As I recall, the problem during the last eight years was that other countries didn’t like us and that made us less safe. So now that more countries like us we should be safer. Right? You be the judge…
From CNN…
WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Obama castigated the North Korean government Monday for conducting a second nuclear bomb test in defiance of multiple international warnings.
President Obama calls North Korea’s nuclear test “a grave threat to the peace and stability of the world.”President Obama calls North Korea’s nuclear test “a grave threat to the peace and stability of the world.”
North Korea’s actions “pose a grave threat to the peace and stability of the world,” Obama said at the White House.
Obama promised that the United States and the international community would strongly respond to the test.
He added that North Korea’s actions have “flown in the face of United Nations resolutions” and were inviting deeper international isolation for the communist state.
If that doesn’t make you feel safer, this certainly will, courtesy of Dick Morris…
She [Caroline Glick, deputy editor and op-ed writer for the Jerusalem Post] writes, “…we have learned that the [Obama] administration has made its peace with Iran’s nuclear aspirations. Senior administration officials acknowledge as much in off-record briefings. It is true, they say, that Iran may exploit its future talks with the US to run down the clock before they test a nuclear weapon. But, they add, if that happens, the US will simply have to live with a nuclear-armed mullocracy.”
She goes on to write that the Obama administration is desperate to stop Israel from attacking Iran writing that “as far as the [Obama] administration is concerned, if Israel could just leave Iran’s nuclear installations alone, Iran would behave itself.” She notes that American officials would regard any harm to American interests that flowed from an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities as Israel’s doing, not Iran’s.
We’ve got the MommyParty running things folks. Somehow I have a feeling that none of the issues currently commanding our attention, and probably none of the Republican “leaders” or “contenders” we’re currently discussing are going to be even remotely on the table by 2012. We could be looking at a world that a printing press with paper and green ink can’t fix.
The time to stop the fool, and the foolishness, is now.

I Think The Odds Of a Nuclear Attack on The U.S. in the Next 4 Years...
IJB Monday, May 25th at 5:23PM EST (link)…Is quite high, and getting higher by the minute.
As of now, I’ll say we’ll be lucky if we don’t suffer a coordinated nuclear attack on multiple targets coming from multiple actors.
If/when it happens, the question is – will the people of this country rally ’round this imbecile, or will the blame be properly apportioned where it belongs?…
The Doctrine of Mutual Assured Destruction still holds...
Steve Maley (Diary) Monday, May 25th at 5:46PM EST (link)…unfortunately may not be judged to come into play by either the DPRK or Iraq (or a Taliban-controlled Pakistan, for that matter).
They may make the judgment that they can use nukes with (relative) impunity as long as the ultimate authority is the UN Security Council, and not a US President with just a little bit of cowboy in him.
And that judgment is everything.
And when that happens, boys and girls, all bets are off.

I Don't Think MADD Applies Anymore With Obama in Charge (nt)
IJB Monday, May 25th at 7:45PM EST (link)MAD applies insofar as...
Steve Maley (Diary) Monday, May 25th at 8:20PM EST (link)…I don’t see the US being attacked directly. Domestic political forces would require Obama to retaliate, and any of these regimes (Iran, DPRK or a Taliban-dominated Pakistan) wants to retain power at all costs.
Our friends (read: Israel) had better stay on their toes, though.
When the authority of last resort is the UN Security Council, the rogue states may feel like they can get away with almost anything.

DONTREADONME (Diary) Monday, May 25th at 8:30PM EST (link)now we are left with a rogue communist dictator and a islamic facist with a crazed religious zeal that can not be stabilized solely with MAD. It seems if the United States is not directly attacked we can expect the “just words” from the Zero and wait and see if the UNSC uses some tough language against the offender. My guess is that the United States will not lift a finger for a war between Israel and Iran nor do I expect we will protect Japan and South Korea especially since we dumped the whole missile defense system. The world has just become as dangerous as it was when Bill Clinton was in office. So much for the good old days of the Bush administration.

Next93 (Diary) Friday, May 29th at 8:31AM EST (link)The North Korean populace may be fanaitically devoted to Kim, but I don’t think for a moment that he’s ready to lay down his life or his lifestyle for them. His tantrums have all been carefully measured and usually in response to low-key pressures from the US that hamper his lifestyle. We put pressure on the banks in Taiwan that launder his counterfeiting of US currency, he re-opens a nuclear plant. We freeze the personal funds of high-level party bosses (which in turn interrupts his supply of Chivas Regal), he tests a missile or two.
Both Pappa Kim and Baby Kim have spent a hafl-century taking the measure of American presidents and probing for weaknesses, and they’ve found a veritable motherlode with this one. But the minute the president-for-life ralizes that his Lyle Lovett hairstyle is in the crosshairs, he’ll back down.

Existential threats are not swayed by speeches or marketing campaigns
Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Tuesday, May 26th at 8:39AM EST (link)Mr. Obama ran a marketing campaign to get elected. People bought the product based on his sales pitch; not dismayed by the well documented claims of false advertising. It was a “historic” event, after all, and not worthy of such interference. Plus, the new product was SO much better than the old, unpopular one.
Now people are starting to realize the new product is defective and does not operate as advertised. They also are discovering that while the old “product” was not as shiny or attractive, it was dependable, reliable and worked much better than the old. But, it’s a little too late to read the fine print which notes “no returns for four years”.
In the interim, the “product” will engorge itself on our liberty and become so distracted by its own reflection and ineptness we will lose all measure of protection. The world will become less safe and our future existence will be imperiled.
One day, folks will realize our Presidency is not American Idol or some fantasy movie. They may also want to note that when one political party spends all its time demonizing and demagoguing without substance or facts it is the hallmark of failure.
“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Tuesday, May 26th at 10:39AM EST (link)It was a utility phrase employed as an ethereal “catch all” siren. The purpose was to override Obama’s lack of substance and shortcomings by having voters define the phase using positive self-projection.
However, you are right about the pitchman. He made it sound genuine and believable. The proof is, people bought it.
Combined with the popular dissatisfaction created by the Democrat’s baseless, unrelenting attacks it was a recipe for disaster.
It is a classic combination that has yielded some of the worst periods in history;
- First they set you afloat
- Then unleash the sirens
- It sounds appealing
- You crash into the rocks and wreck
