Stop playing their game. Don’t allow them to control the interview. Even bring
up topics and ask them questions. Make them defend their positions.

The “I hope he fails” episode was not a good one for us and it certainly had a negative effect on Tedisco’s campaign, though not nearly as much as Tedisco’s waffling on the Debtulus Bill because consultants told him Obama was popular … It’s up there in the diary.

when going on tv, you have to be careful about not sneering and appearing holier than thou- that’s what Contessa Brewer is doing here. Ziegler is effective because he’s finds ironic humor in MSNBC’s position, and Brewer can’t get around that.

MIlquetoasty Frum and David Brooks don’t know how to attack.

Lynn Cheney and Ziegler understand how to deal with the media: treat them for the enemy they are and question their assumptions from the getgo.

Ziegler did well to stay with Brewer without getting cut off earlier.

I did keep waiting for “You can’t handle the truth, Contessa!”

The downside is that the other state run media outlets will not have Ziegler on now that they realize he doesn’t roll over and play dead for their ditzy hosts.

the thrill of the rudeness was too much.
His handling of the situation is a model for dealing with left wing scum. They are a delicate bunch considering what they dish out. First she defends a joke about what is statutory rape, though it’s only the daughter of a Republican, then she complains of how she was treated by John, like all liberals , wallowing in self pity.
Savages, one and all.
I understand Letterman is now claiming he was talking about Palin’s older daughter, now that makes a big difference doesn’t it?

I like the shot across the bow to start the interview, where Ziegler took control.
He did address #1 (“W-we’ll change topics”). I think he also addressed 2-3 together, maybe not in the detail you cited.

He SO got inside her head (“We invited you here…Cut the mike, please“). Now THAT’s comedy.

I have been saying this for what seems like an eternity now.

Converatives have NO HOPE of restoring the Constitution or capitalism unless and until we confront the 10 million ton elephant in the room that is the media bias.

Think about it, they control the information. As long as they cover for the liberals and assail us, we have no chance at getting through to the public at large.

I only wish that some of the spineless GOP elected officials would follow Ziegler’s lead. The words “media”, “journalist” and “press” should never be uttered on air without the word “liberal” preceeding them. ALL conservatives should follow this rule. It needs to sink into the minds of the masses that they should handicap everything they see or hear in the media for the built-in bias that it contains.

It’s great to see someone confront the mainstream and not play to their strengths.

This is not a critique of your post. I want to emphasize something you wrote. The McCain’s of the world (Please someone put him out of our misery in the primary.) are more than happy to attack the GOP on these shows, because it gets more face time for them.

I couldn’t agree more.

I very much agree – there’s no point to conservatives or Republicans going on these shows and treating the hosts as anything but the enemy. To expect fair play or equal treatment or anything along those lines is lunacy. The sooner the leadership accepts this fact and begins to respond accordingly, the sooner the public will begin to see the truth. We need to stop allowing liberals to define the debate and fight back against the slander and the lies that are thrown at us. I’d reckon that if a national poll was taken, most newspeople would be right up (down?) there with lawyers and politicians in terms of likability. Most people would love to see Chris Matthews et al taken down a few pegs on their own show. Let’s start doing it.

…And not Tedisco’s ridiculous waffling on Obama’s stimulus bill?!

From everything I’ve heard, it was almost exclusively the latter that led to Tedisco losing – he was a terrible candidate.

You can’t blame Rush Limbaugh for that.

I know the point you’re trying to make here, but I think this is one place that this diary doesn’t make its point.

(Note: This is only one ancillary point in a diary that I pretty much overwhelmingly agree with…)
