Tea Parties? What Tea Parties?

I use FireFox for my internet browser because it has cool features. One of the coolest (in my non-techie, non-cutting edge opinion) is an add-in called Brief. It is a subscription based RSS headline reader so I can see headlines from all sorts of sources in one place. I subscribe to a bunch of newspapers (more on that later) and a bigger bunch of blogs. Makes it very convenient to review quickly what’s being reported/what’s being talked about and be able to aggregate lots of info quickly.

Yeah, OK, so what you’re saying. I’m saying this…

I clear Brief every day. When I checked it on Wednesday, I decided to clear nothing for a few days. What I was looking for was feeds that related to Tea Parties. Keep in mind, I’m getting top line story/headline feeds from the news outlets, stuff that they put in their RSS service because they think the stories are important. So, the results? Hey, thanks for asking…

Get the picture? OK, everybody who is surprised please raise your hand.

And, if you’ve got a couple of minutes, you can read ‘em all. It won’t take long.

Investor’s Business Daily Editorials…
Tax Day Rallies Were Anything But ‘Astroturf’
Tea Wasn’t All That Simmered At Tax Protests
Tax Revolt: Day 1

Washington Times…
PRUDEN: Hail the tea bag, weapon of terror and this is actually an OP Ed, not “News”
Tossed package ends D.C. “Tea Party”

I should note here that I purposely don’t bother to aggregate feeds from TV sources like CNN, MSNBC, Fox or the networks. One, it’s a waste of my time to review them; two, they’re covered more than adequately by YouTube.

So, bottom line is that over 200,000 people showed up at rallies all across the nation in the middle of the week. The organizers spent about $1.98 on advertising, promotion and overhead to coordinate the rallies. And it ain’t “news”.

taralynn is a hopeless optimist.

Thank goodness for blogs and the alternative media. If it wasn’t for us there wouldn’t be any hope for this country.

on bloggers and alternative media. Just said the same thing to my sister a couple of days ago.

When a CNN “reporter” got into a yelling argument with Chicago tea protesters about what the “reporter” thinks that the protesters should THINK. Well..
you know. If Founding Bloggers hadn’t videotaped the exchange after-the-tv-link-was broken off nobody woulda known it happened at all.

Back in ’03 the anti-war protests drew 8-30 million people worldwide (300 – 400K in NY alone).

Now I don’t know if you remember, but those protests pretty much got 0 coverage from the MSM. So the fact that the tea party protests which had a tiny fraction of the size of the 03 protests but still got more coverage kinda puts your complaint in question.

You couldn’t watch the news for five seconds without hearing about the antiwar protests, the 9/11 Widows Against War (or whatever they called themselves). I remember the disapproving editorializing by “objective reporters” about the “Rush To War” (that oddly, took 14 months. Some rush. How long would it have taken if they were slow?)

And of course, a few years later Cindy Sheehan had her own media entourage. There was *saturation* coverage of the anti-war protests. You must have been living under a rock if you thought there was “0 coverage from the MSM”

Now, sure — there was little coverage by the American media of overseas protests. But that’s nothing new; ordinarily the American media hardly reports anything from overseas unless Princess Diana’s ghost is involved. As those people don’t (yet) vote here, their protests can’t assist the Media in their God-Given task of influencing politicians to do what the Media Intelligentsia demands.

Unless, of course, there’s a war going badly and reportage can be used to bludgeon a president they hate — then, they’ll report it. Then, they’ll pay stringers from Hamas or ex-Republican Guard to provide their unbiased fauxtography. (But they’ll ignore the massive pro-Bush/pro-American rallies in Albania).

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen! –Samuel Adams

front page article speaks for itself.

cnn and the huffers are going ape-snot over the tea protests. The tea protests are reasonably nonoffensive while many war protests are disgusting. The lefties are wise not to show blanket coverage of war protesters because their filming would be to beclown themselves.

I would say that the MSM is generally distasteful of all protests (they are the elite and generally look down on any people powered movements). I see no liberal conspiracy in the lack of coverage of the anti-war protests, but I also see no liberal conspiracy in the coverage of the Tea Parties.

The more obvious explanation is the the MSM is anti “we the people”.

reporting on the tea parties does not fit into the MSM's template

loewenbrau (Diary) Saturday, April 18th at 6:59PM EST (link)

they only ” report” what is beneficial to THEIR agenda——-otherwise , they will simply inject themselves into the story ( see Chicago Tax Day Tea Party). Goebbels would be proud. For those of you educated under the union teacher’s —he was Hitler’s man.

I think it would be a little surprising

redneck_hippie (Diary) Saturday, April 18th at 7:22PM EST (link)

if antiwar groups should decide to protest in 800 cities IN THE US while Obama has combat troops committed. You see, it’s not a war any more and it’s not terror any more.

The largest antiwar protests against the Iraq war took place in Feb 03 several months _before_ the Iraq war started. Also FYI those protests are in the Guinness book of world records as the largest antiwar protests ever. Still little to no coverage in the MSM at the time.

I did read a wiki article so

redneck_hippie (Diary) Saturday, April 18th at 8:08PM EST (link)

I could get some perspective on war protests versus tax protest.

Guess people are more motivated when they think innocent people are being killed than when they think their livlihood is at stake.
