THIS will wad up some Lefty panties.

I’m guessing that the wad will be such that they won’t be sitting down for a while. From that journal of conservative activism on the Left Coast…

As [she] tells it in her soft-spoken, Midwestern cadence, the story of her involvement in the “tea party” movement is the tale of an average citizen in action.

“I am an ordinary citizen from Omaha, Neb., who just may have the chance to preserve liberty along with you and other people like you,” she said at a recent panel discussion with tea party leaders in Washington. [She] went on to count herself among those energized into action by President Obama’s “hard-left agenda.”

But [she] is no ordinary activist.

This lady has started a non-profit lobbying group organized around conservative principles. It’s called LibertyCentral.org. Interestingly enough, as a non-profit they plan to accept donations from like-minded folks including donations from labor unions and corporations.

The group plans to issue score cards for Congress members and be involved in the November election, [...]

“I adore all the new citizen patriots who are rising up across this country,” [She] said on the panel at the Conservative Political Action Conference. “I have felt called to the front lines with you, with my fellow citizens, to preserve what made America great.”

Another citizen activist rises up to defend liberty. This is a great story and it will be an interesting one as it develops this year. This is no light weight group. Here’s the Managing Editor of LibertyCentral:

Brian Faughnan, Managing Editor of LibertyCentral.org.

Brian’s a veteran of conservative politics – at first in his home state of New York, and later in his adopted state of Virginia.

Brian put in 10 years in the House of Representatives, pushing for smaller government and lower taxes. He worked as a lobbyist, speechwriter, and ice cream maker before turning to new media and online conservative advocacy. He’s written at the Weekly Standard blog, RedState.com, and the Washington Times. In his spare time, Brian roots for the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals, and still finds time to make the occasional batch of mint chocolate chip.

Yes, that would be Brian of Redstate and today’s front page post can be found here.

So take a peek at LibertyCentral. They will certainly do “interesting” things to the Left – as the Chinese proverb notes – this year.

Oh, and “She”? One Ginnie Thomas. She is an administrator at Hillsdale College. Oh yeah, and her husband’s name is Clarence.

To me, “consensus” seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects … There are still people in my party who believe in “consensus” politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors … I mean it. — Margaret Thatcher

I thought I heard the distant sounds of wailing and gnashing of teeth. It was just a bunch of lefties reading the news.

Oh!! This is such a sweet piece of writing, Becker!

If I could, I’d reco it 3 dozen times. What a wonderful organization to hear about and it involves names that ring like the Liberty Bell– Brian, Ginnie Thomas, Hillsdale College, and Ginnie’s husband, Clarence.

That’s not going to make the lefty’s get their shorts in bunches, it’s going to give them aneurysms. Multiple ones. But they’ll have ObamaCare to fix them, won’t they. Yeah, fix ‘em good.

This project is going to be a lot of fun!

If I may make one suggestion Brian...

nessa (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 3:46PM EST (link)

I for one, would find it helpful if you included a page with suggestions to help explain the weekly donations to our spouses. There are going to be questions, we’ll need answers ready to go.

1. The pay-go excuse: I’m foregoing Starbucks three times a week so we don’t go over budget.
2. The On Sale excuse: These folks support tax cuts so by giving them money I’m actually saving us thousands!
3. ??? Any more suggestions?

“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

I really appreciate the ongoing support of the RedState family, and I’ll relay all your suggestions to the Liberty Central team. Suffice it to say Nessa, that any investment in Liberty Central will be repaid by better government in the long run. ;)

Very Very Cool.

LisaDe (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 3:23PM EST (link)

As I am learning out here in my little town, that being a conservative amongst the younger college crowd is becoming very “cool” as well!!

You know what LisaDe

Scope (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 3:52PM EST (link)

Your is one of the best, and truly most hopeful posts I’ve read in a long time. It’s more than time that the “cool” young conservatives separate themselves from the run of the mill 20 something year olds. You are the future leaders of the greatest country on earth. Are you helping to promote that agenda?

I am helping Scope, however,

LisaDe (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 9:47AM EST (link)

my post may have been misleading. I am an advocater amongst the college crowd, not in college myself. Thankfully, they consider me “cool” as well! I am surrounded by many college students due to my small business. I have seen the growth and I am so encouraged by the way they are open to keeping their family values in tact.

What started out as a place to “congregate” to discuss art, painting, etc, has turned into a Conservative venue and these kids are so proud to be a part of it. They use facebook, twitter, etc and I am telling you truthfully, that what they view as being “cool” and “the thing to be” is so far from what is going on in Washington. They wear it like they wear a pair of Seven Jeans. They enjoy clashing with Liberal professors and wear it like a badge of honor. They are growing here from several different colleges in the area.

