A fight to protect free enterprise

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/24/lions-den-emanuel-speak-chamber-commerce-dinner/

Rahm Emanuel will now attempt to win over the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber doesn’t need to capitulate – the progressive agenda is anti-business and this is one area where cooperation is deadly. The Chamber is doing the right thing to resist the healthcare takeover and cap and trade legislation.

This is representationally important, a symbol of the free market standing against an over-reaching government. How the Chamber reacts can either inspire opposition to the progressive agenda or it can deflate opposition at a time when vigilance is necessary to fight for free market principles.

I don’t want to overstate the position in which our country is placed, but it’s obviously not a time to back down.

Chamber of Commerce is NOT in favor of Free Enterprise

reason60 (Diary) Sunday, October 25th at 1:20PM EST (link)

Sometimes the enemy of an emeny is NOT your friend.
Just because the CoC is in a pissing match with Obama does NOT mean the Chamber is somehow a bastion of “Free Enterprise”.
The Chamber is dedicated to protecting corporate interests, regardless of principle or theory.
An example of the thinking is found in the Wall Street Journal op-ed today

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704224004574489341293483878.html?mod=WSJ_hps_sections_opinion

Wherein the article notes:
“One irony of the Obama administration’s demonization campaign is that Mr. Donohue is hardly a right-wing ideologue. There was a day, in the 1970s and 1980s, when the Chamber fought for limited government. But starting in the 1990s, the group became more interested in using Washington to forward a narrower corporate self-interest. ”

Yeah, you read that right. Not advancing the principles of free enterprise where independent Galtian producers take responsibility for their own actions…..instead they pursue “corporate self interest”.

The CoC is in league with Goldman Sachs as teat-suckers and corporate welfare queens.
They don’t deserve the support of conservative thinkers.

Yes

But they SHOULD represent free enterprise. They might not deserve our support, but we can still ask them to fight for what’s right. This is a time for everyone, including the Republican Party, to reevaluate their past actions, stop capitulating and stand on principles.

Right now, any enemy of my enemy is my friend,

and I don’t seem to have nearly enough friends yet to effectively challenge Comrade Obama.
