Talk about a revelation. NBC’s Chuck Todd confessed to some pretty serious crimes in the world of journalism. In an interview with Ari Fleischer, the host of “Meet the Press” attempts to explain away the media being caught flat footed on their coverage of the presidential election. As Todd fumbles through his reasoning, I find myself confused. In one sentence he says that the media knew Hillary Clinton was hated in middle America but felt uncomfortable reporting it, then moments later suggests that they didn’t cover the right stories. So which is it? My guess is both.

From the Washington Times:

Where I think political correctness got in the way of what we all knew as reporters and didn’t fully deliver was how hated the Clintons were in the heartland,” the “Meet the Press” host admitted Thursday to former Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer in a interview for the “1947” podcast.
“And I think it was a fear of, ‘Oh, is it going to look like it’s sexist, anti-woman if we say that?’” he added, pointing out that on the hustings he saw numerous “Hillary for Prison” signs adorning the front yards of rural America.
“I think we underplayed it a little bit out of political correctness fears,” Mr. Todd said. “No member of the press corps wants to look like they’re singling out a group and making a group feel bad, right, whatever that [group] is.

Let’s stop here for just a minute. The media has absolutely no problem make entire groups “feel bad”, they do it to Republicans all the time. This is a full on admission that Chuck Todd believes if he had said anything negative about Hillary Clinton he would have been called ‘Sexist’ by other members of the press. This is an admission of guilty, by Todd whether he realizes it or not.

When Fleischer followed up by asking if this was a reflection of what he calls “self selective journalism”, Chuck Todd struggles to defend what the Mainstream Media did in 2016. It’s worth noting, Chuck Todd was conducting the interview for podcast 1947. He was supposed to be interviewing Ari Fleischer.

“What do I think we did wrong in this election? The biggest thing is we didn’t tell the stories of all Americans,” Mr. Todd said. “We told the stories of coastal Americans. And ultimately, that’s like the larger trust issue.”
“We were more likely to do a story about the Dreamer that might get deported with new policies than we were about the 19-year-old opioid addict who feels hopeless in Rolla, Missouri. And, I’m not, I don’t pick on Rolla, Missouri, it’s, my point is that we just, we did not equally tell those stories very well, right, and, we were not, that is an out-of-touch issue.”

So correct me if I’m wrong…. Chuck Todd basically just told us that the Mainstream Media didn’t report certain things to avoid appearing Sexist, and didn’t report the “story” of middle America as there were others that interested them more, personally. This is what Conservatives have been saying for years. Literally, years. That their own bias impacts the coverage they give. Chuck Todd just confirmed it.

Rarely do you catch a journalist in an honest moment, but Chuck Todd may have gotten caught up, as he’s revealed a basic truth that those to the right of center have known for a long time. I will be interested to see how the hive mind media responds to these admissions. Can they even deny it?
