I have just been touchy about Rush lately since we know the left is trying to marginalize him and split him from the "acceptable" conservative opposition. Certainly Levin is not acceptable to them, that is why I like him :)

This post, however, is pointing out the new tactics (aka the politics of destruction) that are being used against one of the conservative standard bearer. Support or don't support Palin, this tactic is scary because we are moving from a "destroy her political life" to "destroy her political and financial life". If they use it on someone you don't like today, they can use it on someone you DO like tomorrow.

Agree or disagree with Palin as a standard bearer, we should seek to stop this kind of destruction ASAP. I think there are legal changes that should be made to encourage this kind of behavior to go away.

focus on 2010 more than 2012 right now. Unless Palin decides to run against an incumbent for a Senate seat, she will not be in the 2010 discussion. It is imperative that we reduce the Democrat advantage in the Senate and that we take back the House of Representatives ASAP.

You are right that the Palin/Jindal/Sanford/fill in the Presidential candidate that you like discussion is not productive right now. ALL are capable of expressing the conservative message--the more the merrier. What I want to know is who is going to run against Evan Bayh for Indiana Senator in 2010 (and dozens of other races) and what tactics do we use to get them elected.

There are a lot of great conservatives out there who can fill the bill. Palin's fine, but as you say - there is a LOT of time between now and then, and the three potential leaders you list are also at or near the top of my list as well.

Great points.

...because she would keep the Democratic party honest. If they steamroll the 2012 election, then everyone loses. But Palin's unique strengths as a candidate will force the Democratic party to work hard and stay lean.

The more we jump at the carrots of scandal, the less time we have to come up with a real message and a start of putting that message into action. We've got a lot of catching up to do if we're going to turn away these crazy making government policies and that needs to be done long before we even think about 2012.

I'm just giving you the opportunity to indicate your opposition to these tactics when you have given a brief comment that I read as sarcastic.

It might be nice if you would say why you would hope that Palin runs.

slipped into our lives while we fight about what happens in 4 years. If we don't pay attention to the here and now, we may not have to worry what happens in 4 years. We may not have an opportunity to cast our votes as we please to any effect at all. Heads up folks!

I've been watching upthread the argument taking place and I have a proposal that might help all of you.

Achance doesn't like Palin and it appears he has his reasons and he has listed them more than once. Others like her a lot and appear to have their reasons, too, and have listed their reasons more than once.

Reagan was a Democrat before he became the conservative standard. Everybody is entitled to be human. Palin is human. We are not Democrats to place our politicians on pedestals reaching into the stratosphere. Instead, we expect them to screw up because they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

She was inexperienced as governor when tapped for VP, although what she had done record-wise seemed impressive. The behind the scenes stuff is what Achance knows and it has colored his picture of much of the rest of the country's conservative hope.

Obsessing over Palin or any other potential candidate at this point is a futile endeavor. We have several possibilities up and coming in the GOP. I'm not wedded to any particular person at the moment. Why not focus on what they're doing now and how those doings play out instead of wrangling over every little perceived misstep?

Just a month ago, people were talking about how bad Jindal came off in response to Obama's first press conference. Last night, there was a second look at Jindal and he was very impressive indeed.

Guess what? They're all human.

Can't we, please, stop wrangling over whether Palin is a Goddess or a Lilith? Right now, we need to focus on the empty suit of a president we have, not one we want for 2012 considering it's a long way off yet.

Let's take care of now and when the time is right, we'll get the candidate we need or deserve... or both, if we're lucky. We have to deserve good conservative leaders as much they have to deserve the role of good conservative leader.

Not everybody here knows how governments work and what is really involved in being an elected or appointed official. Frankly, most are better off not knowing; sausage and laws and all that.

Her skills would have found a good vessel. Moreover, Vice President of the US is probably the federal elected office for which one has the least need of a loyal cadre of political operatives.

Though being able to function effectively as a VP under a President like John McCain while keeping faith with the conservative who voted for her would have likely required magician skills (and/or Houdini skills) that I doubt she has. Now if Hillary had been McCain's VP...

Regular State employees have to sign off on a specific form that sets out the State's policy regarding electronic resources and which makes it clear that you have no privacy. I don't know what a new elected or appointed official gets but I suspect somebody does it all for them and just hands it to them and says, "Sign this."

Under Alaska law, even a letter would become public record once it was delivered to the State unless it fell into a very limited scope of privilege.

It goes back to her hissy fit when she was with AOGCC and her kiss and tell departure from the Administration. An AOGCC Commissioner's slot at the time was the sweetest patronage appointment in State government, lots of money, lots of travel, lots of elbow-rubbing in Houston, New York, even London, and no real job except to go to meetings and sign something once in a while. I know what happened with her self-styled outing of Randy Ruedrich and it isn't what she has all her supporters out there believing.

In politics, you dance with who brung you. She is the black widow of Alaska politics who has built her career on the dead bodies of everybody who ever helped her. You guys all like her and I was really hoping she and McCain would win because I'd much rather she be in DC than here.

in FL all the state emails have this public disclosure type of sig line on them. Even the govenors contact us page has a warning to write a letter instead of an email that all emails are public and the media can request them. I can't imagine she didn't know that being the govenor herself.
