When Iran and/or NKorea launched the first test ICBM (and don’t BS yourself, these are NOT telcomm satelites) there should have been a sub or surface ship nearby to use them for skeet practice. The internal domestic loss of prestige would have quickly replaced either of both of these tin-plate dog-eating despots, and signalled to the world that at least SOMEONE wouldn’t be willing to eat a nuke and say, “Thank you sir, may I have another.”

Alternatively we could send Secretary “Attack Dog” Clinton over there to talk to them.

THIS is your 3am phone call? REALLY? How long has NK been testing their nuclear and/or missle capabilities? I know they had the freakin’ laughable missle test at the beginning of the year but I think their last nuclear test was in 2003. Could someone link me the post saying GWBush is being pushed around cos hes a big puss? I’ll be waiting with baited breath.
The truth is, we can’t do anything, nor should we until NK makes the first move. We can’t put troops in harms way because unlike Iraq, we know they have WMD’s FOR REALSIES THIS TIME! Secondly, their delivery capability is like 50 miles from their laughable test a few months ago as I mentioned. We need to pressure Russia and China to put them in the vice, but to advocate any military action now or to use this as an excuse for Obama’s weakness is willfully ignorant of the last 15 years. I’ll be waiting for that link.

The diary states that Obama announced his Supreme Court pick to distract the American public from unpleasant news abroad that would damage his approval numbers and bring unwelcome scrutiny from the media to his policies.

Are we damning Obama for his failed policy in North Korea or damning him for being a smart politician who seeks to control media discourse. The former is legitimate, the latter is something I’ve read hundreds of times on this site vis-a-vis Bush.

Also, this diary involves a post hoc fallacy.

I can not stress how critical our response is to this action by North Korea. We can not use our wussy Albright/Clinton/Obama diplomacy and logic to explain the actions of North Korea. It is quickly becoming a serious, and I may be wrong and I hope I am, but we are on the verge of seeing a catastrophe in Seoul or Japan. North Korea is acting like a cornered rat with nothing left to do but lash out. Folks, NoKo is playing a dangerous game and MAD can not be relied upon. The North has nothing to lose with a nuclear strike, why would the US conduct a retaliatory strike against a country that only has two atomic weapons when we could use convention munitions to destroy the regime. Most of NoKo already looks like the stone age.

I’m all for ‘engagement’… with missiles. Since Seoul is only 38 miles from the 38th (well within range of rocket-assisted artillery) we won’t be taking stern measures against N Korea until Seoul evacuates and/or is willing to give up some (quite a few, actually) civilian lives.

As long as it is a litmus test for Republicans that you be for right to work and against compelled fees, the unions and a majority of their members are NEVER going to vote Republican. That doesn’t mean much in the mostly non-union South but it means a lot in the purple and blue states and a lot even in union red states like mine. You won’t find any Sarah Palin quotes on right to work, dues, or EFCA. You all know that I’m no fan of hers, but she’ smart enough that she hasn’t tilted with that windmill.
