An example of why McCain wins the primary by 20+…

I’ll say it again, I have no use for John McCain. None. Zip. Nada.

Unfortunately John Shadegg or Jeff Flake didn’t choose to run against him this year. Instead we get JD Hayworth. And he’s already peaked. JD’s problem, as I’ve noted before, is not McCain, it’s JD.

The press in Arizona doesn’t usually agree on much but they certainly agree that JD is a fool and an easy mark. Keep in mind as you watch the following summary of newscasters trying not to laugh out loud that McCain is routinely in the news defending Israel, commenting on the foolishness of TheBoyPresident™’s foreign policy, his military policy, trying terrorist in NYC and pounding TBP on health care. Here’s the press JD gets.

Do I believe McCain? Hell no. That’s not the point, the point is that JD is perceived to be a complete fool by the press here and they will go out of their way to make that point over and over. And given that the electorate that knows him best really has no use for him, they’ve found a willing audience.

Oh yeah, Sarah will be in town next week…

Would it be worse

for Hayworth to lose now? Or lose in the general to a phony moderate Democrat who would wipe the floor with JD’s own whack job quotes and cost Republicans a seat altogether? I’ll take McCain in his (hopefully) new role as an ideological back bencher if it means a (long) shot at majorities in both houses of Congress.

Actually, if anybody could beat McCain in the primary

mbecker908 (Diary) Wednesday, March 17th at 8:23AM EST (link)

they would beat the Dem in the general. The Dems have absolutely nobody who is known outside their immediate family circle and no money. They’ve got a pretty good shot at winning the Governor’s race so state money will go there and the national party has too many seats to defend to pour money into a lost cause in Arizona.

This is a Republican seat and will remain so.

McCain is now spending money running TV ads

ColdWarrior (Diary) Wednesday, March 17th at 1:48AM EST (link)

which is money that McCain’s “Friends of John McCain” PAC can’t spend for other RINOs around the country.

Also, we’re talking about a Republican PRIMARY race, not a general election. I have yet to meet a grass roots conservative at the scores of Tea Parties and Tea Party meetings and 9.12 meetings and protests at Harry Mitchell’s office, etc., the kinds of people who will vote in the Republican primary, who will vote for McCain.

On March 9 we had a primary election in Tempe. A whopping 18 per cent of eligible voters actually turned out. Will we have a greater turnout on August 24? And will that turnout be an energized, increased conservative turnout? I think so.

mbecker, want to enter into a friendly bet now (I’ll meet you at your restaurant of choice in Tempe and buy you dinner; you’ll do the same for me if I win) that Hayworth will end up within 20 percentage points of McLame?

Thank you.

I understand the turnout issues, but the primary will have a couple of contested races, like the Governor, that will draw some attention. I also think that McCain’s organization will go all out for turnout and they’ll spend more money on ads in the couple of weeks running up to the primary than they do in the entire general campaign.

Flake

Or Shadegg would have really caused ripples and might of even forced the maverick into retirement.

20 plus?

I’ll go out on a limb–Hayworth’s vote wallows in Medina (18%) territory with McCain picking up the rest. Palin will certainly help to achieve that.

Palin will help. Scott Brown will probably come back and

JD Hayworth calling Mormons infidels?

kuksool (Diary) Wednesday, March 17th at 2:06PM EST (link)

JD is running ads proclaiming himself to be a good neigborly Christian. Les Munil of the AZ Family Research Center (AZ’s Religious Right) is supporting JD Hayworth. It would not surprise me if JD starts calling Mormons fake Christians.

You've got to be kidding

If I were JD I would sure rather have the endorsement/backing of the AZ Family Research Center the the 100,000 Illegal Immigrants and their ilk that are behind McCain.

The fact that your comment title puts disgustingly divisive words in JD’s mouth pretty clearly gives away your “kook” credentials.

A couple of things kuksool...

1. Muncil and AZFRC is a good organization. They are the only good endorsement JD has. Please don’t link AZFRC, even in an obtuse way, to “calling Mormons fake Christians”. They do not wage theological war.

2. While I agree that JD’s recent commercial was less than a stellar effort, even I would be surprised if he said something that stupid.

And one for leehazel… the kook in the woodpile is JD.

"And he’s already peaked"

Not true. Rasmussen has him down by only 8 now. And it’s only March.

Looks like ColdWarrior is going to get a free dinner in August.

What if Hayworth wins, does ColdWarrior get free dessert, too? :-)
