Since I wrote my post outlining the Committeeman Project – way back in May – I have to admit that I basically abandoned the subject in all but name. Thankfully, ColdWarrior was more than kind enough to not just pick up the slack, but to lead by example and continue beating the drum both online and offline.
Recent events, and I’m including the events that led up to a “Bipartisan” who was more accustomed to warring against his own party than the opposition (he was actually praising his opponent at campaign rallies) winning our nomination last year, the selection of a Congressional candidate by party bosses that would have given the House Progressive Caucus it’s first Republican member, the reflexive preference for vapid empty platitude-mouthing “moderates” over principled conservatives, not to mention the horror that is the 111st Congress, has brought home the fact that the conservatives can no longer afford to sit on the sidelines and leave it all in the hands of professional politicians too frightened of the media and beholden to special interests and pedestrian pencil-pushing Beltway campaign consultants to make a stand for principle and fight.
As Morton Blackwell very nicely put it for us; “now is not the time to take our marbles and go home.” On the contrary, now is the time to get into the game. Now is the time to get involved to Right the ship that is the Republican Party and steer it in the Right direction. Third Parties are a waste of time and abandoning the GOP for the Bipartisans is ceding the field to the other side. And that is what the Committeeman Project is all about.
Over the past months – it needs to be said – ColdWarrior has been a true one-man recruiting army, exhorting people to join the ranks of Precinct Committeemen around the country in their counties and neighborhoods. His dedication has been nothing short of inspiring, so while I am basically restricted to just being a cheerleader on the sidelines, this contribution is dedicated in most part, to assisting his tireless efforts and for being the much-needed broken record on this subject.
The following (in this and the next four posts) is a listing of all the counties – boroughs [AK] and Parrishes [LA] – in the United States with the number of electoral precincts as on record last year and their populations as estimated in 2009 by the Census Bureau, arranged by state. The beginning of any project is knowledge, and while I may not be able to play as large as I should, this is my contribution to help things along.
Find your state, your county and get involved. Become a Precinct Committeeman. How many of your Committeeman positions are occupied, how many are vacant? Do you have content-free “moderates” heading your party apparatus? What will you do about it?

I'll be going to Caucus next year.
NightTwister (Diary) Sunday, December 20th at 9:51AM EST (link)I plan to become the committee man for my Precinct. In the past year we’ve had four vacancies that had to be filled in Larimer County. Fortunately, the candidates selected were more conservative in every case!
The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. – Winston Churchill
Nice work Martin!! And a great contribution to the effort.
nessa (Diary) Sunday, December 20th at 2:14PM EST (link)Hopefully this will push more readers over the edge and into the “inside job” that will put our Nation back on track.
“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”—Samuel Adams

Martin, thanks, but we may have reached the tipping point
ColdWarrior (Diary) Monday, December 21st at 1:26AM EST (link)I come at this from a military perspective in part. At one point in my short military career, the “go, no go” philosophy with respect to training held sway. The Army strived to set an objective standard in training. If you met the standard, you passed. You were a “go.” Fail to meet the standard, you were a “no go.” You failed.
We conservatives are failing. We know what to do. We just don’t do it. Oh, we have all sorts of excuses. An anecdotal example. A few weeks ago I attended in Phoenix a luncheon hosted by the Arizona Republican Party Lawyers Association. A young lawyer asked Sen. John McCain, the featured guest speaker, something along the lines of, “Why won’t the Republicans in Congress fight on principle, and, where are the leaders who will?”
At the conclusion of the luncheon, after McCain and his minions beat a hasty retreat, I introduced myself to the young lawyer and asked whether he was a Republican Party precinct committeeman. Nope. Why not? Oh, you know, he’s got small children, and, you know, he’d like to spend time with them.
I told him I, too, have small children. I, too, want to (and do) spend time with them. But I try to carve out a couple of hours a month to be a voting member of the party. I told him I don’t want my children to live under socialism. I gave him my card and my precinct committeeman recruitment flyer.
Never heard from him.
This is the problem.
Thank you.
ColdWarrior
In 2012, will YOU become a “voting member” of the Republican Party in your precinct?
