Promoted by Jeff. Moe also hit this, but it’s tough to say too much on this topic — particularly when it’s said well.
I’m just guessing of course, but this story probably won’t make the Easter Sunday editions of any US newspaper. Or any of the TV newsies either. Just guessing…
From The Tribune:
Vatican sources told Il Giornale that their support for abortion disqualified Ms Kennedy and other Roman Catholics President Barack Obama had been seeking to appoint.
Mr Obama was reportedly seeking to reward John F Kennedy’s daughter, who publicly gave her support to his election bid. She had been poised to replace Hillary Clinton as New York senator, but dropped out amid criticism that she lacked enough experience for the job.
[...]
The Italian paper said that the Vatican strongly disapproved of Mr Obama’s support for abortion and stem cell research. The impasse over the ambassadorial appointment threatens to cloud his meeting with the Pope during a G8 summit in Itay [sic] in July.
Can you believe this? The Vatican is snubbing the President Of The World. And on Good Friday too. Heh. I can hardly wait for Baghdad Bob to spin this one at the next presser. If, of course, anyone actually asks.
Remember Doug Kmick? Can’t wait to hear from him on this one either.
OK, so much for the snark. Good for the Vatican. This pentecostal Baptist boy (OK, old boy) is standing with the Pope on this one.
In the world of setting out to patently offend people, this President takes the cake. Even Bill Clinton was savvy enough to find a pro-life ambassador for the Vatican. Let’s face it, in the world of ambassadorial appointments, the Vatican would rate pretty low on my “critical” list. But I do think that being so tone deaf as to openly and forthrightly make an effort to offend the Vatican is off the charts, right up their with sending Winston back to #10. I have a bookmark tag for my collection of articles that I save to review and maybe comment on called “Stupidity” and this particular effort on the part of the Administration is in the top five in that category. It’s also patently offensive – or should be – to people of faith. But hey, we don’t count.
It will be really interesting to see if this is even noticed by the local press club. (I refuse to use the term “corps” as related to the “press” anymore out of respect for the Marine Corps.) I’m doubting this will make the cut since it crosses two lines. It again demonstrates the utter incompetence of the BoyPresident™ and drives the point that the CamelotThatNeverWas™ still isn’t. The Kennedy’s really are the poster dolts for inbreeding. But they don’t really stand out much in today’s Democratic Party.

And speaking of Ambassadorial appointments...
mbecker908 (Diary) Saturday, April 11th at 3:13PM EST (link)and ones that – in my anything but humble estimation – COUNT, the BoyPresident™ still hasn’t been able to find someone to trek off to the third world. China, that is. Oh well…
From Ben Smith’s Blog at Politico…
EXCUSE ME??????? Hagel? Jim Freaking Leech? (Yes, I know. But he IS a leech.) And Podesta? Well, he would be the best of that bad lot.
There is apparently a move afoot to repeal the 22nd Amendment. I think the rationale is that will take the BoyPresident™ at least four or five terms to fill all of the slots that require approval. Can you imagine if the Congress was held by Republican majorities that look like the D numbers. The Administration would consist of the BoyPresident™, his wifeything and Joey. Heh.
There is apparently a move afoot

Well, beside the House and Senate (which they already control), there’s also the problem getting it approved by all those pesky states that would have to ratify it.
From what we’ve seen of this bunch, I wonder what they may try to come up with to get around THAT problem. I’ll wager THEY’VE considered it.

I'll Be Impressed When The Vatican Actually Refuses To Meet With Obama (nt)
IJB Saturday, April 11th at 10:29PM EST (link)I have no problem with B16 meeting with
Lammo (Diary) Saturday, April 11th at 11:45PM EST (link)the former junior senator from Illinois. That one won’t be giving a homily at St. Peter’s or receiving a Papal knighthood. I would expect the meeting to go similarly to the Pope’s meeting with the Speaker of the House – - and to have a similar result. A Vatican meeting, unlike the upcoming commencement address and honorary degree at “Northwestern Indiana Humanist University” * actually has the potential for dialogue and for a teaching moment. Who knows – - never underestimate the power of prayer.
* Thanks to Most Rev. Thomas Doran – Bishop of Rockford, Illinois for the new name for the University of Notre Dame. It is certainly no longer worthy of that title.

I wonder what is Really happening...
liberalrepublican (Diary) Saturday, April 11th at 11:14PM EST (link)From the AP:
VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican is denying that it has rejected several candidates for U.S. ambassador to the Holy See because of their support for abortion rights.
Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi said Friday that he checked the reports in the American and Italian media and there is no truth to them.

I am in the middle of reading it now, but to consider ambassador appts. to the Vatican that are Post-choice would fit in with the reasons given for rejecting apointments that have included divorced, gay marriage etc. So, I can imagine the Vatican would have some problems with openly Post Choice amb. as troubling.
So it's a technicality
fishbreath (Diary) Sunday, April 12th at 2:40AM EST (link)The Vatican hasn’t actually rejected any ambassadors because the Obama administration hasn’t officially tendered any. It’s just they would reject the ambassadors if they were tendered.

Yes Doug's name is Kmiec.
mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, April 12th at 1:53AM EST (link)It was a typo on my part. I thought about fixing it, but I personally hold the scum at a level of regard that I don’t care enough to fix it. Normally I would and thanks for the note on spelling. Actually, that kind of stuff usually drives me to distraction.
Jesus: Stumbling block to the haughty & to the mighty
Hammer2008 (Diary) Sunday, April 12th at 3:06AM EST (link)1 Cor 8:9 “But make sure that this liberty of yours in no way becomes a stumbling block to the weak.”
I give thanks to the Holy See and this Easter Sunday to our Lord for giving us the liberty to stand strong for the weak, while causing those with the “Audacity of Arrogance” to stumble.
