She said "Me and my dad watch your show every night" and her sister who differs with her on issues like gay marriage have debates every once in a while when she is home (from the service I think). So it sounds like she definately leans conservative or is at least open to it.

And yes this exercise could easily expand into a diary....feel free to do just that..I think it would be a really good one...or at least get a lot of comments...;^)

I think you have a pretty good grasp of the concept of federalism....the simplified version being that whatever is not enumerated within the Constitution as Federal business defaults to the States.

Limited Gov't....to me falls in line with the first questions answer...they are symbiotic so to speak.

Social safety net...for me we will support those who *can't* support themselves...but those who *won't* while still being able don't need my money to get a leg up...they need my motivation.

National Defense...I am a Veteran too and have worked in Defense contracts until just recently...no reason to recuse yourself....so what if you happen to also benefit from you support for a strong defense.

Social issues...as long as no Constitutional rights are being violated..I say keep it at the lowest level giving the people who are most affected by it the power to influence it.

I don't think we are that far apart...maybe just in the margins.

I took your test. and it was a thought provoking exercise. Here's a short response, as each of your questions could be explored in volumes.

Do you believe in the concept of Federalism?

Yes -- if Federalism is defined and applied as a central government and state government compact with enumerated responsibility. I do not agree with some definitions of Federalism that advocate an overarching Federal pre-eminence, nor do I agree with the notion that the State should have absolute sovereignty.

Do you believe in in a limited Fed Gov’t?

Yes, but "limited" as practically applied, is subjective. The devil is in the definition of those limits. The Constitution does set limits. but procedurally, the application of these limits has been argued since our founding. Ain't that America!

Do you believe in a Social Safety Net for only the truly needy?

No -- because "truly needy" is again, too subjective. I believe in a social obligation (safety net) to our young from conception to 18 yrs, to our elderly, those 65 and older, and to those that are disabled. Since everyone will pass through one or more of these constituencies at some point, then in the interim, if you are able-bodied, you are on your own.

Do you believe in a strong National Defense?

Yes -- But...I recuse myself from going beyond that because I have a bias. I'm former military and have worked all my life in defense related companies.

Do you believe that Social Issues should be handled at the lowest possible level of Gov’t..(i.e. state, county)?

No -- If those issues impinge on the protection of human equality and access.
Yes -- If those issues are about the cultural interests of the community.

So, there it is.

it appears someone was smacked down behind close doors for jumping the gun on the condemnation of Miss California. This official statement is exactly what I expected to hear from the Miss CA officials. Good for them, I commend them for coming out in support of her speaking her mind on a touchy subject that already had prejudice minds in the audience.

Official statement regarding miss ca usa 2009 final answer controversy

I am proud of Carrie Prejean’s beauty and placement at the 2009 MISS USA pageant. I support Carrie’s right to express her personal beliefs even if they do not coincide with my own. I believe the subject of gay marriage deserves a great deal more conversation in order to heal the divide it has created.

but supporting traditional marriage does not make you a full blown conservative. On the other hand, very few liberals support such an idea.

First of all, for the record, I never sad that she was not a conservative. And for the record, I never said that her answer was not conservative.I am simply saying that her stance on gay marriage -- which is laudable and which I agree with and what I do think is "conservative" -- does not make her a conservative.

As I alluded to in my comments above, I know plenty of people who are pro-life and pro-marriage and are diehard, and often self-described, liberals. For eight years we have had to endure a pro-life liberal who tried to pass himself off as a conservative in the White House while we conservatives tried to pass him off as one of us. And for all our loyalty we got MediCare Part D and bank bailouts. And, for that matter, a real live socialist in the White House: as Michelle Malkin says, "Bush pre-socialized America for Obama." Why are we so willing to rush headlong into possibly making those same mistakes again?

I do think the "social issues" are a very important part of conservatism but they alone neither define nor make someone a conservative!

Thank you for being honest and forthright as well as beautiful. You may have lost a title, but your spirit and determiation should carry you far in life and I wish only the best for you. As for Perez Hilton, there is not enough money in the world to make me approve or you or your beliefs. Personally, I could care less if a human wants to have an intimate relationship with a goat, but why the rest of us have to subscribe to this lunacy escapes me, and, I won't. My only regret is that Perez' mother and father didn't pick same sex partners before they married and produced him. If the Liberals will stop trying to tell us how to live our lives long enough to realize that same sex unions produce no offspring and thus no tax payers to shell out the money to support their lavish lifestyles, they might think more positively about marriage between a man and a woman. I am still trying to figure out why this subject commands national attention. Having lived seventy-five years, never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that our nation would come to this. Further, how can we ever expect our relationship with the Islamic world to ever get any closer when they know we promote same sex marriage, which to them is an abomination of the lowest order. I wonder what Obama will answer when Ahmadinejad asks him if he believes in same sex marriage? Careful, Obama, you may lose your crown!

has caused such a firestorm around Ms. Prejean, that I don't recall hearing much about the winner of late.
Now imagine if the winner was of the same fiber of Ms. California, that she somehow, made a decision that she couldn't go on withing the year. That would REALLY light up Ms California's rolle as Ms. USA.

...the Dipsy Twits apologized for their "We're ashamed Bush is from Texas" comment.

Then a few months later, they said their apology wasn't true.

I'm sure she was nervous; I'm sure it was played up because she's a beauty queen from a "hick" Red State; I'm certain she's probably not the airhead she seems in the video.

If she was confused on the question, she should have asked for the young lady to repeat it. I'd say the young lady is probably bright enough to get through a friendly interview, but clearly not all the lights are on upstairs...

you fit the stereotype that men have of women! Unfortunately, somewhere along the line appreciation of the woman and traditional womanhood has been ransacked by a bunch of realy ugly women. Now, I am not talking about superficial beauty, but a beauty that eminates from that internal confidence, honestly and yes femininity. News to the liberal women, you lack these traits, you come off selfish, thoughtless, and yes nagging. Sorry to break the news, but your act is pretty much an act of a woman uncomfortable in their skin; therefore, you decided that men should suffer in your misery that is what we call the double standard that has been instituted.

Next, Ms Perez Hilton, you act like the liberal woman, ugly, and whinny. Maybe, if you really want to attract that man you should take a note from Miss California and grow up. Pathetic, I am still fired up over this moo-ron today.

More news for liberal women, you know when men complain about their nagging wives or women they are talking about you. So deal with it. There i said it I must be a masculinist. What's that you say, Ms liberal, I am a male chauvinist, well I am no different than a feminist. So, what you are saying is that you are a female chauvinist. Perez=self hating woman. Argghhh, since when can he judge a woman, sheesh, the world is backwards?
