Van Jones: Ellison is the Future of Dem Party, The Clinton Days are Over

CNN contributor, Van Jones has decided that the Democrats should move further left after Hillary Clinton’s embarrassing loss. On Jake Tapper’s Sunday Morning Talk show, “State of the Union”, Jones made it known that he believes the Clinton days are over, that the future of the party is with progressive figures like Kamala Harris and Keith Ellison. Harris has been on the front lines for progressive ideas from amnesty to abortion on demand, while Ellison’s ties to the Muslim brotherhood have been his claim to fame, thus far. However this is what Van Jones thinks the Democrats should embrace as they move forward.

“The Clinton days are over,” Van Jones explained. “This idea that we’re going to be this moderate party that’s going to move in this direction, that’s going to throw blacks under the bus for criminal justice reform and — or for — for prison expansion, that’s going to throw workers under the bus for NAFTA, those days are over.”

Jones continued, “You can’t run and hide. You’ve got to be an authentic person from the beginning. You’re going to be judged based on your authentic commitment to the actual base of this party. And if you don’t do that, you can’t win.”

I agree that it’s time for the Clintons to move out of the national spotlight, I can’t say that moving to a more progressive agenda is the right direction for the Democrats though. It’s not surprising that Jones would encourage this shift, as he has made a career out of identity politics. It would benefit him if the Democrats continued to keep that as a key part of their platform. Based on the election results, it probably won’t benefit the Democrats themselves though.

The ideological rift is growing for the Democrats, as Jones is promoting Keith Ellison, Alan Dershowitz is threatening to leave the party if they make him DNC Chair, due to Ellison’s pro-Palestinian stance. The recent moves by the UN and John Kerry could cost the Democrats to lose even more of their Jewish support. Something Van Jones doesn’t seem to mind.
