I have always believed that when one gives a candid, extemporaneous answer it is generally the most truthful and reliable. That is why retorts in history similar to Mr. Obama’s remarks on the Gates Affair have seemingly eternal longevity and leave such deep impressions. It is also essentially why Mr. Obama wants to change the subject and not let us dwell on his remarks.
Mr. Obama can try as he might to change words that have already been spoken. But lasting perceptions have been made which are fairly immutable. It is in one sense confirmation of what people have often heard about Mr. Obama – but some did not believe; that he is an ideologically driven person with very deep seated views that are contrary to our countries basic principals. The signs have been there all along for those who are open to honest, intellectual observation.
Mr. Obama’s Ghetto Economics are based on fiscally irresponsible, outdated and illogical theories which surmise that if we just steal enough from the rich guys, our planet would be a better place. These theories promote false hope, destroying a sense of community and fellowship which more correctly represents America’s essence. They are further promoted and enforced by Ghetto Politics, which use the proverbial point of a gun in legislative sessions to gain compliance- silencing those who would otherwise speak out in opposition and defiance. That is not democracy, it is ideological oppression and soft tyranny. Every community in our country without exception should be offended.
Personally, I am not angry- just extremely disappointed. In the world in which I grew up people were called friend, boss, acquaintance and so on. I honestly believed that is what equality meant. Yet Mr. Obama again reminds us there are still divisive relics who see this country in other terms such as black, white, rich, poor, abused, neglected, racist and jaded. Post racial President? Hardly. He is the quintessential antithesis of what makes this country great.
Mr Obama’s words and actions betray his real agenda. They help us further understand his motivation behind an plan which is truly based on seizing power, destroying individual liberty and recasting America in some foreign, self-destructive way. It is the quintessential essence of his “change” theme in motion- to change us into something we are not; a mob of self serving individual groups determined to destroy each other in the name of parochial motives, class envy and other socialist proclivities.
Mr. Obama’s downfall will be that many of us still remember history and the driving force behind what makes this country great. That in times of crisis and challenge we pull together as one nation to preserve our liberty and independence. No sir, the mob won’t rule and we will not destroy our neighbors to steal his bread or usurp his possessions. We will come together and promote a common defense against the type of encroachment and divisiveness you represent. That is not only our history but future destiny.

penguin2 (Diary) Saturday, July 25th at 1:37PM EST (link)This country elected an individual who has nothing in common with the average American. Your statement that “he is the antithesis of what makes this country great” is absolutely true. He is a man alienated from the American culture. And I have just realized it has little to do with whatever country he was born or raised in, though I recognize the cultural impact. It is more about his Marxist ideology and global citizenship or in his case, savior of the world, construct.
Along with this realization, he is not the only one who is out of touch with what it means to be an American; all of his elitist friends and cohorts are part of this same group who seek to make America into something she is not and was not intended to be.
I take heart from what you said Marcus, you seem to believe that we will defeat them.

TNJim (Diary) Saturday, July 25th at 8:56PM EST (link)since Obama is a liberal, racial politics will always play a part. It’s the nature of the beast. Liberal first, always first. I pray daily that those who have fallen under the Left’s utopian spell will be awakened to what they have wrought in electing this man to serve as our president. Even the newest, flashiest Hollywood celebrities seem to have their expiration dates in due time, and those who follow such man-made wonders tend to have short attention spans and are basically a fickle lot when it comes to following the next new kid on the block, so to speak, and it appears that most who voted for Obama accepted him as celebrity and savior, come to remedy the ills they were long convinced they suffered.
Of course, there are many who occupy the political and educational spheres more strongly committed to the socialist agenda, but I believe with maturity and life experience even those minds who were drilled in an enforced fairness and equality-based system will eventually see those principles are anything but fair and in fact untenable as regards continuing freedoms for themselves, and for all our nation’s citizens.
I take some hope in observing my young adult childrens’ peers who seem to be slowly coming to recognize the contradictions of the Left when encountering the realities of their young lives and a disappointing if not discouraging future they may face under the sort of intrusive and heavy-handed government rule we are witnessing at present.
I pray we are given the opportunity to turn this whole mess around.

