The article describes in detail the process of "Reconciliation"

…except it reveals that 52 D senators will pledge to work any changes demanded by lib House members after the fact, and that 23 is the magic number of House members that must be convinced to stand down to stop this train wreck.

They’re all nuts.

3 is the (net) magic number of House Dems that need to be flipped

ZeroCare passed 220-215 in the House last Nov. Three more Dems (net) vote no and it goes down to the Nays 217-218.

23 is the pool of House Dems that Dick Morris believe could be flipped.

In November, 39 Dems voted no. Now how many of these we’re “free passes”, we don’t know. (Democratic Nay votes that would have been Yeas if reaching 218 had been riding on their vote.)

Not coincidentally, Charlie Cook’s political forecast places 41 Democratic House members in races no better for the Dems than “Leans Democratic” In addition to the 41 in hotly contested races, Cook lists 44 more Dem incumbents as “Likely Democratic” But Cook is a Democratic-favoring pollster. Apparently, Dick Morris thinks 23 or so of these 44 are in for much more contested races than Cook will let on.

If Scott Brown’s victory burned the free passes plus three former yes votes, then ZeroCare fails to reach a simple majority in the House and it is defeated.

Keep in mind that of those "yes" votes...

…one of them (Wexler) is no longer in office and the vacant seat won’t be filled till April; one (Cao) is actually a Republican who is almost certain to vote “no” the second time if it would make the difference; and one is Stupak, who sure seems to be digging in his heels. The three-vote margin assumes all other things remain equal, and as much as things have changed for the worse for Democrats since November things are most definitely no longer equal and I don’t think Pelosi can get anywhere near a majority a second time around.

I didn’t even read the Morris article. Every time he makes a prediction I get nervous because you can usually expect the opposite to happen. This is the guy who wrote a book prophesizing the 2008 presidential matchup between Hillary Clinton and Condi Rice.

What on God's green earth would allow a dem representative to trust a dem senator?

They know everytime they open their mouths they are lying. Would you buy a used car from Harry Reid? Lets hope three of them realize that.

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

We have to keep in mind that the Dems are not omnipotent...

…they are no longer operating from a position of strength and confidence, but of desperation. They are watching the done-deal of ObamaCare suffocating before these eyes, and this is their last-ditch plan to revive the patient. It doesn’t mean it’s going to work, or that the saner liberals in the House think it’s going to work, but they’ve gotta try something and hope for the best.

And the more of this they try, the more the fury of the American people reaches a boiling point. November, hell; I think more and more of the populace is growing amenable to the idea of lampposts.

If Reid, Pelosi & Obama conspire

izoneguy (Diary) Sunday, January 24th at 8:53PM EST (link)

in this manner to ram this crap down our throats the very Republic will be threatened. Not to mention as Dick said: “This plan, of course, is a total subversion of the legislative process.”

No democrat will be safe come election time if they manage this cloak & dagger plan. It will only mean that all out war is up on us and the Republicans will need to pull their heads out and start gang tackling these *astards – because that is what they are *astards.

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

The little twit looked like he was ready to piss his pants he was so shook by the Scott Brown victory. He’s one that I’d bet would have no trouble telling Nancy not just no, but hell no.

I hope you're right, but . . .

it seems like everytime I thought there was no way they could get the votes, Nancy and Harry get it done. Nothing, and I mean nothing, will surprise me.

Even Reconciliation Is Subject to 60-Vote 'Points of Order'

IJB Sunday, January 24th at 10:55PM EST (link)

So that really doesn’t get them out of the hole. Not to mention that that part of the bill would expire after 5 years unless renewed (fat chance with the GOP Senate we’ll have by 2015!).

Unless of course this is all a ruse, and the Senate Dems instead to shaft the House Dems which seems to be much, much more likely.

As it is, I don’t think the Senate bill can pass the House anyway.

But, it’s amazing that they are still pursuing this, even though it has *NO* chance of passing…

Reid & Pelosi are telling

izoneguy (Diary) Sunday, January 24th at 11:14PM EST (link)

their people that “NO” is “ON” spelled backwards…..

Morris wrote a dumb article that is ignorant of reality.

The Congress CANNOT use reconciliation on anything whatsoever except budgetary items. And that means that there can be no non-budgetary elements whatsoever in what is being reconciled.

In any event, Pelosi does not have the votes to pass the Senate bill because the Senate stripped out the abortion prohibitions and those lost votes by themselves kill the bill.

The reality is...

The Independent Medical Advisory Board was created and partially funded by the 2009 Economic Stimulus Bill.

It looks reasonable, sounds innocuous, but it is the foundation for government controlled healthcare.

It’s one the most dangerous parts, along with the constitutionally-stressed personal mandate, of the Democrats’ “reform” package.

All that’s required to facilitate its (IMAB) expansion is additional funding, and that can be addressed through reconciliation.

“Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isn’t so.” – Ronald Reagan

No, but they can do a Part 1 and then

6eorge Jetson (Diary) Monday, January 25th at 9:56AM EST (link)

worry about spinning the failure of Part 2 later.

Part 1 being a passage of the Senate Bill verbatim by the House or a passage of the House Bill verbatim by the Senate.

Maybe Morris' article isn't that "dumb"

From the Huffington Post:

…the pressure to move the ball forward rested on the shoulders of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cali.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) — as much as the White House. It has been reported, though it remains unconfirmed, that Senate leadership is circulating a letter in which 51 Democrats pledge to pursue this clean-up legislation (the number needed for passage). A high-ranking aide cautioned the Huffington Post not to expect major action on health care reform this week, save for what Obama says on the matter during his State of the Union address on Wednesday night.
