The New York Times rejects John McCain’s reply to Obama

But David Shipley gives him a chance to try again.

John McCain has been given a failing grade by New York Times opinion editor Dave Shipley, who quickly vacated the premises for his vacation but told McCain that he could have a do-over.

Drudge reports that John McCain submitted an editorial to the lefty New York Times last week, only to have it be rejected as not Obama-esque enough by Times opinion editor David Shipley: “I’m not going to be able to accept this piece as currently written.”

Nothing short of Obama’s vacuous prosaic cadence and mind-numbingly mastery of nonsense will do for the Old Gray Drunk Lady. Check it out:

Shipley, who is on vacation this week, explained his decision not to run the editorial.

‘The Obama piece worked for me because it offered new information (it appeared before his speech); while Senator Obama discussed Senator McCain, he also went into detail about his own plans.’

Shipley continues: ‘It would be terrific to have an article from Senator McCain that mirrors Senator Obama’s piece. To that end, the article would have to articulate, in concrete terms, how Senator McCain defines victory in Iraq.’

Bias has both a “B” and an “S.”

Why not compare McCain’s piece and Barry’s?

Drudge has the complete McCain Op/Ed in the space linked above. He asserts that Obama is naïve and dangerous, and he lays out why he thinks that way. Obama’s piece from last Monday attacks McCain and consists not of reasoned arguments but instead, worn talking points leftover which have been written and uttered by spokesmen for the sundry anti-military groups.

When the paper publish one candidates asinine campaign speech masked as an Op/Ed but refuse to publish his opponents rebuttal, that is a blatant attempt to condition the minds of their readers. There is no balance. Obama has suckered Shipley, and this has corroded his judgment.

The New York Times, I am afraid, has now lost all pretense of being an unbiased… Stop! Wait! That last sentence is about a decade too old, just as the Obama piece is at least two-years embedded in quasi-historical fiction. I’ll rephrase: It’s the New York Times, talking to themselves again.

Freedom is lost when it is wasted.

hunter (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 12:56PM EST (link)

The NYT is long since past simply ‘wasting’ its freedom.
By setting itself as a partisan promoter, it is not really any different from talk radio, which the NYT seeks to suppress.
They think this will insure them control of the public square. It only guarnatees that their turn is coming.

Ridiculous.

Brandon (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 1:02PM EST (link)

I just sent this response to the NYT’s. I hope it meets Sir Shipley’s criteria, of course I’m not the anointed one.

Dear David Shipley:

The decision by the New York Times editorial staff to not print John McCain’s editorial response to Senator Obama’s plan for Iraq is just further proof that the New York Times is no longer a serious journalistic enterprise, but instead a illegitimate and failing liberal editorial magazine. I’m not even going to mention the gossip column trash you printed about the Senator and a lobbyist, because unlike the New York Times – I’m not in the business of spreading lies.

There is no justification for your failure to print John McCain’s editorial. Barack Obama has not been anointed President. Unfortunately for you Mr. Shipley, in America he must be elected and the American people deserve to hear from both candidates; not just the hip cool one who has been endorsed by your former boss (Bill Clinton).

Furthermore, stating that you would be willing to accept another draft is belittling and insulting towards a Presidential candidate. How many drafts was Barack Obama required to submit? I’m guessing there should be at least one draft for each of the previous positions Senator Obama has held in regards to Iraq within the last 3 weeks or so.

Perhaps Senator Obama should have waited until his return from Iraq to before developing this “plan”. John McCain developed his successful strategy after many successive trips to Iraq and consultations with the generals and troops on the ground. Senator Obama instead thought it was appropriate to develop a strategy and THEN go visit with the generals and troops.

Back when the surge was just getting started, Obama described it as a “continuation of failed policy” and instead called for immediate troop withdrawals. Simply put, Senator Obama could not have been more wrong. The surge has made Iraq safer for our troops and the Iraqi people. If he had consulted with generals prior to the surge, as Senator McCain did, perhaps Obama would have had the fortitude to stand up for an unpopular yet much needed change in strategy, as McCain did.

Once again Obama is showing the same reckless behavior he showed at the start of the surge; developing a policy position for political points and without talking with generals on the ground and with complete disregard to facts on the ground.

Is this really the kind of change we want? Or do we want the kind of successful change that Senator McCain risked his campaign on, the kind of change which has made our troops safer and a stable democratic state being the outcome in Iraq a reality?

For everyone but the New York Times, I would presume the answer is clear.

Sincerely,
Brandon . ***

I think NYT has a right

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 1:47PM EST (link)

not publish McCain’s editorial. Anyway, that’s the essence why we, Republicans and Conservatives, oppose Fairness Doctrine of Pelosi. Don’t get me wrong. Let NYT reject and lambast the McCain Editorial. This will make the said Editorial more interesting for many people. And in saying that, why not look for other medium where the Editorial can reach its intended readers.

*As Brandon said, instead of an Editorial, why not publish it as an Ad. *

Sadly to us, the Ad would mean “additional cost” to us. Sadly to NYT, we now have the right that NYT is the official paper of the Socialists and Communists acting like liberals (or briefly Dems Party). We must now declare NYT as the Far Left democrat-run paper. And that means only one thing: we can read the paper freely at the web or borrow it from our friendly dems; but don’t buy that paper or any of NYT stuff.)

Gosh, I can’t even call it a newspaper. It’s just like the HuffPo.

HuffPo is better than NYT

RedFox84 Monday, July 21st at 2:00PM EST (link)

Costs less, accessible by more people, accessible 24 hours a day rather than just the time its’ printed, utilizes fewer natural resources…

So really, it’s not like HuffPo that much at all.