Some things that you may find very reassuring and fantastic:
1) Most of these students consider Pope John Paul II to be their hero and talk openly about his beautification.
2) They know EVERYTHING about Ronald Reagan.
3) They want to succeed on their own.
4) They welcome any opportunity to debate conservative principles, especcially on campus. This solidifies their “coolness”.
5) It is growing, they are pumped to see it through. You would be amazed at the groups they are forming using facebook and the followers they are cultivating from all over the country. I am happy to be a part of it and will not stop.

LisaDe- Sounds like you are sitting right in the birds nest

Scope (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 12:10PM EST (link)

and you are helping to drive the little birdlings in the right direction. From my experience, the young college students want to feel that they are great intellectuals, and they now have this great sense of independence (usually other than financial). For them to even consider debating “conservative” ideas, and questioning their liberal professors, is the tide change that this country so desperately needs. We’ve had too many years of Progressive indoctrination, and, it sounds like they are breaking out of the mold, and, questioning with boldness, as Beck would say. Your news is very reassuring and fantastic. I’d love to see this become the new wave among a majority of college students, in all colleges and Universities. Thank you for your terrific work. We need more like you.

4life (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 5:23PM EST (link)

Experts say Virginia Thomas’ work doesn’t violate ethical rules for judges. But Liberty Central could give rise to conflicts of interest for her husband, they said, as it tests the norms for judicial spouses. The couple have been married since 1987.

“I think the American public expects the justices to be out of politics,” said University of Texas law school professor Lucas A. “Scot” Powe, a court historian.

He said the expectations for spouses are far less clear. “I really don’t know because we’ve never seen it,” Powe said.

Under judicial rules, judges must curb political activity, but a spouse is free to engage.

“We expect the justice to make decisions uninfluenced by the political or legal preferences of his or her spouse,” said New York University law professor Stephen Gillers, an expert on legal ethics.

Virginia Thomas declined to comment in detail about her plans for LibertyCentral.org, which she said would fully launch in May. In a brief phone interview, she did not directly answer questions about whether she and her husband had discussed the effects her role might have on perceptions of his impartiality.

“I don’t involve myself in litigation. Are you asking that because there’s a different standard for conservatives? Did you ask Ed Rendell that question?” she said, referring to the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, who is married to a federal appellate court judge.

I remember all those breathless stories in the lamestream press about 9th Cir. uber-lib Judge Stephen Reinhardt

ColdWarrior (Diary) Sunday, March 14th at 8:14PM EST (link)

and the fact that his wife, Romona Ripston, runs the L.A. office of the ACLU:

“Stephen Reinhardt is married to Ramona Ripston, who is Executive Director of the ACLU of Southern California[2] until her February 2011 retirement.”

They were shocked! Shocked, I tell you!

Another Conservative Nebraskan, doing the people’s good work. :D

I remember, at the time of his nomination, that connection being brought out back here. Always good to see Conservative Huskers fighting the good fight on the national level.

Thank you, Mrs. Thomas, for being another shining beacon we can be proud of, just like Dick Cheney.

P.S. Oh, and the word ‘Cornhusker’ didn’t lose it’s quality, just because some choose to use it in a derogatory manner. It’s Nelson’s Kickback, not ours. :)

So, huskerchuck...is the blowback on Nelson's perfidy still

eburke (Diary) Monday, March 15th at 5:37PM EST (link)

at gale force (which is what I hope) or has it started to subside?

Personally, I’d love it if Mrs. “I’m married to a gigolo” Nelson’s social life is still, as has been reported, still in tatters.

Any Cornhusker insight into that? Will your fellow Nebraskans still be outraged enuf to take him out in ’12?

“All that need be done for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

Far as I can tell, the outrage is still going strong

huskerchuck (Diary) Wednesday, March 17th at 12:00PM EST (link)

Those that I talk to still have VERY strong feelings about the insanity and ridicule that Nelson heaped on us. I don’t think it will take much to oust him in ’12. I will say this… Nelson is trying again to backtrack on this, to make people in Nebraska think he’s something he’s not. What the Repubs here have to be unafraid of is hitting him with this time and time and time again. The ads have to keep up, and the amount of pressure has to keep up.

They’ve done a good job so far. And the party here is decent, but not unflappable. We’ll see how much pressure they keep on. But truthfully, it may not make much difference in the long run. Nelson’s age, and his attitude about Washington in general, speaks volumes about a potential retirement anyway. Not that I wouldn’t relish a fight, and I honestly think Ben would be done in ’12 anyway. I’ll be VERY surprised if our governor doesn’t decide to run, and Dave gets the job done when he runs for an office. Conservative, to the point, knows how to play his political cards VERY well. I’m a strong supporter of his, and everything I’m seeing points to the Senate. He gets elected this year, He’ll be in his second full term, and be term-limited after it gets done. In ’12, he’d be 1/2 way through that. So I think all signs would point to a run.

Long answer, but basically two points. I think the pressure will stay, and I think Nelson is done in ’12.

Husker Chuck
God Bless, and I’ll be back soon!