pac_NY (Diary) Saturday, July 25th at 5:34PM EST (link)since it appears the task ahead to mitigate and even to reverse any further damage perpetrated by this administration upon us, is for the those on the Left in America to realize and believe we do have a God-given right to our freedom, and that our government regardless of how many supporters to the contrary, was never intended to impose it’s will upon the citizens of this country.

aesthete (Diary) Saturday, July 25th at 6:15PM EST (link)I’ve been so disappointed by Pres. Obama’s insistence on living in a racial world. As a person who should (according to Obama and his ilk) be on the receiving end of discrimination, I have nothing but praise for how Americans, on the whole, treat those of a different color as true equals, and don’t patronize or diminish their accomplishments according to one’s race. This diary definitely captured my sentiments on the President’s unwillingness to be a part of the post-racial mosaic that America has been for some time. Definitely recommended.

Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Saturday, July 25th at 8:35PM EST (link)I always personally felt that making Dr. King’s “dream” real did not require considering race as a primal factor. Quite conversely, equality would truly be realized when it was not a consideration or factor at all. Call me an idealist, but that is how I have lived my life to this day.
Your statement above is perfect and put a lump in my throat. I am so disappointed with Mr. Obama’s posture and his very revealing proclivities on this issue. What a terrible missed opportunity this is to finally move our country beyond the few remaining voices of divisiveness.

Hey, thanks, Marcus
aesthete (Diary) Sunday, July 26th at 2:29AM EST (link)Funny thing is, my comment started off more as an off-hand, write-it-in-under-a-minute breezer of the “I can’t believe he did that” variety, but when I went back and read my comment, I realized that that really is the essence of my dislike for the president’s views on race; that, by his saying that racism is a huge problem in the US, he isn’t attacking an abstract group of people, but large swathes of the population that I interact with every day. That greatly offends me. Having lived in Europe and the Pacific islands for most of my life (and having travelled to most of the continents), it’s incredible to see how ethnic rivalries can divide people, and the extent to which our nation has been able to heal racial wounds and forge new partnerships with groups that previously had nothing in common with each other is nothing short of a miracle–one that has, at best, been shoddily imitated in other countries I’ve lived in and travelled to. So to see a president so blase towards this remarkable fact of American life, and so willing to assume that nothing is remarkable about America’s race relations, saddens me. To see a political party unwilling to forgive his own country for sins long since past in exchange for political power, and so intent on haranguing us for crimes that we didn’t commit, grieves me.
To make the tragedy complete, the Democrats, in their rush to capitalize on their brand of minority advocacy, take the unique experiences and cultures of the various constituent groups under their wing (Hispanics, the African-American culture, etc.) and twist them to the extent that the only features of these groups distinguishable from the general population are their advocacy of Marxism and their crime rate, rather than their work ethic, their family values, or simply their cultural traditions.
The Republicans aren’t fantastic: their “race relations” are fraught with silly mistakes and general, sweeping assumptions about minorities and their interests that come off as heavy-handed. But one thing I’ve always respected about conservatives is that, in general, when you get an accolade from one, you’ve earned it,, and when they talk about Americans, they do so knowing what a miracle it is that we have a country so willing to make room for other groups to become a part of the American saga.

Very sobering assessment aesthete
Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Sunday, July 26th at 8:15AM EST (link)You captured the exact essence of the issue. It is about political philosophy and accompanying inclinations.
Whereas modern liberals allow issues to drive their philosophy, a conservatives approach uses the converse. That is, when a conservative writes “All men are created equal” they use that principal as a starting point. There is no equivocation or dissembling.
Liberal’s on the other hand attempt to examine the underlying groups and “define” *who* is equal and why they should be. That leads to a fruitless pursuit which seeks perfection vis a vis any means necessary. The process becomes corrupt when it is used as part of an electoral strategy which implies necessary interdependence (e.g. you need US to make you equal). It becomes a kabuki dance of give and take in order keep the dependency going- like a drug addiction. It is bound to fail and it will.
Indeed, Republican’s have not been perfect. But I would agree (as I believe you implied), it is due to a drift away from conservative principals. Republicans as a group have just tried too hard and therefore as a consequence stumbled. If they would just learn to lead with their philosophy, I believe their approach would be seen as the genuine, respectful effort it truly represents.
“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. Yep
aesthete (Diary) Sunday, July 26th at 11:09AM EST (link)That pretty much sums it up with me. The Republicans certainly didn’t originate as a party by being shy about the race issue