Don't Buy an Ad - Banish All NYT Reporters from the McCain Campaign

IJB Monday, July 21st at 2:05PM EST (link)

Buying an ad plays to these guys’ game.

The GOP needs to stop playing their game.

No more engagement.
CUT THEM OFF.

Give the NYT nothing. Don’t talk to their reporters. Fire any staffer that talks to their reporters. Give them nothing.

Finally reduce them to talking among themselves inside the leftist echo-chamber.

And in so doing, render them irrelevant (and probably financial insolvent, as well).

Reward truly “non-biased” (and also “friendly”) news organizations. Embargo the rest.

The days of a mostly “unbiased” and “objective” Press and Media are over. The sooner we as a Party accept that, and start acting accordingly, the better off we’ll be.

YOUR IDEA IS PERFECTLY BRILLIANT.

And why not? all those reporters did was to write horrible things about McCain. What is McCain paying those two-faced reporters for, anyway?

LET NYT SUFFER!!!!!!

Not only banish the NYT, but do it loudly. Make sure the world knows that the Times and its leftist lackeys are not welcome anywhere near a McCain event, speech, etc. Furthermore, the RNC should also ban the Times from the Republican Convention, and again – do it with as much fanfare as possible.

McCain should too…then laugh at the media saying he is trying to silence them…which they most assuredly will do.
Seriously, a Republican can’t cut off anyone from the MSM. They would flay him alive. I’d love to see McCain do it anyway…he seems the type that could pull it off.

What about allowing them access…then telling any reporter from the NYT that asks a question: “I’d love to answer your question if you submitted it again after it mirrors a question from FOX news.

With the free publicity, McCain should publish his OpEd in the NY Post, WaPo, WSJ. Pick one, and they would have taken it, just to show up the Times.

Maybe even USA Today would have taken the chance.

At least it’s getting McCain some free press. If they had just run it and said nothing, it would have come and gone, but now people will pay attention to it. The full piece is now up at Drudge, more people read that than the nyt.

I hate the Fox News site–if you try to increase the print size their sidebar ads cover the content.

I liked McCain’s comment, “The Iraqis are also still learning how to conduct planning, logistics, command and control, communications, and other complicated functions needed to support frontline troops.”

This was the army that Sam Donaldson was telling us would overwhelm the US in the first Gulf war. Hilarious.

NYTimes "conservative" opiners are potted plants

Freedoms Truth (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 4:56PM EST (link)

) McCain’s editorial was by far more credible, newsworthy and readable the Kristol’s numbing space-filler.

That’s why the NYTimes runs these guys instead of real blood-and-guts conservatives. They don’t threaten the dominant liberal paradigm.

Can you imagine the NYTimes having an oped titled like this?
“Gay Marriage – assault on Western civilization”
“The Democrat Congress’ 18 months of kleptocratic incompetence”

Not! They run stuff that makes liberal feel like they are reading what conservatives are thinking without getting uncomfortable about it. These guys are potted plant conservatives; zoo animals not allowed to do things or be real conservatives, for fear the liberal readers might actually get educated.

I’d like to be proven wrong by having them run Coulter, Sowell, or the like. Wont happen.

Potted plants, hmmm....

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 5:07PM EST (link)

I like it.

But are there really conservatives in NYTimes? Those whom you’re referring to are actually democrats who are acting as ambassadors of goodwill (aka appeasers) to the conservatives.

After all, NYT also loves the profit they can get from the conservatives, not just from the dems.

Potted-plant conservatives at NYT

Freedoms Truth (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 5:18PM EST (link)

“But are there really conservatives in NYTimes? “

They are either faux-conservatives or neutered potted-plant ones, that’s my point. Neither Kristol nor Brooks are Democrats. Kristol is a conservative, but he’s of the neocon, McCainiac, inside-the-beltway mold. Mike Savage he is not! David Brooks was that ‘balance’ to Mark Shields on the Lehrer show, but he’s an observer not an advocate, and his advice to conservatives is lately abysmal. Patrick Ruffini dissected his latest erroneous advice on Next Right, and see also my blog on this: Big Govt conservatism is an oxymoron.

“NYT also loves the profit they can get from the conservatives, not just from the dems.”
I think under Pinch, his deranged liberalism has long-since overwhelmed any business sense he might have had. He’s running the business into the ground in part due to his political biases, by his allowing such biases to undermine both good journalism and good business.

Exactly Why McCain Has Nothing to Lose

buckeye (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 7:14PM EST (link)

This is why McCain has nothing to lose by throwing the NYT off the campaign and boycotting them all together. I can probably count the NTY readers left in play for McCain on one hand. More to be gained by exposing them and the rest of the MSM as partisan hacks.

The 50 – 60% of the country that still bases their political opinions on what the NYT and their MSM followers have to say are largely out of play for Republicans and will continue to be out of play as long as we play the charade, giving them credibility. Start with the NYT, NBC and Reuters on the no more access list. There’s plenty of recent justification.

I smell money when NYT turned down McCain's Editorial

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 8:04PM EST (link)

NYT people’s eyes are fixed to Obama huge campaign funds. Obama’s money can be NYT staff’s temporary “bread and butter” for the mean time.

Ironically, it’s NYT who was so eager to callously declare this period as a “recession”.

Advice to NYT: Shout RECESSION harder to create shilling and trembling sounds that will scare away all your stock buyers in the market.

Pull Press Badges

dld1717 (Diary) Monday, July 21st at 9:09PM EST (link)

The NYTimes is no longer even trying to hide its bias and is no way an independent forum of the press and with that the McCain camp should pull all press badges.

Its revolting what the Times did here but of course they won’t print an op-ed which shows we are winning in Iraq because of the surge McCain and Bush pushed forward on while Obama and Times wanted to cut and run on.
