I'm curious what is hurting Corzine. Is it personal, or are these issues that are easily extrapolated upon Democratic policies? I would be more excited about the latter - also goes to the great debate in the Republican Party - reach for moderation or stay true to core concepts. We're told that we can't win in New England unless we "moderate" - anything in this race that supports or refutes that assertion? I would think that the exodus from Northern states to Southern would help people realize that Democratic economics don't work, for example.

Never count out New Jersey Dems. Remember when Torricelli was losing in polls and Dems did a last minute switcheroo with Lautenberg. Dems could run Obama wanna bee Corie Booker who is Newarks mayor. Or perhaps bring Bill Bradley back. They always have something up their slimy sleeves,

I think they would if they could get away with it. The trouble is twofold. One, it would be awfully tough to remove Corzine from the ballot after the president has come to campaign for him. And two, there is no other Democrat with the name ID and credibility to run. Unless they wanted to take a flyer on Menendez.

That said, it is NJ. So keep watching.

Even Dems are losing hope. The liberal blog, Swing State Project, is now rating this Lean R. They don't feel too hopeful. I am especially excited that nearly 20% of Dems are for Christie....

If the polls do not move, would the NJ Dems attempt the Torricelli Option with Corzine?

Goldman Sachs is getting a lot of negative press and a lot of people are very angry at them. If I were Christie I'd tout the Corzine, Goldman corruption connection a little bit.

Chris Cristie has all but locked up this race.

Although NJ is a Democrat state on the national level, and also for most federal races, it is far more competitive in state races, as former Governor Whitman's elections showed. Plus, at this point, with the Democrats in full control over the U.S. government at all levels, Corzine cannot save himself by blaming the economy on the "evil" Republicans. Thus, he has two choices: to defend his poor record in NJ, and/or muddy Christie's crime fighting record. Unfortunately for Corzine, his own economic approval ratings are in the 30's-40's, and he has problems breaking 40% in all the polls I have seen. Thus, the first choice is not possible, and all he can do is attack Christie's crime record. But because the economy is the major issue here, and Corzine has no credibility on it, his attacks on Christie's crime record have no effect.

Unless Christie screws up his campaign in a major way, or has some huge scandal that we don't know about, this race is over.

PS: The Republicans have more of an edge here than they do in Virginia. Go figure.
