Washington is good, because these officials are scared to vote against the will of the American people for fear of being voted out of office. So much for that theory. One of the commenters even wrote that because of this voter fear, Cap and Trade and Obamacare would be dead on arrival when they reached Congress. Well, so much for that theory also. Congressional term limits are desperately needed. But I’m not writing today to rehash that topic.

Again, I ask, how did President Obama end up in such a powerful position where he can do so much damage? And who is to blame?

Well, let’s start our blame game on the left side of the political spectrum. Approximately, 20% of our nation’s citizens are self-identified liberals. In every election they most certainly are going to vote for the candidate with the (D) by their name. And they will steer more votes in the direction of that candidate, some may be legal but often many are not. They are well versed in stealing elections. This is how Minnesota ended up with Senator Stuart Smally aka Al Franken.

Next we turn our attention to the ignorant and uninformed. These people live their lives vicariously through their pop culture icons. They stay in touch with the Hollywood crowd, and they hang on every word of those communist leaning, dictator loving, America hating, bleeding heart thespians. If one of their fantasy world heroes says it, they believe it. People magazine is their bible, and they’ll jump off a cliff for Oprah. Actually, it’s very sad but is also very harmful. Articles have been written by the score bemoaning low voter turn out in elections. As for myself, I would much rather that a small, well informed minority with substance decide the fate of our society than a bunch of ignorant dunderheads and bimbos who have jumped on the rock the vote bandwagon.

Minorities are next on the list. This go around it was a no-brainer that African-Americans would vote for Barack Obama because of his race. But it wouldn’t have mattered if he had been polka-dotted as long as he had that (D) by his name on the ballot. Ninety plus percent of African-Americans always vote for the democratic candidate because they have been brainwashed to do so. Even though the democratic party sold them out a long time ago. It is much the same in the Hispanic community. This is why the Democrats are pushing for amnesty and citizenship for illegal aliens because they know that they will instantly gain another large block of automatic voters which they could take for granted just like they do the African-Americans. It’s ironic that most Hispanic and African-American families live their lives as conservatives.

Next I want to address the self-described moderates in our society. I have less respect for them than I do liberals. At least the liberals, as wrong as they are, have the guts to take a stand on an issue. They don’t try to ride the fence. Moderates always claim to be independent and state that they vote for the man and not the party. But you let a charismatic candidate who is spewing sweet-sounding blather come along, such as Barack Obama, and they swoon like fifties-era school girls at an Elvis concert. Much like the little boy in the movie Swingblade, they just like the way he talks. It doesn’t matter that what he says has no real meaning or substance. He got elected on two words, hope and change, and not much else. It was like watching a skit on SNL.

Next up is a group of folks that don’t get mentioned anymore but they are still around. In the south we refer to them as “yellow dog democrats.” They got that name because it is said that they will vote for a yellow dog before they will vote for any candidate who is not a democrat. They are conservative people who will always vote for the democrat because their daddy and granddaddy always voted for the democrat. Politically, they live their lives under a rock, and they don’t seem to realize that the democratic party was hijacked long ago by every liberal interest group in the nation. Unbelievably, these dinosaurs still exist, and I know it’s true because I still know a few of them.

Conservatives are not going to escape my diatribe today. Many on our side contributed mightily to this mess. To many, including myself, John McCain was not conservative enough. He takes the conservative side on some issues but on many important issues he has stood with the liberals. He always loved to thumb his nose at the republican and conservative establishment. He cultivated his “maverick” image as he sought the approval of the mainstream media, who turned their backs on him as soon as he won the nomination. Many conservatives took what they perceived to be a principaled stand and refused to vote for John McCain. They stayed away in droves on election day. As for me, I took John’s mother’s advice. I went into the ballot box, held my nose and voted for John McCain. Now I bet ole John ain’t looking so bad to those principaled non-voters. Thanks to them and others, we are stuck with President Barack Hussein Obama.

We have to face the facts. There will not be a Ronald Reagan on every ballot in every election. Sometimes we have to consider who will do the least amount of damage while in office. We then must hold our noses and vote for the lesser of the two evils. The Tea Party movement is inspiring and has my full support but a third party is not a viable option. Our political landscape is too entrenched in the two-party system. We must work hard to bring the republican party back to the conservative roots which were planted by Goldwater and cultivated by Reagan.

Almost 234 years ago some very brave men met in Philadelphia. Led by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams, they declared our nation’s independence. The Father of our Country, George Washington, formed a small citizen army. They were undertrained, underequiped and underfunded. But they made up for their deficiencies with spirited patriotism, ruggedness and grit. With little food and without adequate clothing or shelter, they endured harsh winters in their campaign for freedom and independence. Against daunting odds they defeated the strongest, best trained and best equiped military force in the world at that time. Many paid the ultimate sacrifice as they suffered bitter defeats and setbacks but they persevered. It would have been fitting if Al Michaels had been around to proclaim, “Do you believe in miracles?!”

Since then the brave men and women, who have served in our military, have worked, fought and died to protect the liberties and freedoms which were won by Washington’s courageous citizen soldiers. Their bodies have littered many battlefields such as Queenston Heights, Gettysburg, San Juan Hill, Belleau Wood, Omaha Beach, Iwo Jima, Inchon, Khe Sahn, Baghdad and the mountains of Afghanistan.

The World War II generation has been touted as the greatest ever. That may or may not be true but they did endure great hardships, and they accomplished great things. The Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, Pearl Harbor and a brutal two-front worldwide war could not break their spirit nor weaken their resolve. On the warfront and the homefront they fought and labored to not only preserve liberty and freedom here at home but to also stop tyrants with mighty war machines from taking over the world. Sacrifice and honor were the trademarks of this remarkable generation of Americans.

Today, there are too many Americans who have been raised in an atmosphere of privilege. As parents and grandparents, we have spoiled them, pampered them and have uplifted their self esteem to the point that many believe that they’re the center of the universe. Too many think that the human condition and history didn’t start until the day they were born. They take liberty and freedom for granted, and they are too willing to give it up. They feel entitled to the point that they think someone else (the government, their parents etc.) should be responsible for their sustenance, their college education, their housing, their healthcare and anything else they might need or desire in this life. Many deadbeat slackers are jobless by choice and are still living with their parents well into their 30′s. I’m afraid that generations X and Y would not have the backbone, the resolve, the work ethic nor the ruggedness to take on anything nearly as daunting as World War II. They wouldn’t be willing to bow their necks and hunker down to accept the challenge. And sadly, us Baby Boomers aren’t much better. We may be worse because we created this mess.

It is the present environment of entitlement, which has been years in the making, that has given rise to Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and their ilk. Many are looking for a handout of some kind. Few will accept responsibility for their actions. They’re more concerned about themselves and are less concerned about their country. This great nation is on the verge of becoming a socialist “nanny state” of lazy video game playing, TV watching, drug using, basement dwelling, couch potato slackers, and countries like China, India and Brazil will pass us by.

The Tea Party movement, the raucous town hall meetings and the groundswell of rejuvenated conservatives have provided me with a dim ray of hope. I pray that we can turn this situation around before it’s too late. Too many brave people have fought, sacrificed and died for this great Republic for us to let it be tossed away like yesterday’s newspaper. I am praying that the American people will come through in the clutch this time like so many have in our glorious history.