"ghetto economics" vs. "spoiled brat economics"
Bioinformaticus_Maximus (Diary) Sunday, July 26th at 5:32PM EST (link)I humbly suggest the term “spoiled brat economics” (from Warren Farrell) instead of “ghetto economics”. Basically the idea is the same, “I want what the rich kid down the street has but I don’t want to have to work for it so hey government, why don’t you just come in and “even the playing field” or even outcomes”?
Regaining control of policy requires rhetoric that appeals to moderates. It need not be moderate in content, it need only make sense to moderates.
Imagine if liberals said “we don’t support the Constitution”. Instead they say “we support a *living” Constitution”. Moderates are fooled, what can I say? I am not suggesting being mendacious, it’s just that with the other side acting like kids, let’s accentuate the difference so that even the apathetic notice a difference in tone.
In theory, theory and practice are the same.
In practice, they are not.

"Spoiled brat economics"
Marcus_Traianus (Diary) Sunday, July 26th at 8:32PM EST (link)I would have to agree somewhat with old Warren on that theory.
I would have to respectfully demur on the rhetoric, although I understand your point.
The issue with many Moderates is they let electoral situations drive their decisions. They try to craft solutions and create policies tailored to the parochial problems. The issue with that approach is it lacks leadership, an adherence to principal and will eventually fail.
Essentially, Moderates begin to look very much like the opposition- only weaker and less decisive. You don’t beat someone at their own game- you change the rules and have them play yours.
We need to have moderates who agree on principal with the issues, but perhaps differ with the approach. Intellectual, factual dissension is actually good for the party, debate, creativity and leadership.
All great men have been able to take people with very different skills or ideas, bring out their best qualities and produce wondrous results- like our forefathers. We need to continue to make cohesive, factual, intellectual and sagacious arguments with the people. That type of leadership and articulation will change the political landscape and attitudes because it appeal to the real power in this country- our populace.

Gates' own racism has a history.
TNJim (Diary) Monday, July 27th at 12:41AM EST (link)h/t to Newsbusters:
He gives full cedit to, and only to, affirmative action for his success, then proceeds to rip Clarence Thomas, calling him hypocritical, and Newt Gingrich and the contract for America, saying the latter would “set up barriers so that no more of you all could get in” referring to white women and black people entering the middle class.
This guy’s had a racial chip on his shoulder for a long time. No wonder Obama was friends with this guy. Doesn’t he sound just a little like Jeremiah Wright? HotAirPundit, which Newsbusters h/t’d for their article thinks so, too.
I call that a valid assessment.
It's all so clear to me now...
Britcom (Diary) Monday, July 27th at 7:30AM EST (link)There is only one race, and the word ‘racism’ only applies if it affects that one race.
Guys like Gates and Wright are all about preaching that those who don’t belong to their race are not members of any human race, but are merely zombies that exist to oppose their path to power and dominance.
The first step to negotiating a peace with an opponent is to mutually agree that each other has a right to exist and a right to equal treatment. This video shows that Gates doesn’t want an end to racism, or equality for all. On the contrary, he aspires to obtain his own master race status.
After all of this time and effort to build equal rights, we find that “equal” is not near enough for guys like Gates. Very revealing, and at the same time very disturbing. What is a man with this bigoted philosophy doing teaching American youth at one of our most prestigious Universities? Ah, but he has already answered my question hasn’t he. Here we have another example of a failed Democrat policy exploding in our faces.
