I don’t know much about Vitter’s campaign, the comment was more towards the general Republican behavior of disavowing anyone who has fallen into a moral hazard. When you said, “as Republicans have abandoned colleagues under fire” I had in mind the case of Jack Ryan, who was scandalized by his participation in S&M clubs while bringing his wife along.

The Illinois Repubs, as you recall, treated him radioactively. Is there something immoral about S&M that I need to get a memo on? Something as glib as “well, he’s got his own taste and we all have our own,” could have probably defused the issue and made it a laughing point.

Your third point, gleaned from a woefully inadequate three-sentence comment of mine, is grossly uninformed. Moral standards are worth aspiring to, it’s just that what I have seen is that the rush to judgment and the need to disavow for fear of guilt by association has taken precedence as a response.

They just watched their leaders, i.e. Shays, Johnson, Bass, etc. get rejected by their voters. Probably realized “moderation”, contrary to what they had been told, actually doesn’t sell all that well.

They do not accept us conservatives. Since the elction there has been much more toss the G-O-D out of the G-O-P than getting rid of RINO’s

That said there has been a steady drumbeat to get rid of RINO’s “only” when they vote against core conservative principals time and time again.

I would welcome a Guliani senate run, or any pro-choice congressman if he stood for low taxes, smaller government, less regulation and a strong national defense.

The Republican party cannot accept politicians that voted for the stimulas or other left wing crap. That is as far out of the conservative mainstream as Bernie Sanders.

A moderate Dem is one who talks like an R and votes like a SF democrat. A moderate R is one who talks like a moderate and votes like a D.

We lose. As soon as some of those moderates come through for us on clutch votes, I’ll lose my contempt for them. Right now, they gave us a trillion dollars in Porkulus.

we must restore to the Republican Party. The business of lying Democrats trying to out-Republican Republicans can be defeated fairly easily. Not many people here were happy with Lisa Murkowski’s appointment and she didn’t have a reputation as much of a conservative when she was in the Legislature. Tony Knowles was far and away the strongest D here, and a master of being a better sounding Republican than most Republicans. So, we just hung his DC and San Francisco friends around his neck and Lisa won re-election pretty handily.

You can do this to any of them that ran as the un-Republican Republican and now have to be a caucus vote on most things or they won’t get any goodies for the district.

The positions they ran on are the opposite of what our Republicans moderates are known for. What you suggest doesn’t make any sense. do you think that if we put up a pro abortion Moderate republican that they would win against the Moderate dem who is running as pro life. If you do then you haven’t been paying attention.

First of all, I remember Vitter’s campaign – he didn’t run on a “morality” platform, so what I’m seeing here is that just because he’s a Republican, you’re assuming he did.

Second, by the time he ran for the Senate in ’04, he had already confessed to his wife years before, she had forgiven him and presumably he had stopped patronizing prostitutes.

Third, your comment in its entirety illustrates a worldview that ultimately rejects any form of standard of behavior – because we’re all human and therefore flawed, and therefore we will all fall short of our ideals.

Speaking for myself, I’d much rather have those ideals – those moral standards, even knowing that I will fall short of them, than to have none at all so people like you won’t call me a “hypocrite.”
