Don’t repeat the mistakes of Britain

I don’t know how many readers on here are familiar with the recent political history of Britain, but we have seen our conservatives gain popularity and media influence, only by moving to a position most definitely in the centre, if not downright liberal.

As happens with most governments here, when a party has been in power for too long, even if they offer the voters a better choice for the future, and have a far better record, as we Conservatives did (on both counts) in 1997, the voters want a change. So they chose Tony Blair, a man who appeared to be centre-right when he was a shadow Cabinet member, and seemed most certainly an admirer of Thatcher when he was leader of the Labour party. But he was a social liberal, and our country is all the worse for it.

But just as in 1997, anything other than Thatcherite economics would not please the voters, now anything other than social liberalism seems to be too extreme for the voters, because we have had a decade of its dominance, and we have seen it replace conservatism as the mainstream ideology.

I read every now and then about conservative activists in America opposing politicians they deem to be not conservative enough – excellent. This is what our grassroots did not do – we accepted “wets” or liberals, because we, as a movement, wanted power. In doing so, we rejected conservatism, and thus allowed our views to become thoroughly un-mainstream. “Fringe”, even.

The Conservative grassroots is overwhelmingly in favour of leaving the European Union, for example, yet there are only about 20 of our Members of Parliament out of around 200 who would support it – because we allowed stylish and ambitious liberals to represent us, rather than conservatives who believe what we believe.

I hope, for the good of the conservative movement in America, that voters and activists do not repeat this mistake. And it shouldn’t be made as simple as “victory or ideology”, as some writers say: you can stay true to your ideology and still win big. It is a question of how to present an ideology, rather than how to replace it.

Socialists: Pro-Crime

An odd statement from an old “workers power” article:

Second, many of their policies are anti-working class, such as putting 10,000 more police on the streets.

This is not selective quoting – no explanation follows! Apparently, more police = bad for the working class! What utter nonsense. This sentence alone is enough to know that these particular socialists are driven by criminality, and have no intentions to make people safe from murderers and violent crime.

I would go so far as to speculate that these socialists think poor people murdering middle class people is fine, because it’s redistribution of wealth. What a disgrace.

English-Speaking Children Are a Minority in Inner-London Primary Schools

The news in Britain today is that English-speaking children are a minority in inner-London primary schools.

This completely confirms Ed West’s statement that:

London is turning into an American-style racially divided city, thanks to runaway immigration and white flight

Evidently there is white flight – the trend for white people to leave areas, and ethnic minorities to then inhabit those areas.

In Tower Hamlets [a district of London] almost four out of five youngsters do not have English as their mother tongue.

And when will they?

In the middle of a recession, I find it fanciful to suggest that classroom language assistants and suchlike are going to be high on the agenda.

Instead, immigrant families ought to be teaching themselves English and teaching their children English.

When British people move to, for example, Spain, the majority of them teach themselves Spanish, if they bother to learn the language (it’s fairly unnecessary given the global spread of English), so why can’t immigrant families teach themselves English? I’m sure some leftist, multi-culturalist fanatic will call me a “racist”, or dismiss these views as “fringe” and so on. But these views are not simply held by an extremist minority here. Day on day, there is more justification for feeling like immigrant families are not integrating successfully here. Surely it is simply a duty, as a resident of a country, to bother to learn the language – and pass it on to your children? Not under our Labour government. It’s simply a continuation of the culture of Labour – shy away from hard work, don’t bother to do anything individually, let the state do it for you.

Clearly, they simply aren’t integrating successfully, and can’t integrate successfully if they are taught from Day One that they don’t even have to.

I found this confusing:

‘We are increasing funding in the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant to £206million by 2010, to bring students weak in English up to speed. We also equip schools to offer effective English as an Additional Language teaching for new arrivals.’

Britain is Not a Christian Country

Gordon Brown is rather deluded if he thinks we in Britain live in a Christian country.

Sure, much of what is good about this country is due to the Protestant religion, but the same could be said about Canada, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, Finland, Estonia and the USA.

Certainly, most of the things Gordon Brown has had in his life, such as capitalism and the system of Parliamentary representation we have are partially thanks to Judeo-Christian thinking.

Definitely, Christianity makes, or made, the basis for many of our laws and practises -  “Christianity is part of the Common Law of England.” said Sir Matthew Hale, a Lord Chief Justice who died in 1676.

But we are not a Christian country.

We still have an established church (the Church of England), which most countries in Europe do not (on account of their church being that of Rome).

But a Christian country would not produce the levels of crime we have. A Christian country would not have promoted silly levels of personal debt. A Christian country would not produce crackheads and junkies all over the place, because Christian people are taught right from wrong.

Most importantly, a Christian country would not be under threat from another religion, which threatens to overtake Christianity itself.

A Christian country would wake up to the fact immigration is, and has been for the last 40 years, out of control.

It would wake up to the fact that Muslims in this country could easily outnumber those of us who prefer not to take صلاة‎ at فجر ,ظهر ,عصر, مَغْرِب and عشاء‎.

And most importantly, it would do something about it.

Cuba’s Lack of Toilet Paper

Cuba will soon run out of toilet paper, apparently.

I wonder if it was all worth it for Fidel if, now, 50 years on from la Revolución Cubana, they can’t even produce toilet paper.

But I can’t feel sorry for them. Marxist murderers should get what they deserve. This helps a bit.

North Korean News

If you want a good laugh, I thoroughly recommend the North Korean state news website. Here’s an example:

The Action Headquarters of the Youth and Students Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration and Urging the Lee Myung Bak “Government” to Step Down in south Korea issued a statement on August 4 denouncing the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors for its fascist suppression of workers.

Due to the Lee group’s repressive action the areas of a factory of Ssangyong Motor Co. looked like a battlefield, the statement noted, adding:

The authorities fired tear gas and used electric guns and other lethal weapons against the workers demanding the right to existence and hurled even police “commandoes” into the venue of their strike. This barbarous suppression lashed people from all walks of life into great fury.

It declared that youth and students would join the people of various social standings including the unionists of Ssangyong Motor Co. in their action.

So it questions the legitimacy of the South Korean government, and then talks about the “fascist suppression of workers”.

The non-North Korean news agencies don’t quite put it like that, surprise surprise. Here we are:

Dozens of strikers and police were injured in clashes this week. Police dropped tear gas from helicopters at workers, who shot nuts and bolts at riot police on the ground using large sling shots. The strikers also lobbed firebombs.

Totally fascist and uncalled for, clearly.
