So I assume you’ve heard the news that the Obama Administration is going to file suit in Federal Court against the State of Arizona over SB1070. Gotta protect those Federal prerogatives and all that stuff. Or whatever.
Well, by way of some background, we have five Democrat Congress Critters in AZ. One is Raul SomethingOrAnother who is THE most liberal Critter in DC and will represent his District in Tucson until we have Global Warming related snow storms in the high desert in July. One is Ed Pastor who’s been in Congress since Barry Goldwater was just a nature photographer and is good at bringing home the tacos. If he can figure out a way to live forever, he’ll be in Congress forever. And then there are the other three. One is Harry Mitchell who beat JD Hayworth in 06 because the people in CD05 were sick of listening to JD whine. Then there’s the two ladies. One represents a reasonably “moderate” district around Tucson and the other snuck in when our R Critter got indicted. All three of those districts should be reliably Republican. Hence the following from The Hill…
Rep. Harry Mitchell (D-Ariz.) on Monday sent a sharply worded letter to President Barack Obama urging him not to sue.
“I believe your administration’s time, efforts and resources would be much better spent securing the border and fixing our broken immigration system,” the two-term congressman wrote in the letter. “Arizonans are tired of the grandstanding, and tired of waiting for help from Washington. … [A] lawsuit won’t solve the problem. It won’t secure the border, and it won’t fix our broken immigration system.”

“Congresswoman Giffords wants more federal agents on the Arizona border, not federal lawyers in court arguing with state lawyers about a law that will do nothing to increase public safety in the communities she represents,” C.J. Karamargin, a spokesman for the congresswoman, told The Hill.

Kirkpatrick likewise said the administration should focus on border security.“I am calling on the president and the attorney general to abandon preparations for a lawsuit against Arizona, and to recommit to finding a national solution to fixing this national problem,” the freshman lawmaker said in a statement released Monday. “The administration should focus on working with Arizona to put together a long-term strategy to secure our borders and reform our immigration policy. … The time for talk is over, and the time for action is here.”
Oh, and did I mention that the Democratic Party in Arizona is about as well organized as the Obama White House but not so well funded and…
Another way the suit could be problematic for Arizona Democrats: It could make it more complicated for them to appear with Obama at a fundraiser or campaign with him in-state.
The White House declined to comment for this story, but noted that Obama has no upcoming trips to Arizona planned at the moment.
Hey, The O is going to Vegas to party and insure Harry Reid’s defeat right? He could stop off in Phoenix on the way…
Oh, and I can’t let this opportunity pass to note that Democrats think we’re all racists.
Critics [that would be pandering, racialist Democrats, thank you] have said the bill promotes racial profiling, but polls have shown the law to be popular — a Rasmussen Reports survey in April found that 70 percent of likely voters in Arizona approve of the legislation, while just 23 percent oppose it.

The latest PC numbers from Maricopa County
ColdWarrior (Diary) Thursday, June 24th at 2:55AM EST (link)show that the Republican Party has approximately 2,996 elected precinct committeemen who have qualified for the ballot and will be elected on August 24, while the Democrat Party has approximately 713.
Pinal County has 194 qualified Republican precinct committeemen candidates and 72 Democrat Party candidates.
The goal is to get all of these new, and not so new, PCs mobilized to recruit other Republicans and Republican-leaning independents and disgruntled Democrats to help get to the polls (either by mail-in ballot or physically) voters who will vote for Republican candidates. And we’ll be focusing on that goal from here on out.

In some of the legislative districts in Maricopa County, for example, long-time RINO leadership is in place and they DO NOT WANT any conservatives to catch wind of the fact that they could become PCs in sufficient numbers and oust them IF they became elected PCs.
So, I try to get the word out. By word of mouth with my sign and flyer at whatever conservative gatherings I can attend, through comments on web sites, by asking other conservative PCs to do the same, etc.
I’ve set up a secure Ning site that I’m going to use for organizing a conservative PC caucus for my legislative district and then allow conservative PCs to use it as a template in their LDs. The idea is to have as many energized PCs as possible in each precinct to help Get Out The Vote for the best conservative candidates in the primary election (I believe in CD-3, for example, there’s 11 Republican candidates all claiming the conservative mantle and in CD-5 we have 5 candidates, all claiming to be THE conservative — except that some of them are blatant McCain supporters and have his endorsement) and then Get Out The Vote in the general election for those winners, conservative or not.
While focusing on Get Out The Vote efforts, we will be trying to identify the conservative PCs and the invite them into our respective caucuses. And then after the internal Party leadership elections that take place after the Nov. 2 general election, we will continue to recruit and organize for the 2012 battles to come.
Some really outstanding people have stepped forward and are recruiting and organizing like crazy. We are establishing new chapters of the Pachyderm Coalition as another means of caucusing conservatives generally and PCs in particular and have other ideas in the hopper. But, in my mind, the goal is, essentially what you wrote about in your article way back when and Ken Blackwell’s plan — growing the Party and strengthening it via participation of conservatives in their “political neighborhoods,” as I like to call them — the precincts as precinct committeemen.
Pray. Recruit. Repeat.

We have a nominally Republican mayor, but he’s about as conservative as I am Syrian. I have the singular misfortune of living in Raul Grijalva’s district.
Out in the boonies, you tend to find a lot of libertarian-ish people, as well.

Most of the problem comes from the UA faculty and the college kids (yeah, Raul Grijalva is exactly the sort of sparkling intellect that those dilettantes favor), but the Mexican communities that are heavily subsidized by local and state govts don’t help, either. Raul has been credited with being the mastermind behind the original, single-payer draft of HCR (which, of course, was McGuyvered into Romneycare Pt Deux when it was obvious Joe Lieberman wouldn’t vote for the bill as it stood). He’s also one of the few Congressmen who could, without hyperbole, be convicted of treason, if the courts weren’t so politicized: his affinity for Mexico and disdain for the US of A has a funny way of combining into treacherous statements (his Marxist views don’t hurt any).
