In an effort to find Republicans wavering on the so-called “Stimulus” package, Democrats and the Obama Administration have commenced an all out blitz. It appears they are beating the bushes, whips in hand, to ensure those who would betray responsible economic policy line up and vote for the $900 billion government pork package.
“
Administration officials are hopeful that the goodwill and political capital Obama currently enjoys will win them at least some Republican votes on the bill, expected on the House floor Wednesday, and are launching an all-out lobbying blitz to pick them off.In addition to the president’s mid-day visit, chief of staff Rahm Emanuel hosted a group of congressional Republicans at the White House Tuesday night.”
We should not provide shelter or a hiding place for any defectors and some Republicans are setting the judicious, prudent tone;
“”The Democrat bill won’t stimulate anything but more government and more debt,” Representative Mike Pence of Indiana, chairman of the Republican conference, said Tuesday. “The slow and wasteful spending in the House Democrat bill is a disservice to millions of Americans who want to see this Congress take immediate action to get this economy moving again.”
This has not stopped the intense effort to find tergiversates and others cowed by the effort to reward Democrat political support groups with our money. It has also turned some Republican lobbyists to betray their own party;
“If you can just get some intel on 4-5 of the members and report it back to me, I will try to aggregate the information and get it back to the [White House] and House [Democratic] leadership,” wrote Ralph Hellman in an e-mail Tuesday morning to fellow lobbyists, listing those House Republicans Obama considers in play. Hellman is lobbying in support of the stimulus package for technology companies, but Obama officials say he’s not working with the White House.Hellman, a former top aide to former Speaker Dennis Hastert, noted in the message that the Republican target list consisted of those who recently voted with Democrats on extending the SCHIP program. Privately, White House aides are playing less nice, warning Republicans what is at stake.
It is shameful that such creatures still exist amongst us as we try to rebuild this party and our country. One can only hope the road back to victory is paved over their ignominious carcasses. They should be exposed on these pages and forever banned from any leadership position.

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson
That was a good test for my new bifocals!
